I've just cancelled my TV licence direct debit, though tbf they took the last one about a week ago and I'll barely be at home for the next few weeks anyway. But still, i hope many others take the same step againt the gutless corporation.

I don’t like Lineker, and muted him a long time ago as I found his constant arguing and preaching to be quite grating.
But it’s still his right to be able to do it. Whether I or anyone else likes it or not is irrelevant.
This is a terrible decision by the BBC, and they have lost an almighty amount of credibility.And everyone knows who is really behind it all, but hopefully they’ll be long gone in two years time.9 -

I have no interest in what the likes of Lineker & Neville say when they start talking about politics personally.
However, Twitter is a forum that should be used freely (so long as now laws are broken).
So I absolutely do stand up for him in this instance as he has every right to say what he wants on his own account. His comments did not bring his employers into disrepute imho and therefore the actions of the BBC stink.

I think we need to hear from someone senior in the BBC about how this decision has come about. Perhaps the BBC chairman?
Whilst he explains how important impartiality is at the BBC he can explain why those rules don't apply when he facilitated an 800k loan for Boris whilst applying for the chairman's job at the BBC.
I have always defended the BBC to the hilt and walking the line of impartiality has never been harder in this day and age. But this is an appalling decision and will lose them a great deal of public respect, which they are likely to never get back.

Some would say this is a great way to move forward the "deconstruction" of the BBC. You either hate it because it's "woke" or hate it because it's suspending and censoring righteous heroes of the people.
It's almost like someone senior in the BBC was pressing the self destruct button...2 -

One thing I've noticed on Twitter is that Sky are giving the Lineker story a lot of publicity, and are telling the story in a way that's very sympathetic to him. Now of course that could just be because most people feel sympathy for Lineker, even if they don't agree with what he originally said, and Sky may just be reflecting what their viewers think. But I wonder if someone at Sky has called him and said something along the lines of "ten percent extra salary and you can say what you like when you're off-air"?1

I can’t see what is wrong with what he has tweeted. Is there something not quite right and good with his views? But then I’m not a Tory so I probably won’t understand an opposing view.3

While I agree with the sentiment, I'm not sure speeding the dismantling the BBC by further cutting its funding will be the protest you might think. good points about the Festering Boyle and knackered out H I G N F Y leftie/anti Tory comments .. however as for the interesting theory about Lineker looking to get the sack, career suicide by twatter as it were .. I can't see him forgoing his £1 Million plus licence payer funded wedge voluntarily .. he moonlights on BT Sport now and then, but he seems to be out of favour for the crisp adverts .. and who else will pay him what the beeb does, in fact anywhere near what the beeb does ? ..
