  • Surprised Morgan has gone, seeing as how regularly he played under Holden,Disappointed about Innis as  I liked him,but there you go.Just hope Hector and Thomas sign or we are in trouble at CB.The clear out that many people wanted has happened,I await with some trepidation their replacements.
Inniss gave us some much needed height at the back and considerably more grit - unfortunately he didn’t really turn up with many goals from the back, his injury record was terrible, and had a real problem with the red mist.
  • It's definitely what was needed, but I'm still amazed it's actually happened.  Holden showing some balls as he knows they're not good enough.  Just hope he's allowed to bring players in that he wants
  • Can I just add, doesn't it seem strange to publish the list on a Saturday afternoon? Do we think that TS has finally given up and new owners announced next week, and new  player/players soon after?
It just seems very strange day to publish the list!
Hope you are right but I fear we are in clutching at straws territory. I agree it is strange timing though.

Need to get rid of Diallang Jaiyesimi, Charlie Kirk & Sam Lavelle and probably Conor McGrandles

Jaiyesimi in particular. I still remain hopeful that McGrandles could come good.

I consistently seem to rate Clare higher than other people
Reminded me of a modern day Denis Booth, both were stop gap players, never quite good enough to be your first choice in whatever position they played.
Or not sufficiently specialist in one position?

I remember Dennis Booth in the later 60s - the regular number 12.
Usually played in midfield when he got on, but I do remember a short run of games where he started as striker and scored a few goals.

  • Well played Deano, massive clear out there

    interesting summer now
There’s two ways of looking at it I suppose.

    1. Ruthless and encouraging that we want to replace with better players

    2. Tightening budget and looking to scale back where we can

Not quite sure where I sit tbh
Don't think option 2 sits with the fact that we've offered Hector a deal - he won't be cheap.

We needed a clear out, we've been asking for a clear out, we're getting a clear out. Only positive imo
  • I’d probably have kept Clare as a 4th choice full back plus extra versatility but he wasn’t particularly good. I’d have just gone for Inniss over Thomas but not much in it, just didn’t want both

Its possible he accepted a cheap deal from us, to put himself in the Summer Shop Window.

He's potentially done that now, and we may be thinking we can offer peanuts still
  • Thomas likely to be cheaper than Inniss I.e happier to accept a squad player salary.

Can also cover left back which has been a massive problem area for us.
  • Disappointed to see Morgan leave, but I can also see that he'd benefit from a clean start.

Agreed. Out for a walk and popped in the pub for a quick pint and to check the football scores, and the last thing I was expecting was the released list.
  • A clear out is great, must admit I didn't think it was going to be so big a clearout and hopefully shows that work has been/is going on behind the scenes, just need to see some serious new blood coming in to replace
They must see a lot of potential in Henry... and also PLEASE sign Hector, will be a good partnership with Ness next season...
Now we just need to find some mugs to take on Lavelle, DJ, and Kirk...🙄

Weird how Thomas was about to leave at the end of January, only for the move to be cancelled at the last minute when O'Connell left, and now he's been offered a new deal.

We may have only offered Thomas a deal after Inniss declined. I expect that is why we are still waiting on a response from him.

  • Wow that's a clear out and not before time. Garner saw Morgan as a 10, Holden gets rid! Innis has surprised me as I saw an improvement in his game (not the hot headedness) when playing alongside Hector.
I hope Hector signs for us, but outside of that I'm reserving judgement until I see what players are coming in. Would we offer a contract to Seesegnon once his deal with Fulham has expired? Glad to see the back of Bonne, and Gilbey. Well done to Holden, now let's get new owners and give Holden who he needs by spending some cash!
Finally why keep Chucks? I see no point with his injury record.

    Chucks has a contract.
  • No arguements from me about who's gone , can't really fault any of it. Thomas is fine as a 4th CB/cover LB , Henry has bags of potential but needs a loan in League 2 to toughen up and Hector hopefully can be a starter.

Loans coming back I wouldn't be against giving Kirk preseason at least , Mcgrandles comes straight into the squad for Morgan - not bothered about Lavelle and DJ , think both will drop into L2.

I must say I'm surprised the clear out is being greeted so positively as it seemed quite a few were advocating to keep this lot as 'squad players.'

Nonetheless it's very positive news. We can't keep doing what we're doing and expecting different results. It goes beyond just ability, the mentality on the pitch over the past few seasons has been diabolical. And I really trust Holden, with his psychological approach, to judge who he wants in his camp.
  • We will need a back up squad of utility players to get us through a 50+ game season. Look at how Wendies burnt out and even Barnsley went shaky.
Dipping into the development squad is one thing, but becoming reliant on it will not get us promoted.

Saying a player is no more than a squad player ain't quite the same as saying you want to keep them as a squad player
  • I’m happy with all that. I’m ok with the new contracts for Henry, Hector and Thomas.
