I’m pretty sure they’ll be more outs than ins and we won’t be paying any fees.
There will be only two max coming in the Notts Co kid will be a six figure sum I believe he may be out of contract in the summer so may get him for around 300/400,000.

By Notts County you mean the 27 year old 😂
  • I had a ramble about it on the Charlton podcast, Charlton Chronicles, the one thing I don't want to see is us signing championship players. Unless it's a loan who is hungry to break into the team to be acknowledged by his parent club.

Whenever we sign these championship rejects, they usually fail to deliver. All our best business in league1 recently, has mainly been picking up standout players for a cheap fee from clubs around us or below.

Alfie May, CBT, the snake, Lloyd Jones, Ricky Holmes, Dobson.

I don't know what these scouts and recruitment specialists are paid to do, but I question their experience and football knowledge. Cause if we have one of the highest budgets in the league, and we can't identify the best players in this league then we have some serious issues.

Far too much cash splunked on has beens and players who don't have the character to play for this club.
And yet signing Championship rejects seems to be Andy Scott’s only strategy, leading to two of the most disappointing seasons in our recent history.
Scott does not chose the players we sign thars 100% down to Jones now
Utter rubbish. If you’re right this SMT have offloaded all accountability onto Jones. That is extremely weak leadership and smacks of self preservation above success of the club. That is so damaging, taking big salaries but having no accountability. Shameful!
You was told when Jones joined he wanted the title of manager not head coach... He wanted full say who joined and who left the club..... He is in charge of recruitment the players we sign and the players we release or sell.….. Scott and Rodwell do the talking to the player agent and club concerning transfer fee, contracts, agent fees and signing on fees, bonuses etc
Nope, only you have peddled this set up. So you are saying that NJ takes training, works on tactics and travels around the country scouting players, while two senior, well paid directors sit behind a desk doing the same job, negotiating with players agents. I think you’ve been spun a fat one there. It may have come direct from them but are they telling the truth? Ahadme might have been sanctioned by NJ but he has all the hallmarks of a Scott signing (a disaster).

He sounds like a Ricky Holmes type of signing, hopefully!

The way we're playing at the moment Crowley could work in the same role as Berry. Berry has had a lot of space to pick passes since we changed our shape instead of just being expected to pop up on the end of every cutback and loose ball outside the opposition box and that would suit Crowley. The one concern I do have though is a fair few of the goals we've conceded from outside the box this season have had Berry making a fairly half-hearted attempt at closing down the player shooting. Berry is meant to be a decent combination of a creative player with determination and an engine to let him help out defensively and we still struggle there, if Crowley comes in and offers similar or less I'd worry a little on turnovers

As much as I sympathise with the Reading situation (cnunt of an owner) I really think we should be targeting them. Lewis Whing, Charlie Savage and Harvey Knibbs would be upgrades on anything we have at the moment. Also like the look of Tyler Bingham, but suspect he is heading to the Championship.

And £400k for an out of contract L2 player. Apart from that …

I’ve been suggesting for weeks that we’ll only plug gaps with loans unless a bargain crops up. Having said that I’ll stick with just two loans incoming

Feels like a Collins type rumour, heavily linked before he signs for someone else because he was too expensive
I know, it’s the name of the game, but I hate getting our hopes up for a player, when all it means is we’re being used by their agent to get a move, I keep falling for it, rather  than reading between the lines.
But its a rumour ... dont care if it happens right now, we have 19 pages on the rumour thread and finally we have a rumour  :cold_sweat:

    Hopefully not a Jack Payne…

I’ve become really sceptical about our signings, probably because of the conveyor belt of averageness we’ve signed over the years,

We sign a "highly rated" player for £600k. A year later they're being loaned out after they flop.

Peterborough sign a "highly rated" player for £600k. 18 months later he's sold to Brentford for £5m plus a 20% sell on clause.

Jones is talking about the right back position where we are very short. I know he sees the lad in training but I don’t understand why Asiimwe has been frozen out of the squad, particularly as we declined to extend his loan at Hartlepool, where he was getting game time. Jones has also said that Kayne Ramsey is not too far away (maybe back in February ?).

The key position is surely a creative midfield player. Berry did well yesterday but he is not the fittest and has largely been a disappointment.

The absolute priority, however, must be to extend Lloyd Jones’ contract. Scott needs to get his finger out. We can’t keep losing our best players every year or all hope of progressing back to the Championship will be lost.

It would be so us if just as we start to get hopeful this season we see Leaburn, Jones and Small exit in January!!! And then listen to the SMT tell us that the replacements we have lined up strengthen us 😂

I wouldn’t put it past them, just like CBT, Dobson and May. We’re be told it’s to invest in the team and we’ll end up buying another donkey from Ipswich.

Small is a more attractive proposition to buy than he was 3 weeks ago but staying is also more attractive to him now he has game time. Think he could choose either way

A LCB and a keeper is a must. Anything else is a bonus for me!

Much might depend on where he has options of going.

Less fussed about a keeper in Jan as we will end up overpaying. AMB/Mannion should do until the summer when more options will be available

    Should play transfer thread bingo.
    Will start with two...
We won't get good signings or value in Jan
Sell one of our players but get him back on loan :)

My mate is a (insert club name) fan and says he's good

Their fans on twitter say he's crap.

It's 2 January and Burton have signed 8 players already; why are our lot doing nothing?

Good we've signed a player in that position but we need a striker, that should have been the priority.

Signing a (insert position) means (insert current player in that position) is as good as sold.

Need some wide players who can stretch play, like CBT used to do and T Campbell did well at yesterday.

Agree with this, outside of TC and Small we have very limited pacey attacking options. Need to sign at least one more as an option out wide right and as rotation for TC/Small.

    sign some wide players, tick
    NJ doesn't use wingers...
  • Well that was a great 9 minute spell, imagine what he can do over 90! But seriously, he looks very tasty  :)

I quickly googled his market value and 3 came up straight away....... £300-500k, £650k and £750k........ so maybe we'll start at £250k and they'll counter with £800k......?

    Here's hoping.....
