Manager Dean Holden said: “Releasing a player is one of the hardest parts of being a football manager because I’ve got to know these guys really well in such a short space of time, however my job is to make these decisions in the best interests of the club in order to realise our ambitions next season.
“I’d like to thank the players who are set to leave the club for what they have given to Charlton over the years.
“Albie Morgan is an academy graduate who has played nearly 150 games for the first team and has been here a large part of his life after joining Charlton at the age of nine. We're really grateful for everything he has done for the football club in that time. His commitment to the club has been first class since I arrived.
“Ryan Inniss and Sean Clare have both embraced what being a Charlton player means, having contributed on the pitch and also winning the club’s PFA Community Champion award for the work they have done in our local community.
“Nathan Harness has been a consummate professional since I arrived and while Macauley Bonne and Alex Gilbey have had their ups and downs at Charlton, we respect what they have contributed to the club.
“We thank everyone leaving for their hard work and wish them and their families the best for the future."
Meanwhile, an update on the U21s can be found below.

The club has offered a contract to: Nazir Bakrin.
The club has not taken up the option to extend the contracts of: Billy French, Nathan Harvey, Mack Reilly.

I hope we do have some funds to play with as that is quite a clear out, especially if Hector moves on.14
-
Wow ! Well happy with that !!
unexpected and a HUGE clearout
shows how much work there is to do now !!!16 -
Wow. Looks like we're getting the clean slate many people wanted9
-
No more Inniss and Morgan
Happy with that.31 -
Quite surprised that Morgan has been let go although I’m not disappointed. Still got a job on to get rid of the returning loanees, all of whom are dead weight.

Well played Deano, massive clear out there
interesting summer now6 -
Disappointed to see Clare and Morgan go - both decent squad players at this level. We have some relatively poor players returning from loan.16

I still would of offered Albie an extra year. Not bothered about the rest. Need to get this window right now.7

That’s quite some clear out2

Absolutely no argument to be made for keeping any of them. Good on Dean20

CB: Zach Mitchell, Lucas Ness, NEW, NEW
LB: NEW, NEW
CM: George Dobson, Scott Fraser, NEW, NEW

ST: Chuks Aneke, Daniel Kanu, Miles Leaburn, NEW
Is how I see it, with Hector being one of the CB's if he signs, Thomas becoming the new Clare utility player as backup left back, and Henry replacing Morgan as the youngster midfielder in the squad, leaving us to sign a minimum of 6 players to have a squad, however I'd want to sign another 3 and send Kanu, Henry and Mitchell out on loans3 -
Depends on who we replace them with...DDOUBLEE said:Absolutely no argument to be made for keeping any of them. Good on Dean16 -
Clare I tend to agree, but not that gutted, and it may have been his choice if he wants to play in midfield.hoof_it_up_to_benty said:Disappointed to see Clare and Morgan go - both decent squad players at this level. We have some relatively poor players returning from loan.
Morgan I think if it's him or McGrandles I'd be more inclined to go with McGrandles and see if Cambridge fans are right.
Interesting it's a big clearout, could definitely go either way depending on the quality of any replacements.0 -
I haven't included any of the loanees coming back as I believe they'll all be moved on again one way or another0
-
I must confess to being a little surprised at Sean Clare leaving, as he seemed to tick the box as able to step in and cover several positions/formation changes. Seemed to be the ideal 'Curbs-type' utility player.
And Terell Thomas staying, despite his late run of games of decent form.
Maybe it was a choice between Clare and Thomas ..... with Thomas seeming more specialist/better match concentration?

I do hope part of Dean's masterplan is to to award Megarider bus tickets to Jaiyesimi, Kirk, Lavelle and McGrandles? Surely.1
-
Just put Kirk, DJ and Lavelle on the transfer list and all looks good3
-
Of the in-contract players, I believe we'll see a number of them moved on.

Given how many poor signings we've made I hope somebody sorts out the recruitment. So many players have underperformed or were poorly scouted. Kirk, Jaiyesimi, Payne, Gilbey etc the list is endless...North Lower Neil said:

And then there is dear old Chuks ........2

I think you can look at this in a couple of ways. Yes, well pleased with the clear out of players who aren't good enough. Morgan, Innis, Clare etc. But we’re still going into the new season on operation break even. Those positions are going to be taken up by some of the emerging talent. In other words, cheaper options. Personally, I can’t see us spending any money unless the takeover goes through and as it stands Sandgaard is dragging his heels. The future doesn’t look bright0

Happy with that. Wish them good luck elsewhere

Good luck to him but good that Morgan has moved on. Deeply frustrating player that didn’t do it anywhere near enough.Hope he does well wherever he ends up of course.12

I understand that Clare wants to pay further forward and not at right back. I don't think Clare is a great right back, and when I have seen him play, wanders out of position. In the right midfield, occassional bits of good attacking play. Not convinced at him at right midfield. As with all the released, it depends on what players come in.I do like the way Dean Holden presents and talks about players - a down to earth and reassuring approach.8

I see as a good thing. If it was cheaper options then innis would of been kept over hector_MrDick said:I think you can look at this in a couple of ways. Honestly, bar Hector I’d be happy with them all going.Kirk, Lavelle and DJ next.15

Very different to what I heard but positive as it suggests we want to do a proper rebuild.
Of the three offered a contract only Hector could expect to be a regular.
Thomas has worked his way back into the squad but would likely be a squad player, assuming TS/new owners don't insist on Mitchell, Ness and Elerewe being next in line. Three senior CBs backed up by those three should be the minimum.
Given Henry's lack of game time he's seen as a prospect and I think we'll be aiming to send him on loan - ideally L2, if not back to the NL.
I didn't put together an updated squad list in January but will look to do so now this is out.3 -
It's early days yet ..... Holden has made a judgment call not only on ability, but character and mental strength too I would imagine._MrDick said:I think you can look at this in a couple of ways. Managers try to make a team in their own image. He'll be looking for players with the right temperament, drive and fitness.
