MOM today, an amazing goal that second one, managed to miss the first goal.
What a win, onwards and upwards from here.

He looks so much like his mum - Tracey (and Carl) must be so proud of him.

Probably a slightly false position, but who’d have thought we’d be this close to the playoffs after we lost to Crawley.
Much improved over the last six games, helped by the return of Jones, but on top of the improved results we’re also starting to play a bit of football, with Docherty getting more involved, and with Miles and Tupac looking much more of a threat. If only the latter had headed the ball over the advancing keeper we wouldn’t have had such a nail biting finale!
  • Excellent result. That’s the Leaburn I’ve been waiting to see, hopefully he can keep it going.  Nervy last 10 minutes. It looked like a couple of players lost their composure, especially Small, and were just giving the ball away rather than maintaining possession, but he had a really good game up to then, and he is still young.

Let’s hope they can keep this up at Crawley.

Terrific patient team performance and two great goals by leaburn. How some people want him to leave is beyond me.

Can't remember the last time we won two home games back to back. And typical couldn't make either due to transport and work commitments but managed to watch on a stream.

    Keep it going 7th now.
  • Great result and performance. Sublime finish from Leaburn.

Only caught the second half but looked like solid performances from all, though I thought AMB could have done better with their goal. Wycombe really didn't look like scoring in the second half at least and we could have had a couple more.

Some odd decisions from the ref towards the end of the game, especially the Lloyd Jones "foul". I was impressed with how we kept the press going right til the end of the game.

We have good fixtures coming up - let's keep the momentum up and we really could find ourselves in the play-offs, which seemed improbable a couple of weeks ago.

I thought that was a decent performance against a good league 1 side. You cant see why they are onthe top 3. But we kept them at bay well in the first half and the goal was well deserved.
We started the second half just as well and that2nd goal was top notch.
But then the subs. They had better quality on the bench than us. That ment they dominated the last twenty mins so we'll done to the back 4 conceding one goal was a good show.
Over  all an 8 of 10 for that

72 points to play for - 14 points catch-up is not impossible.

    Nurse! NURSE!
Haha you don’t need the nurse Bob ! It is very possible that we can make those points up imo. We just need to stop dropping points against teams we should beat. We all thought this squad was good enough that’s why there was the meltdown watching the hoofball. Stockport will drop off now I think and I can’t see Wrexham maintaining their form all season
  • It's taken 3 months, but after the bright August and erratic autumn, we finally have a way of playing that suits our players and is getting results.

3 wins in 9 days and now we're looking upwards, and incidentally become a much more attractive proposition in the January window.

I thought NJ should have rotated more, but am happy to acknowledge that keeping a consistent team has worked. I still would question the bench a bit, Kanu would have been the perfect sub today.

Another very solid defensive display, and two bits of quality from Miles. Unnecessarily edgy at the end, when we needed to keep the ball better, but it's a young team.
  • Very good performance today. Think we need reinforcements to make play offs.

Two good finishes by Leaburn. Second one is very tough for a tall player to get ball out of feet quickly but was a very composed finish. Showed real class. Unusual to see a 6,6 player who is so athletically built and has an element of abiity on the ball. He is a long way from a finished article. Almost every part of his game can be improved but the potential is huge for a guy with his physique and athleticism.

Defence looked very well organised and we look so hard to break down at the moment. On the ball, still lacking quality in open play for the most part but TC's pace gives us an out and Small adding to the attack.

On a side note, that Kone looks the real deal. Think he'll be playing in Premier League within a couple of years. He's a cut above strikers I've seen in this division.

Fair play to the players and to NJ, I did not see this run of form coming a few weeks ago so credit where its due.

Rather excitingly its happened just before the transfer window and with Ramsay to come back into the equation too so there's real potential to capitalise on the mini resurgence if cards are played well.

Wycombe arrived at the Valley this festive season having only lost one on the road all campaign, full of confidence and sitting second in the table. But Charlton have been performing well over the holiday period themselves, starting with the same eleven that have won back-to-back victories. The two sides pushed and pulled for the first half hour with Charlton having the better of the opportunities and Wycombe looking organised but contained. Luke Berry had a couple of chances in that period, one of which he should have done better with, but it was Miles Leaburn who picked up where he left off to open the scoring. Another Josh Edward’s long throw caused issues and Leaburn stuck his leg out past his man to drive in his first goal of the afternoon on forty six minutes to take the Addicks into the lead going into halftime.

