    Oshilaja wrestled Leaburn to the ground - not sure what sport I was watching. Ref let so much go...

    It happened right in front of the family area.  Leaburn started the wrestling going and then Oshilaja finished it.  Should have been a free kick to Mansfield for the first offence.  It was very clear.  The 3 next to me all agreed.

    I thought Anderson played well / much better yesterday.  He still gave the ball away too much and with some pretty poor passing at times but his energy, strength and commitment meant he broke up play a lot.  If the others in this team played with his heart (and Daniel Kanu's too), we would be a better team for it.

    Amazing to think Docherty, Ahadme, Campbell, Berry, Edwards and Mannion all on the bench and Hylton and Potts don't even make the squad... All Jones summer signings and cumulatively a lot of money spent there.  What a poor transfer window (again).

    We have to move on Gillesphy, he was bullied all afternoon, again. A very poor signing.

    The first half was an embarrassment, as the titans of Mansfield thoroughly outplayed us and should have gone in at half time a couple of goals to the good.

    The second half saw a better performance from Charlton with Leaburn looking a bit more like his old self, Anderson apparently learning to control the ball, and Campbell moved forward where he can do damage to the opposition (never, ever again do I want to see him at wing back; the lad hasn't got a defensive cell in his body).

    The fact that we have such a poor quality team with zero attacking guile or creativity is a given, so the least I expect from my team is 100% effort. I felt we at least got that in the second half.

    Gillesphey was a disinterested observer. Godden and Kanu both shocking. It was as if Jones had put Bill and Ben the flowerpot men up front together. Absolutely no bodily co-ordination. (apologies to anyone under 60 who will wonder wtf I'm on about. Google them.).

    Although it was another poor window but let’s have some perspective

    Mannion - first game back after injury
    edwards - first time he hasn’t started when fit
    potts - also recovering from injury
    hylton - never signed to be first team

    Docherty, berry and ahadme were meant to be cheat modes at this level. More distant recent signings like Edun and Taylor were supposed to strengthen us. I reckon the above would have all gone elsewhere and done well. I’m not scouting is the problem, there might be something overly wrong with the coaching set up/behind the scenes for us to keep signing good players on paper who don’t perform here!

    Tyreece also gave everything, but again lacked the finishing touch that might make a difference. 
    Towards the end of the first half it was getting toxic again, and you could see the players’ heads going down; but fair play to them for the second half.
    Perhaps with more quality on the pitch we’d be winning games like this easily. 
    An appalling refereeing display by the way. There were three shouts for penalties which, on another day, might have resulted in one being given.

    He is seriously deluded. Nice one Nath, a team we can all be proud of. We're brave, front-footed and going after teams.

    How & why is our pitch "difficult" to play on ?  It was relaid in the summer & is 50% artificial. We haven't even had frost, ice or snow on it yet & there is no mud to be seen.  
    All pitches are difficult to play on when you don’t know how to pass the ball.
    He does the interview out of obligation.  It’s not a voluntary announcement.

    I don't mind people who don't support Charlton watching (as the Valley would look even more dead) but it was crazy for me. 

    Our support is so low atm. It made me wonder how many people in the stadium are actually a Charlton fan, and not there just for something to do. 

    Again, I'm not against it, just shows how poorly supported we are currently that we are relying on freebies etc to fill seats.

    I haven't been a Charlton fan for years. I'm a Charlton Life fan and only go through the charade of going to matches just to save face on here.

    There seemed to be quite a lot of Germans there yesterday too. I think we’re quite a popular option for the ground hoppers due convenience factors and that’s fine by me, although I would imagine after coming once not many will be back. Awful football and a not-exactly riveting match day experience in and around the stadium for the tourists. 

    It definitely feels like the actual number of Charlton fans in the stadium is the worst it’s ever been for a quarter of a century.

    I have a mate who I brought to watch us play against Everton in the prem, and it was a 0-0 total borefest. For 20 years whenever we've talked about Charlton he's moaned about how boring that game was. 

    Finally I managed to talk him to coming to another game... Yesterday's game. FFS... I think that was even more boring than Everton.

    Arguably the most interesting thing that happened was a strange incident in the NW. An old guy took exception to a younger fan singing the "We've lost the ball" song and took a swing at him. I thought the younger fan handled himself well and didn't retaliate, but was obviously upset. The old guys mates moved him away but then kept moaning at the younger fan for making a big deal about it.

    So do I. I think the ref decided it was 50-50 but he should have given a free-kick to Mansfield.

    A ton of work to do, but at least the Crazy Gang long ball tactics have reduced and now we are mixing up playing it on the floor and long. That said, when we did try to play through the thirds, TC was often robbed of the ball and the likes of TT and KA gave the ball away. 

    If we can improve the creativity and conversion rate like we have improved our defensive record, we will be far more effective, but as said, a ton of work to do on that.

    Boring game. Boring Style. Boring Tactics.

    Jones gets the combinations wrong.

    For example, Taylor and Coventry are both too similar to play together. IMO opinion we looked better when Taylor went off. Taylor plays the odd nice pass, but can't tackle and is not a good CDM. Coventry is much better footballer, reads the game well, ticks us over, and wins the ball with ease. Wasted playing the box to box role. There was a moment (when Taylor went off) where Coventry received the ball and played it first time out wide to Mitchell who then played it to TC, beating their press with one pass from Coventry. Coventry yes, passes the ball sideways/backwards a lot, but that is more due to the lack of movement around him. Like Dobbo before him, he is our only good midfielder playing with other midfielders that do not want to get on the ball.

    Can't believe some of the low marks for TC, he was our only outlet and created two good chances. Wasted as a Wing Back. If only the manager would play him as a Left Winger.
     
    Macca is an absolute liability, on multiple occasions he's out of position, gives the ball away and loses his man.

    Karoy can press and has great energy, but is currently miscast playing as our most advanced midfielder. He's a box to box player but not a creative one. There is a player in there, but should not be a regular at this stage. An indictment on the poor recruitment of Doc, Berry and Campbell. The fact we need a goal and neither Doc or Campbell are brought on says everything we need to know about our recruitment.

    Luke Berry was poor again. His legs have gone.

    We are missing Mannion's communication at the back in my opinion. I sit behind the goal and Ash doesn't say a word. Multiple times, Lloyd was expecting Ash to come and claim the ball and the guy doesn't move.

    Feel for Godden and Kanu they are both better playing off a bigger guy. Again, comes down to combinations. (That said, Kanu's touch was awful) It should be Leaburn/Ahadme and Godden/Kanu. 

    A lot to do in January. Do we stick or twist with Jones? That's the first question. I do not believe a manager can build a side in one window, but, the midfield was a major issue last year, and the players he has brought in has not addressed that. Do we trust him with another? I am not sure.

    The effect of bringing Leaburn on at half time to mix it up was that Mansfield dropped back 10 yards. This gave Coventry more space in midfield and instead of passing backwards all the time he started to go forward unchallenged. This is not something that can be relied upon in every game and we desperately need a midfielder who can either find the gaps when passing forward or run with the ball. We do not have either at present.

    I don't disagree but with all due respect Coventry is a defensive, his job is to break up play (which he does very well) and tick us over. He is not a midfielder to drive us up the pitch. He was playing further forward to accommodate Taylor.
