Alex Mitchell - gone on a season long loan to Plymouth Argyle (p11)

I just assumed he was injured.0

He's already on 3 yellow cards and the last 2 were particularly soft (can't remember his first) so maybe his absence was a disciplinary matter.0

In the interview aired on Charlton Live, NJ says he swapped Mitchell for REG because of tactical reasons and because he wanted us to play a bit more. No doubt he sees REG as more of a ball-player than Mitchell. I don't think there's anything more to it than that.10

In those 6 games we have had 4 clean sheets and from the 3 goals conceded 2 of those were 25 yards or more out
Makes no sense to make that decision yesterday. It’s no different if one of your strikers had scored 4 goals in the first 6 games and then you bin him off and he’s not even on the bench
I can see the case for giving REG a start after the Cambridge game but not for Mitchell and especially after another star of the midweek game, Taylor, didn't even get on the bench.
No matter how good REG had been why change a successful back five and solid midfield.
Credit to NJ for taking responsibility but I'm still in the dark as to what his thinking was with the back three, the midfield and the forward line changes.
I'm also thinking that NJ has often spoken of preferring a smaller squad as there are fewer players scrabbling for places but we now seem to have a hell of a lot of fit first team players when you include Leaburn, A Campbell and the soon come Dixon as well as "where does he fit in Hylton"?
All managers make mistakes, it's just that the best managers make fewer mistakes than the others, but this seems almost perverse from NJ.0 -

Might as well play 4-2-40 -
If jones wants us to play a bit more he should have signed a midfielder that can play, rather than 3 identical non creative midfielders24

are we really that surprised that Jones is somewhat erratic based on his previous at stoke and Southampton? We have to live with the fact that he does everything his way, every time for good or bad.3

Maybe Mitchell has been playing too much table tennis?0

the funny thing is, he wanted us to play more football. We literally played zero football again yesterday8

Yep. A very bizarre decision leaving out Mitchell for REG. Could see that within 10 minutes.NJ, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The defence was the one part of our team that looked solid and cohesive.3

I feel like there’s more to it than just ‘tactical reasons’, maybe I’m reading too much into it but seems a very bizarre situation.6

have he and Jones (Nat) fallen out ? (I imagine that falling out with the 'gaffer' is not difficult)0

Amazing that people are immediately jumping to the idea there's an interpersonal problem when the reality is NJ probably just made a selection error4

The sub centre back Jones has been picking all season so far has been capable of playing full back as well as centre back (first REG, now Potts). He’ll be able to cover multiple defensive positions with less players and fill the rest of the bench with five attack minded players to change a game if needed.
Mitchell doesn’t have that in his locker so I can understand why he’s not in the 18 if not in the starting line-up. I’d expect the same to happen to Lloyd Jones.3