The second half started with the Addicks building in confidence. On fifty-two minutes Leaburn struck again as he broke free into the Wycombe half and, seeing the keeper in no-man’s land, skillfully lobbed the ball over and down into the back of the net to put Charlton two to the good.

Charlton were in complete control and Wycombe looked devoid of ideas. Leaburn, tired and on a yellow, was taken off for Ahadme, with Karoy Anderson also coming on to refresh the centre of the pitch. Wycombe had made quite a few changes themselves at that point looking for a bit of inspiration. That came from Richard Kone, Wycombe’s top scorer, who found himself with space in the box and curled a shot past Maynard-Brewer to set up a tense final fifteen minutes. In hindsight, Wanderer’s supporters will surely be asking why he had been rested. While Wycombe gained confidence from the goal, it proved only a consolation as Charlton were determined to see out the good performance with all three points.

We’ve returned to being well organised at the back and difficult to beat. And we’re now scoring more freely. The squad should have a bit of confidence going into the back end of the season, poised to make a playoff push. Three wins on the bounce take us up into seventh place in the table, up from eleventh before kickoff. So, all in all, the Addicks are finally pointed in the right direction. Will we be in a position to strengthen in January to ensure things stay that way?

    Charlton 2 Wycombe 1

    Over to you.
I’m I the only one that thought it was 0-0 at half time and Leaburns first goal was at the start of the second half?

Play offs are a poss but I reckon 14 wins out of 24 will be needed.

However another 10 points should see us safe🤣

  • Ok I will take the credit for today 😃

Great Charlton performance, at last - Leaburn’s 2nd a real beauty of a goal
  • Jones and Mitchell immense in a very solid defence,  everyone pressed well, work rate exceptional. More chances created by us.  A thoroughly deserved win.

I assume their number 17 was told to do a job on Leaburn, judging from the treatment he meted out.  Glad he ended with a minus two score.

January will still be massively key as we don’t have great sub options to impact a game at the minute. A wide player & an attacking midfielder would be very handy
  • In the match thread I suggested it could be a season defining result. That win has us very much looking up, rather than down. The capability is there to push into the play off places, and if they maintain that level of performance that will happen.

Well I for one got no enjoyment out of that performance whatsoev....

    😉

We battled to a stalemate in the first half but had the best chance in Berry's shot, then in the second half we came out the traps absolutely racing, and 2 very different but both fantastic goals from Miles Leeeeeaaaaaabbbbbbuuuuuuuurrrrrnnnnnnn put us into an unlikely but deserved 2 nil lead. A late surge from them and a decent turn and shot got them a goal back, but despite their (and the refs) best efforts late on they couldn't break us down, coupled with some great high pressing and harrying even late in the second half, we stood relatively firm and got the win. 5 unbeaten, 3 wins on the spin, a settled side and suddenly we have an outside chance of the playoffs

I hate Wycombe so was extra pleased with the result. Their home strip looks like a rugby kit and they favour the dark arts. Fair play to the lads they made them look ordinary not a top 2 team on a ridiculous unbeaten run

Best win of the season as we used the width of the pitch and beat a team that hadn't lost for 4 months 😀

I wonder if Kone was on the bench as he has a Championship move lined up next week?
We saw his quality when he came on.

Leaburn at last looked back to his best after his stop start career and our defensive work by every player out of possession was so much better than normal. Great to see Miles fired up and scoring a brace.
Leaburn went from being a 200k striker to a 2 Million pound striker in 15 minutes. 😂 You had to be on the match thread to appreciate that comment.

The much criticised Berry and Docherty both worked so hard today. Berry should've scored at least one today but at least he keeps getting into goal scoring positions.

Not ideal having Small on the right but he can get pass defenders on the outside even if the ball in from his right foot will be erratic, plus he can cut in and have shots at goal with his left foot.

Great team performance and we had everyone working so well off the ball and I was delighted to be proved wrong with the score  but then I didn't realize that Richard Kone was on the bench with Ex Millwall man Fred.

Still confused why it took Nathan Jones so long to work out you need to use width as well as not playing Leaburn, Ahadme and Godden together which he did on two occasions.
Better late than never and at least he worked it out before the new year.
