thought the same; there is no logical explanation for giving Hylton a playing contract; if his good around the place and can help the forwards, then make him a coach, but as part of the playing staff, barring a massive injury crisis he won't be needed and will just be blocking a young strikers route, Kanu would be much more beneficial for the minutes then Hlyton and also a much better player now (Hylton has not had a decent season in a good 6 years, that a hell of a long time in football)AFKABartram said:Starting to feel a bit jobs for the boys??5 -
Don't get the point in bringing in Hylton even for EFL Trophy or as an Overage player for the U21s like some clubs have. Would rather develop what we've got internally with Kanu,TC,Mbick and Casey.3

Christiano Ronaldo is 39, would you turn him down as well due to his age...it's just a number...🙄1 -
Hylton may have signed but can someone show me where it is confirmed please?0

I think he’s talking about coaching not playingL0rd_M0ntagu3 said:

Ronaldo played in the Euros this summer. Hylton made 4 league appearances for a club who finished a few places above us.eastterrace6168 said:L0rd_M0ntagu3 said:

Makes no sense really. He's scored 4 goals since 2019. If Jones likes him and wants him as a coach.........then sign him as a coach.Scoham said:Don’t get what Hylton’s going to add, barely played for Northampton last season in this league and didn’t score many for them the season before in L2.
Sure Jones will want leaders and good older pros, but we’re not short in that area with Campbell and Potts recently joining Docherty, Lloyd Jones, Gillesphey etc.
Not to mention we now have all these strikers and no one to create anything for them.2 -
I think Jones is a great manager and the club are being run professionally but that’s scraping the barrel.0

With Godden ill, Aneke injured, Leaburn broken done, Kanu on international duty, Ahadme joining the Jehovah witnesses and TC sold to Saudi, Hylton is now our main striker.

Hylton is like Hales without the goals, but its been a while since we had an exponent of the dark arts. Bring it on!0

Can't even mention them in the same breath, like chalk and cheese with or without the goals...Gisappointed said:Hylton is like Hales without the goals, but its been a while since we had an exponent of the dark arts. Bring it on!1 -
It's not officially confirmed but if Cawley's tweeted it then it's as good as done.southamptonaddick said:

Hylton and Potts coming until January, alongside the failure to sign a 1st team goalkeeper shows to me that the budget went a bit dry towards the end of the window.
I was hoping we'd find the next Potts, Hylton, Berry. etc, but hey ho, need to support and get on with :-)5 -
Assuming Miles and Chuks both remain fit. You have to assume that’s the plan then there is no route for Kanu this season other than a bit part. That’s not progressing him. He needs to be playing games in mens football and get out on loan to get 30 plus games under his belt. It will improve him and make us stronger when he’s back for next season.IR94 said:

It hasn't been confirmed by the club, only suggested by Cawley at the SLPsouthamptonaddick said:

I will be incredibly surprised if he ever appears in a league matchday squad.2
-
Hylton sounds like a waste of wages to me and essentially has the whiff of LuaLua about it from last season.3
-
Well given I've admitted Dan is not as prolific as Del, so which one is not expert at the dark arts? Which forward didn't give their marker a hard time?eastterrace6168 said:

This criticism is like the poster who claimed that Costa was a saint and didnt knee forwards in the back of their thighs to make his mark and intimidate them.
East Terrace, make sure you have your blanket to keep your legs warm.1 -
He's realised that last time we won League One we had three players called Daniel so he's moved quickly to get back to that level again this season. It's smart business.Scoham said:Don’t get what Hylton’s going to add, barely played for Northampton last season in this league and didn’t score many for them the season before in L2.

Well, there's Alfie Mays replacement, so we can stop talking about him now.

And the last time we were promoted we had a diminutive Irish playmaker. Coincidence? Absolutely not. IJWT.Garrymanilow said:

Seriously though, I suspect this is a player-coach role, and that he has to be registered as a player to, well, play. But I think it will be a heavier emphasis on coach. And if it's not, then I think the bossman is right and this will start to feel like jobs for the boys.0 -
As someone said the other day, would have had Wickham back over Hylton, at least we know what he could do in the (most likely) rare appearance.4
-
Didn't he want to trim the squad? Can only imagine he's being signed for non playing reasons.
