If unbeaten runs are the criteria, Huddersfield would have multiple knighthoods by now.
  • He's an odd character.  So self important.

Yes he had a very good career (though not as good as he thinks), but to sit and read a news article on the honours list and then sit there stewing enough that you draft a rebuttal is such a strange way to spend an afternoon.

Rooney hasn't got any honours, for example, and he's England's (joint now) record goalscorer.

I went to a lunch where Sol Campbell and Michael Owen were talking about their careers.  Campbell actually did a great job of being more boring than Michael Owen and that’s a very high bar!

he’s an utter nob and his social media rantings just reinforce that for me

I feel sorry for the fella…..he obviously has some unusual traits, without actually doing harm to anyone else as far as I can tell.
From what I gather, he would appear to be a bit delusional but has he actually ever hurt anyone or greatly offended someone in anyway….not as far as I know, yes he’s a bit weird but I think he’s harmless enough.

He does have a tendency to bring race into everything he says - not a particularly nice trait

If I look at Steven Gérard and Frank lampard who got opportunities at the highest level I can feel some sympathy for him. However people in the game would be better judges than me or would they ?

Just when you thought he'd gone quiet...

Begging for a Knighthood is a new low, even for him.

And he wonders why he hasnt been recognised!

Well he was asked the question (I assume), albeit the presenter looked like she wished she hadn't by the end.
  • "I'm not the only sporting great that has been overlooked.."
  • I don’t think he’s the full shilling.
  • His (self written) Linkedin profile never ceases to amuse.

A Tottenham player that went on to win something probably does deserve some kind of recognition.
  • A centre-back potentially showing signs of CTE after retirement? Well, I never.

    He’s such a peculiar bloke.

the sort of guy that will one day turn up naked, on the roof of a random building, smeared in shit and eating ice cream.
    Better than the alternative...

  • Such an odd mix of ego and paranoia.

According to him at various points, he should have been England captain, a Premier League manager, major of London, and given a knighthood.

Oh and praised for his bravery in telling Spurs he would stay if they appointed Hoddle, then signing for Arsenal for free instead.

I'm sure there's other things too.

And it's all so unfair he isn't, definitely a conspiracy against him and not his own personality.

  • "I'm not the only sporting great that has been overlooked.."
    Totally deluded

Sure that interview started with her in the top box and him in the bottom box, and ended the other way round?
  • The guy is a lunatic. "I'm up with some of the sporting greats of our country."

He won 6 major trophies. Tons of players have won more.
He has 73 England caps. 28 players have earned more.

Relatively speaking, there's people all over the country who have achieved more, and who piss all over his '20 year commitment' to football, who haven't had any acknowledgement, or been paid a penny for their trouble. Must be really difficult committing  to something that makes you very wealthy.

“Sporting great” - get over yourself mate.
  • The geezer has more issues than The Beano.
  • I can't understand where this constant need for approval comes from, Sol Campbell at his best (and he had a prime of, id say, 98-2005) was one of the best CB's in premier league history, I think only a fool would disagree. Can he not be happy with that ? Wayne Rooney is probably the most talented English players of all time and won a lot more doesn't have a knighthood why should Sol Campbell ??
