Just 1 word since pre season Goalscorer!
Have I stumbled onto the cryptic crossword thread?
I thought it was an anagram, but I can't fit 'shite team' in so I'm stuck.
  • I'd like a pound for every time Nathan mentions the 'lack of quality in the final third' in his post match interviews,
  • Remember Jones brought in Docherty, Berry and Campbell on loan saying he knew their quality and how they improve the team. None started but played ill equipped Anderson, Small and T Campbell, proving just how good our recruitment has been.

Mansfield seemed to have more method in their play than us. Luckily they missed at least three sitters in the first half, with Anderson fluffing our big chance. I think we miss Dobbo controlling our midfield. Better second half but far from great. I am puzzled that Coventry and Taylor are unable to create clear cut chances. Plus, most of Taylor's set pieces were poor today. The referee was even more dire than the action.

'Dobbo' was about the one thing we didn't miss. What we miss is creative attacking play, effective wingplay, effective finishing, hold up play, movement when a midfielder is on the ball and full back support. We didn't miss defensive midfielders who distribute calmly - we had two on for most of the game
We are missing him considering his replacement isn't as good as him defensively or on the front foot, mainly cos he's constantly slowing it down by passing backwards.

Another 2 points dropped against a poor Mansfield team. A better second half but their keeper had an easy afternoon as we barely threatened their goal

3 wins in the last 16 league games, less than a goal a game. Midtable football once again

    I'm just so bored.

I've never been one for managers returning but I'd love to see Jacko in there with Pearce as his number two. Two blokes that get our club and I'm certain would get us playing. Jones talks absolute tosh, best pressing team in the league who gives a monkeys if we aren't winning?
  • Torn between sticking with him giving him another window or having to go through another complete reset. Mess
  • The optimist in me says those periods of decent play show that they CAN play decent, we just have to question why they aren't so often.

As long as we're bumping along with enough to stay mid-table and keep us out of trouble, Jones at least gets the rest of the year to see if anything in January can turn it around.  Ditching yet another manager when we are mid table just seems unrealistic about what anybody else would achieve this year.

Anderson very involved, we missed his energy when he went off. MOTM..

L Jones makes a big difference at the back

Conor should be renamed Yrtnevoc as he nearly always only goes backwards.

Team continues to lack cohesion, precision and pattern of play.

N Jones sees himself as a motivator and bases his whole approach, it seems, on that.

What he isn't is a coach and we badly miss a Paul Hart, a Chris Cohen or similar to get the most out of what we have.

Mansfield were nothing special but moved well and passed the ball and had good chances to scores that they skyed.  Travelling fans came in numbers and made some noise as might be expected from a club on the up and in its highest league position in decades.

In real time it looked a locked on penalty but you can't rely on those being given to win games

Moved from the Player Marks thread
I’m always an avid reader of this thread and I thought Muttley’s comment was a classic when he described the refs performance

……. helped ruin the game when it didn’t really need his help.

Which is the penalty on Leaburn that is obvious? The first where they were wrestling each other (I'd say about evenly, not a stinking decision) or the second on the edge of the box that happened off the ball? DGMW the ref had an absolute howler anyway

There’s a lack of quality in the final third because he let the one player who had bloody quality in the final third go.
    This x 100.

This team really misses someone like Kishishev. From a long way back I know, but someone who can stop and break up teams attacks, be not afraid to get on the ball and make things happen going forrward.

Probably going to be replaced by a Goal a Month compilation in May...

I'll add - Leaburn didn't utter a peep after the first one but was screaming at the ref after the second

Oshilaja wrestled Leaburn to the ground - not sure what sport I was watching. Ref let so much go...

The commentator was adamant that it was a clear penalty. Unfortunately, there’s no commentary on these highlights. Oh, and they edited out Oshi wrestling Miles to the ground.

  • Agree with everyone re boring shit football tactics etc,BUT I’m hoping that NJ can see /realise that his recruitment was not very good and try’s to address that in January cause I don’t want another change and it all starts again,
if we get any players in where we so obviously need them that will in my book give NJ more time, if not bye bye.
  • Not read the full thread but if we are questioning the officials over the ‘penalty’ then we should be looking more closely at the two tackles where it looked like the Mansfield player(s) stopped the attacking Charlton player(s) by putting their arms around the neck of the charlton player and pulling them back. The first time it happened it got a free kick and a yellow, the second time it got nothing. Tackles like that should be straight reds. The club should take a good look at both those tackles and if they were what I thought they looked like to me then they should be asking the FA/EFL to investigate.

I think the Mansfield players worked out they could get away with pretty much anything...

It wasn’t really an even wrestling contest, as Oshi was trying to stop Leaburn getting anywhere near the ball and instigated all contact. If Miles had a hand in Oshi it was to break free. I guarantee Oshi couldn’t believe he got away with it.
Not that it makes a real difference.
Our only hope is that somehow we’re trying to play football again.

Problem was that Leaburn kept throwing himself to the ground, probably a lack of fitness and/or confidence, and when the wrestle came the ref just thought it was more of the same.

All in all, another afternoon of utter garbage, if Mansfield had anyone who could shoot we would have lost.
