Brilliant work and series for 2-2 but it hurts , they were there for the taking, Lyon being ko’d

I honestly think the batting will do a better job out there than we have on recent tours - this aggressive approach to scoring should hopefully excel on those pitches.
It’s the bowling that worries me more. How are we taking 20 wickets on those pitches?4 -
Depends on why it was reviewed. If a catch has potentially been grounded, then 3rd umpire would look at it, surely that should have been the case? Assume the review was to question if he had gloved it or not?blackpool72 said:

Late post, only catching up.. What a way to finish, fantastic cricket from both teams, and series where you didn't want to miss one ball. I am really pleased for the players to proved the doubters wrong, they really performed very well.. I think we was the better side over all, but we need to go down under and put some performances in, our last few efforts have been awful!
Really pleased for Crawley, and fair play to Baz and Stokes for sticking with him, many would have binned him. But he has proven to be a match winner, and a great slip fielder!
Our bowling selection for India is going to be interesting.. Potentially Robinson being our lead bowler is a bit of a worry!0 - Sponsored links:

Looking at the bowling for the next Ashes series and hoping that those of you who know far more than me about what’s in the pipeline can fill me in. Broad, Moeen and, surely, Jimmy won’t be there. Stokes has to be a major doubt as a bowler as his body gives up. Of the established bowlers that leaves Wood who is great but can’t manage a full series, Archer who is cricket’s version of Chuks, Woakes (what a performance this time!), Robinson who doesn’t convince me, Tongue who has promise and then a list of tried and rejected trundlers Am I missing something obvious or is this a problem?

I think Jimmy will play next summer it's 2 blocks of 3 teats matches with a month in-between. The pace bowling pipeline is a big debate.
Wood will play 2-3 tests a series because his body can't handle 5 tests.
Even as a Sussex fan I'm not overly convinced by Robinson mainly because I don't think he can keep himself in shape to really lead an attack , Woakes is brilliant in English conditions but overseas struggles , Jofra I'd be surprised if he plays tests and doesn't just focus on white ball, Saqib Mahmood has had 2 stress fractures in 18 months now , Olly Stone can't stay healthy, not sure if Sam Curran even wants to play red ball , Josh Tounge and Matty Potts I'd expect to play a part long term maybe we get a look at Brydon Carse at Durham? Sam Cook and Jamie Porter at Essex come up but I don't think either are express pace.0 -
I thought this a bit. That said, there's more to cricket than the next Ashes series. While England have a lot of options who aren't express pace, there are plenty of skiful operators who will be able to get something from most surfaces (Potts, Cook, Porter is having a terrific season, even Bailey might get a go), and they've just shown that Australia CAN be beaten with only one express pace option in the side. Accepted that Tongue is brisk but no Wood, and beyond that the signs are a bit paltry. Brookes of *spits* Warwickshire has some wheels. I said it was Hollywood and it was a drama and narrative which the dirty digger Murdoch is proud: A series that went down to the wire, with a band of Brothers, and an Ashes series which was games of groans and thrills. Now we await the Succession.

But then I suspect that Woakes quite likes it that way.2 -

Wouldn't be surprised if this was very close to the actual squad. There's always one wildcard from nowhere but that seems pretty realistic as a prediction.0 -

Tom Lawes opens doors is the saying at Surrey. But as someone who isn't a fan of Sam Curran I'm surprised you're backing Lawes. Lawes is basically the next Sam Curran. Young, short whippy action, has a knack for making things happen, can bat a bit and his batting will develop, but doesn't have any real pace or menace to his bowling. Atkinson on the other hand is a genuine quick. Not Mark Wood quick but quicker than Tongue. Gets bounce and has the ability to really trouble batsmen. I suspect pace is the key factor here. I know that's the reason England have been watching him this season. Expect him to be on some kind of fast bowlers programme shortly.0 -
