  • I just assumed he was injured.
  • He's already on 3 yellow cards and the last 2 were particularly soft (can't remember his first) so maybe his absence was a disciplinary matter.
  • Strange that he wasn’t even on the bench.
For balance I think, with Potts being left footed.
  • Did I "laud" him or did I give him "credit", quite different things in my mind.
I didn’t say you did - my criticism was aimed at Jones , not you .
  • True but he also spent a lot of it as far as I am concerned by not wanting Alfie May and replacing him with the less than prolific goalscorer Ahadme.
And he's been getting out of jail with good results making the hoof ball more acceptable.

    Might as well play 4-2-4

  • are we really that surprised that Jones is somewhat erratic based on his previous at stoke and Southampton? We have to live with the fact that he does everything his way, every time for good or bad.
  • Maybe Mitchell has been playing too much table tennis?

the funny thing is, he wanted us to play more football. We literally played zero football again yesterday
I think Jones will realise before long that results matter far more than how you play your football at this level. Better to get back to grinding out wins than trying to play teams off the park whilst they ground out wins against us.
  • Yep. A very bizarre decision leaving out Mitchell for REG. Could see that within 10 minutes.
NJ, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The defence was the one part of our team that looked solid and cohesive.

It’s not like REG is John Stones.  Extraordinarily ridiculous decision .
My initial impression of REG last season was that he looked quite laid back and comfortable on the ball in defensive situations.  But he always passed the ball to his closest teammate.  I thought perhaps he'd had explicit instructions.  Later in the match he attempted a few medium/long passes - they were awful.  He doesn't look comfortable when the opposition allow him to move forward with the ball either.   He didn't improve in later matches and it was the same on Saturday.  He's just a smoother looking A Mitchell.

OK, this one has whooshed me. Can you explain please @Off_it?
  • have he and Jones (Nat) fallen out ? (I imagine that falling out with the 'gaffer' is not difficult)
  • Amazing that people are immediately jumping to the idea there's an interpersonal problem when the reality is NJ probably just made a selection error

TBH, if he doesn’t know that by now, he’s in the wrong job.

I believe Jones went mad at Luton or Stoke and felt they were playing too much table tennis so he banned it.

But to not even be on the bench? After starting the season so well? Seems strange.

(Sorry to jump in here but take an interest in this thread with Mitchell being ex Millwall)
What is your excuse for poking your hooter in the other threads?

    Agree with your post tbf.
  • Old NJ seems an onery kerr!

I think Jones wanted a left footed defender on the bench ie Potts.

Think that was more about Potts than Mitchell, left footed, well known to NJ and could fill in at LB for half an hour if needed

The sub centre back Jones has been picking all season so far has been capable of playing full back as well as centre back (first REG, now Potts).

He’ll be able to cover multiple defensive positions with less players and fill the rest of the bench with five attack minded players to change a game if needed.

Mitchell doesn’t have that in his locker so I can understand why he’s not in the 18 if not in the starting line-up. I’d expect the same to happen to Lloyd Jones.
