Who was our last proper creative player ? Not thinking about wingers who can twist & turn as that's obvious- JRS and less so CBT. I'm more thinking about a midfielder who can pick a pass, score from a free kick or from 25 yards. Ricky Holmes ?? Don't think Powell's team had one unless you count Kermorgant. I have to say I think Jones’ post match interview is pretty honest and on the money.We’ve been shit for years and yes, most of the style of football has been woeful this season.But perhaps building defensive solidity was the main target when he came in - and that is now to the detriment of any attacking threat.Personally the second half today gave me encouragement that he sees there is another way to play aside from hoofing it. Coventry looked far more composed, as did Jones coming back in. There was definitely a change in tactics second half.I really can’t see who would be any better in the manager hot seat at the moment and I can’t take another ‘fresh start’. We’ve come this far with Jones, I think we stick with him at least over the next couple of games to see if the style of play is more like today’s second half, than the first.15

I'm beyond shocked at the amount of people who thought that was in any way acceptable today. This is below accepting mediocrity, it's abandoning any standards this club has had.

There’s a few like me saying the second half was better than what’s been served up recently and most importantly seemed like a positive change in style.Hopefully that sticks, the players grow in confidence, Lloyd Jones stays fit and we go on a bit of a run.7

Sorry mate but it's so far from acceptable. Mansfield could only dream of having our resources plus they've lost 5/5. Is 15 minutes in the second half reason to be cheerful... What about the other 75?
They should have easily won today and we're on here hopeful because we played well for 15 minutes of a 90 minute game.

Overall, I thought a draw was a fair result between two poor lower mid-table teams, in what was a pretty wretched spectacle. Quality was most certainly not on display, particularly in the final third at both ends.
We were fortunate to be on level terms at half time, which was purely down to Mansfield’s profligacy. They missed two gilt-edged chances, whilst Anderson squandered a very good opportunity when played through by Campbell, with a poor first touch pushing him wide and allowing the goalie to smother his shot. Overall, we had no width or attacking ideas, with Godden and Kanu dominated by Deji and his fellow centre-half, whilst the midfield was static and lacked movement and fluidity. To compound matters, the body language of the team was poor and we barely won a second ball.
We were significantly better in the second half, with Leaburn a big improvement on the Godden and able to cope much better with Mansfield’s physicality. We put them under some real pressure for the first 15 or 20 minutes of the second half but couldn’t make the breakthrough, with Leaburn missing the two best opportunities. The game evened up a bit after that and Burton had a few sniffs, although we still just about had the upper hand, without really looking like breaking the deadlock.
We were opened up on a few occasions defensively, particularly in the first half, where the entire side struggled. The midfield improved after the break, although anyone can see the blend is wrong with three defensive midfielders, who have managed just the one goal between them this season. Up front, only Leaburn made any sort of impact, with both Kanu and Godden having poor games.
The structure and set-up of the team isn’t working, the players are low on confidence and we continue to look nothing like a well-coached side; quite the contrary.
The chances of a top 6 for this Charlton side are zero. No goals and one point from the last two home league games against Crawley and Mansfield speaks volumes - as does 3 league wins in the last 16 games. Given the direction of travel, the immediate priority must be to put more distance between us and the bottom 4 to avoid being sucked into a relegation dogfight.

An awful game, referee was shit. Not Trevor Kettle or Graham Poll kind of shit just league 1 usual shite, for some reason decided that the foul from Oshilaja on Kanu first half was not a penalty which it 100% was and that set his standard for inconsistency and general crapness.
Not that he excuses how bad that was to watch. I have nonidea again what we are about or what our purpose was. Mansfield were poor also and there to be beaten convincingly. They did work hard however and I cant fault the workrate of our players. The quality and decision-makong, yes both awful but they all put a shift in which is what I want to see before anything else so I guess I should be happy.

We just about clung on to 0-0 at half time, not because we were good, but because Mansfield inexplicably ballooned the ball into the sky when scoring was an easier option.
How many times did the phrase 'heavy touch' come up with reference to our players inability to control the ball - one of the basics in football?
Recruitment is a massive fail now - this season has confirmed how poor we are at building a squad. And a shout out to Nathan for closing the door on PL loans, thus shutting off a valuable option to get skillful players in.
Overall, that was the game most of uscexpected, and was duly served up. And the better second half does not detract from the fact that we have not once been the better team in the first 45 minutes in the league this season. Not once.12 -

He affected the game yesterday. Defenders were out of their comfort zone against him and this was demonstrated by a penalty Mr Magoo would have seen. I have been critical in recent games of how easy he has been to play against but hope this improvement continues. We certainly need it to.JamesSeed said:

He’s obviously cocked up big time with the players he’s chosen. He obviously can’t say this because the players heads will drop forever. I think I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think the board will be doing the same but will be asking Themselves whether Nathan Jones is the best person to choose who he wants to be in the squad. In their eyes, they probably think they spent a lot of money but unless they get better players in January nothing is going to get any better.0
