I have been banging on about this for years. Have an underpin by all means but make the much larger slice of the cake based on squad selection and playing in matches. The centrally contracted players are being protected far too much but then, even with the so called handcuffs of a central contract, allowed to decide if they want to go off and play franchise cricket.Leuth said:When do we realise central contracts are doing more harm than good1 -
Embarrassing. There was good analysis on 5 Live cricket last Monday, and as was noted they spent 45 minutes of the 60 minute programme talking about the women, which shows how much things have changed. They now have much better resources and money, and with that comes accountability.
They're correctly now full professional athletes like the men, have to train and life lifestyles accordingly, and be prepared to take the criticism the men would get if performances are way off acceptable levels.0 -

The central contracts for Australian women have gone up a lot since 2009 and I believe I saw 140 thousand dollars for their elite players today on TNT.
No idea the amount the English Women receive but I can see it could make them too comfortable and this has been a whitewash of a tour and 'mind the gap' as if they want bigger crowds for the Ashes tours then it needs to be competitive for female cricketers.
The problem for the English women is if you don't have central contracts going from amateur to professional then can they get enough sponsorship to bridge the gap.
