Squad is really starting to take shape now. I feel like we have a good core who will now have the whole of pre season together. I'm feeling quietly optimistic for the season ahead.

CB, GK and a no 10 and we are flying.
Do you think he will try out Fraser before getting a 10 in? I don't know why but for some reason I feel like he wants to train Campbell to play in that 10 role as well. I could be completely wrong but why keep him if he's going to play with wing banks instead of wingers.

I think we should have a look at the Golfieometer, to judge the current level of signings.

First preseason game there's normally a couple of trialists , wonder if that will be the case again

Anyone from Jones' locker past that he might be tempted to have another look at like Wickham and LuaLua?
  • Feels like the number 10/creative player may be a good option for a loan if we can't land a high-quality permanent? Someone of Rak-Sakyi's standard in that position would be ideal.

No one that immediately sticks out from a quick glance at Luton, Southampton or Stokes released lists. Not sure what's going on with Bishop - suspect now we've signed Docherty that's a dead end.

Feels so much better having all permanent signings aswell. Means we aren't panicking with loan signings towards the end of the window. Starting to get excited for the coming season and I've not felt that way for a long time with Charlton.
Probably means next summer will be boring. Can't wait to see what everyone fights about

I'd take a boring summer next year because it would mean our signings worked out well. We need a bit of stability.

We will need to strengthen after promotion though

Nice to feel like we’re so much further along than this time last week.

No wonder NJ seemed comfortable with only 4 signings by then when he had wanted the majority done by that point in time - they must have been close with the last three.

I’m guessing the last few might come later in the window but that’s not a big deal now we have the majority in place before the first friendly.
  • I'm optimistic. Told myself I wouldn't be regardless of who came in this window.

    But I'm optimistic again.

    Dammit

I wouldn’t be surprised to find Dan Potts rehabbing with us, not sure he is fit enough for a contract. The other late addition might Fred Onyedimna as a utility forward/ midfield/ wing back, and possibly Cameron McGeehan, midfielder from Colchester who has a bit of a tangential career with 3yrs in Belgium

NJ said he wanted Campbell to play in the middle, perhaps he meant midfield

NJ said he could not get the ones he wanted and there is no hurry to get another one

I'd say that's a very decent chunk of our business done before the first pre-season game and also the bonding trip abroad.

still expect 2/3 more (Keeper and CB) but the nucleus of the squad looks to be in place

looks from the outside that NJ has been allowed to have the final say and has been backed

    feeling a bit optimistic now....

I think we'll see more from Coventry with better players around him.

Rather than having a clear pivot and two other centre midfielders, we'll have 3 players that can all operate as a pivot or as a 10 or as a box to box.  Options in the middle and plenty of experience
  • So maybe 3-4 more in.

5 out (be interesting to see who misses the Slovenia trip).

    Plus some new kids in

Been a very good week. Crucial when drastically rebuilding a side to have most of the business done before your overseas camp, as that's such an important time for team bonding.

Richard Cawley ruled out Potts a while so that one seems unlikely.

    As it stands:
    GK: Mannion, Isted, AMB
    RWB: Ramsay, Watson, Asiimwe
    CB: A. Mitchell, Edmonds-Green
    CB: Jones, Ness
    CB: Gillesphey, Z. Mitchell
    LWB: Small, Edwards, Edun
    CM: Coventry, Taylor, Henry
    CM: Docherty, Anderson
    AM: Berry, Fraser, Campbell
    ST: Godden, Kanu
    ST: Ahadme, Leaburn, Aneke

Numbers wise I think we're pretty close.

Quality wise, in an ideal world we'd upgrade on a keeper, a centre back, a midfielder and a number 10, with either Isted or AMB leaving, as well as probably Ness, Henry and Fraser

At this point I reckon Jones would see Edun more as a central midfielder than a LWB
