England players never got out playing silly shots before Bazball?
Not one after another doing so on a wicket that was offering so little to the bowlers. How many times has Root ever in his career played like that when not in? It was suicidal stuff.
When I tried to scoop Pat Cummings off the first ball of the day in the last test?

How many of the Australians got out from good bowling?  Remember they lost 7 for 70 odd yesterday.
If you mean Root then I would still question whether it was right to do that. It only takes one ball to get someone out and the reward for being successful playing such a risk/reward shot is a maximum of 6. He then played proper cricket shots that minimised the risk and scored 118 not out.

Australia didn't lose 7 wickets for 70 odd either. They lost their last 7 wickets for 100. And they did that having played the percentages to that point in getting themselves to 316-3. We are now 325 all out AND won the toss AND had the better of the batting conditions. That is a massive difference.

I think we are now seeing why Starc was picked ahead of Boland. The extra pace and different challenge of a left armer when conditions haven't been ideal for a swing bowler.

Apparently the difference in the swing conditions between when England bowled and the Aussies bowled were extreme according to Andy Zaltzman the stats man.

    Edit: it's spelt Zaltzman!

That being the case it only serves to confirm how well the Aussie openers played in those conditions. And how badly we've batted in more friendly conditions.

One of the most useless mornings I have ever seen from England in a test. Utterly utterly awful performance since we started swinging the bat at anything short.

Pathetic effort from England this morning. 6 wickets for 48 runs. Ashes are already gone IMO.

Difficult to predict until we see what the overhead conditions are. It's also only 19 overs to the new ball. In the position we are in I would be disappointed if we can't get somewhere near parity.
    I'm somewhat disappointed.

So so disappointing. The Stokes wicket set the tone and it just got worse and worse.

Stokes offers absolutely nothing to this team. We may as well be playing with 10 men..... it can't carry on.

Aussies continue to show us how to play test cricket

    Australia 416 at 4.13 RR
    England 325 at 4.25 RR

So Australia scored 91 more runs but had they batted at the pace we batted at they could have saved themselves less than 3 overs doing so.

Frustrating thing is there's been a lot of progress under Stokes and McCullum, obviously.

This time a year ago we were playing India with Burns, Hameed, Overton etc, we looked scared of everything.

"Bazball" has been good in the main.  But now we've got that confidence back etc, be positive but sensible.  Get yourself in then go.  Play the situation.

We've had all the luck in these two Tests - winning the tosses, bowling and batting in the best conditions bar about half an hour after rain at Edgbaston, Lyon getting injured.  And we're throwing that away.
Not sure I agree with that.

Plenty of bad Aussie shots finding a gap or being put down by our fielders. Whether the latter is considered poor by us or “lucky” for them, or both, we haven’t had nearly the same fortune.

Miscued shots of ours going straight to their fielders and being caught. Miscued shots of theirs finding gaps or being put down.

Probably just a sign that Australia are the best Test team in the world (best Australian team since early 2000s?) and England have some work to do to catch them.

That’s probably the ashes all over - can’t see Australia getting any less than 300 and wouldn’t be surprised to see them get 350-400. No chance our brain dead batsmen will chase anything over 250-300 even without Lyon being available.

Tail incapable of wagging. There is a difference of just 17 between their and our bottom four. The damage was done by the top 7 not batting sensibly.

Thought I had gone back in time to the 80's where fast paced bowlers got us out cheaply.

    Bazball......pfft !!

Need to bowl Australia out for 250 or less to have any chance.

We now need to bowl them out for under 200 and bat properly in the second innings.

Next 2 sessions hold the key to the Ashes.

England cant be chasing anymore than 300 so need to get them all out under 200.

Could all be over by the close tonight.

Right onto the Aussie bashing, to lift the mood.... I have to say there isn't many if any of their side who i actually like, bring back Warne, he was a loveable wanker
I think they're actually alright this time around, they seem less cocky and annoying.

The bowlers especially seem pretty decent and likeable, Cummins comes across very well.
I actually think the opposite sorry, Starc looks smug and arrogant. For some reason i just don't really like them all.

Such a rollercoaster, Day one we were awful, Day 2 we bowled well and then got back into it, Day 3 started bad, can the bowling get us back into the match?

Looks an uphill task, but if our bowlers turn up it could be another cracker.
