So pleased for Woakes. Few players will have worked so hard to overcome injuries and be rewarded with such a stop-start career. He always seems such a nice bloke.
Didn't watch any of the play today, but from following the scorecard it looks like we made it far more tense than we should have. Great result though.
We did well today IMO. Took all 10 wickets for less than 200 runs.
The problem was yesterday’s opening partnership putting on 140.
That's good. It just seemed to me that until that late flurry of wickets around 5pm it looked closer than I'd have hoped. Maybe the weather had a hand in that. But, like I say, wasn't actually watching.
Will be very interesting to see what attack goes to India , I have doubts about Robinson's fitness and how effective Jimmy and Woakes will be in Indian conditions so Josh Tounge I would guess will play along with Wood and whoever else is fit!
Spin I would assume Ahmed goes and Leach if fit? Liam Dawson wouldn't be a bad shout if we need someone that can also give a bit with the bat too
Kind of incredible how Bazball won every single controversial argument over selection in the end. Most notably Crawley and Bairstow, but also Moeen Ali scoring 60+ runs and taking 3 on one leg putting in probably his best Ashes performance when it mattered
I know all the talk will be about Broad and rightly so ... but Chris Woakes what a performance
Nathan Lyon said to Michael Vaughan that the Aussies were pleased that Chris Woakes didn't play in the first two matches as with the Duke ball in his hand he is very dangerous in English conditions.

Picking Bairstow possibly cost us the series.
Lots of things could have changed the outcome, notably the rain at Old Trafford. If ENG had won that one, who is to say how this game would have gone with different things at stake and different pressure?
England were massively undercooked going into Edgbaston. There's a massive difference between our catching and general decision making at Edgbaston when compared with the last 3 Tests

You saying Ireland wasn’t the same warm up as playing India?
Great series but shame it's not even August and there's no more test cricket this summer.
Hundred to look forward to though, eh?
Chance to see Ashes top scorer Zak Crawley back at his home ground at Lords playing for the erm, Middlesex Invincibles? London Sprinters? Oh you know, the only one sponsored by the posh crisps.
What a way to end a career, your last hit goes for 6,and your last ball squares an ashes series.all teams need a bit of luck,Australia got theirs with the weather, and a Bairstow"misjudgement*,we got our with Nathan Lyons getting injured, dont want to piss on our parade, but the really missed him.

agreed about Lyons but didn't ENG had Archer out, Leach out then Pope injured and Wood only available part-way through? Not sure if AUS had any other injuries though
2-2 feels right, the big challenge for England is to be competitive down under. That's why 2010/11 and 1986/87 are such special series for me, when you consider some of the embarrassing series in Australia other than those wins.

England won their Tests by three wickets and 49 runs.
England win the series tie breaker that I just made up by 1 wicket and 6 runs.
"Me and Woakesy won 2-0 so I'm pretty happy!"
Another Ashes series on the record books.

Clumping tests so close together in this country is asking for trouble with the weather.
