No intention of winding anyone up here this is a genuine question asked because I don’t know the answer.

how wide is the skill gap between players in the premiership and league one ? I don’t mean the top premiership players I mean in general.
im asking as we have players currently in our squad that only last season were playing in the premiership yet have so far totally failed to influence any of our games this season it’s not like they are past it etc ! Its very strange
I went with a friend to Arsenal v Liverpool u21s a couple of months ago. The gap in skill and quality compared to the appalling slop served up by most of League One, even at that level, was eye-opening.

Mansfield seemed to have more method in their play than us. Luckily they missed at least three sitters in the first half, with Anderson fluffing our big chance. I think we miss Dobbo controlling our midfield. Better second half but far from great. I am puzzled that Coventry and Taylor are unable to create clear cut chances. Plus, most of Taylor's set pieces were poor today. The referee was even more dire than the action.

'Dobbo' was about the one thing we didn't miss. What we miss is creative attacking play, effective wingplay, effective finishing, hold up play, movement when a midfielder is on the ball and full back support. We didn't miss defensive midfielders who distribute calmly - we had two on for most of the game
Who was our last proper creative player  ? Not thinking about wingers who can twist & turn as that's obvious- JRS and less so CBT.  I'm more thinking about a midfielder who can pick a pass, score from a free kick or from 25 yards. Ricky Holmes ?? Don't think Powell's team had one unless you count Kermorgant. Before that Andy Reid ?.

I mean that was the idea of a few players, Scott Fraser the last among them - just he didn't really do it.

I haven’t seen anyone saying it’s acceptable. There’s a few like me saying the second half was better than what’s been served up recently and most importantly seemed like a positive change in style.
Hopefully that sticks, the players grow in confidence, Lloyd Jones stays fit and we go on a bit of a run.
Sorry mate but it's so far from acceptable. Mansfield could only dream of having our resources plus they've lost 5/5. We made them look good.

Is 15 minutes in the second half reason to be cheerful... What about the other 75?

They should have easily won today and we're on here hopeful because we played well for 15 minutes of a 90 minute game.

I'm beyond shocked at the amount of people who thought that was in any way acceptable today. This is below accepting mediocrity, it's abandoning any standards this club has had.
    Who said it was acceptable?

I thought that was a joke, just seen it’s a genuine quote.
That can't be a quote after today's game, surely?
    It is

Now it’s the pitches fault, nasty pitch. Although you do have to question where close a million quid has gone.

Think another problem though could be the 18 goals scored in 19 league games.

I didn't say anyone said it, I said they clearly thought it. I'm not sure it needs much more explanation if we've read the same thread.

    Down the drain, literally.
  • Went to Panto in York tonight, seems like I missed my regular one but ended up seeing one much better.
  • In Jones we make do and mend.
  • An awful game, referee was shit. Not Trevor Kettle or Graham Poll kind of shit just league 1 usual shite, for some reason decided that the foul from Oshilaja on Kanu first half was not a penalty which it 100% was and that set his standard for inconsistency and general crapness.

Not that he excuses how bad that was to watch. I have nonidea again what we are about or what our purpose was. Mansfield were poor also and there to be beaten convincingly. They did work hard however and I cant fault the workrate of our players. The quality and decision-makong, yes both awful but they all put a shift in which is what I want to see before anything else so I guess I should be happy.

  • Just a reminder - a 14,000 crowd would mean the home stands were over 50% occupied. Looked more like 30% to me.
Gosh. I must confess, I have no more fucks to give.
  • I don't understand all the doom & gloom on here.

Just this week, Jones said that we could be in the top 6 by the new year.  :|
He's not wrong. 2 games undefeated. 2 clean sheets.

I keep being told that Championships are built on clean sheets so I'm expecting top 2 by May.
Yes , Alfie May will be top two
  • Just 1 word since pre season Goalscorer!
  • Poor. Strikers starved of service. Wing backs too deep. Midfield non existent most of the time. Very poor.

Have I stumbled onto the cryptic crossword thread?
  • He’s obviously cocked up big time with the players he’s chosen. He obviously can’t say this because the players heads will drop forever. I think I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think the board will be doing the same but will be asking Themselves whether Nathan Jones is the best person to choose who he wants to be in the squad. In their eyes, they probably think they spent a lot of money but unless they get better players in January nothing is going to get any better.
