A WORD OF WARNING .. on the way to the ground from the Red Robin pub where myself and friend parked up (free and no bother) I saw the arrest of a young Addick fan. He had had a few, was acting the goat BUT no way was he a proper nuisance, his pals had taken him away from the bit of bother he was involved in in the pub's beer garden and were trying to talk him down.. THEN two Greater Manchester Policemen got involved and were (I M O) right over the top, at least the younger of the two and (again in my opinion) rather egged on by his older colleague.
The youngster in question was slammed onto an asphalt car park floor, cuffed and hauled to his feet by the younger cop and when a couple of his friends tried to if not interfere, express concerns for his treatment, the young cop drew and unleashed his baton and screamed GET BACK GET BACK
I know all us football fans are Right Wing Fascist Racist Thugs, BUT !!!
The warning is I suspect that after the recent riots, football fans could be fair game for any 'officials' looking for some come back after being the butts of hurled bricks, abuse, assaults etc and that the Police will be given some (or a lot of leeway) when policing football fans, and the courts will fully back them up
I though carefully before typing this, however, it needs telling
I hope the young Addick was released sharpish and that he was not too badly bruised, also that his mates learnt a lesson. The fine line between high jinks and minor hooliganism is now MUCH finer it seems

No 1 criteria for excluding people from the police. I know a few officers or ex, some brilliant, some absolute sociopaths/psychopaths.

It’s interesting, I was actually surprised at how light the policing seemed at yesterday’s match. With the awful scenes during the week I thought there might be a massive police presence in and around the ground but didn’t seem that way.Lincsaddick said:

Hasn’t been seen all pre-season. He is still listed as part of the coaching set up, however no updated pic, which the others have. I didn't think we played that well yesterday, but it was a hard fought, gritty away win, so I don't think the quality of performance really matters. If that game was played on a Tuesday night in February, it would be seen as the perfect away performance. Expectations on the opening day can get carried away.6 -

With the signings that have joined and other changes we’ve made those two should play a part in us having a better season than that run under NJ last season.6 -
There’s a big difference between a tidy, but slightly lucky, away win at Wigan, and an over celebrated, slightly lucky home win against newly promoted Orient. Reading this thread I seem to be a lot less positive (note, not negative) than others.
I thought it was largely a god-awful, nondescript game with a complete absence of creativity or quality on display. It was only the left winger who come on 2nd half for Wigan that seemed to add anything in that regard and generally I felt if anyone would Nick a goal they’d be more likely.
Fortunately there was a defensive error that led to our goal. Jones produced a fantastic finish you wouldn’t expect from a centre half. One moment effectively dictated the game and had that mistake and strike been at the other end the consensus on here on the performance would have been completely different and the performance marks halved.
Thankfully, it wasn’t though. Three points is ultimately all that matters and we got them. We have to get out of this league, the football is awful. I don’t know whether it’s playing in half empty stadiums that doesn’t help but I watched some of Blackburn v Derby and the gulf to the quality of football, pace of game to the Championship now seems huge.Will be interesting to see how our approach is at home when the emphasis will be more on us to dictate attacking play as opposed to keeping it right away from home and then try to nick something.Hopefully the opening win takes pressure off and acts as a platform to improve.25 -

I thought it was solid away performance. We kept our shape throughout and I can fully understand their manager’s frustration, bewilderment of the outcome and acknowledgment of his players efforts. They were a better side than I thought they would be (so it makes the performance and result even better) and we put a brick wall up to stifle them; and on those occasions they did manage to get around it somebody in a Charlton shirt would put in a worldly tackle. As for capitalising on a defensive error, isn’t that what promotion winning teams do ? Besides, makes a change from it being Charlton being the team that loses because of defensive errors. Loads of positives to take forward from that game.9
