Entertaining game. Predictable outcome but the main stars were the Coalville fans.3

Wonder if Ness will be the first to be recalled (Unless he cant for 28-days), given he's actually played for us this season already compared with Elerewe and Barker - Be good if he'll be allowed to play for Torquay tomorrow in the FA Cup, as their game with Derby is on ITVLouisMend said:0 -
Ness would definitely be my pick if we need to recall a youngster.4

I thought their rendition of 'you're just a small town in millwall' quite novel.

Enjoyable game. Very pleasantly surprised to see Charlton respecting the competition and the opposition and putting a strong team out. If a few more of our recent managers had done this, there might have been a better turn out today.23

If he plays tomorrow, he then cannot play for us in the next roundForeverAddickted said:

Just depends if we can turn round at this stage and say he cant play, if we've originally agreed.ross1 said:

I hope we cant, as would be a bit prickish to Torquay's plans0 -
I keep promising myself not to watch this bunch of clowns, but, I always succumb and watch. I really hate shit 3rd division players.0
-
I'm surprised it's not happened already. We could get away with Mitchell on the bench today as it was Tier 7 opposition, but if we had been playing a L2 or NL club, I think Mitchell would have been found out.LouisMend said:0 -
Interesting, around the 25th minute, to see Clare send in a cross from the right wing, with his left foot.0

I like 4-4-2 but thought Coalville were naive to try it against a patient, passing, build up team like Charlton. They needed to change it after about 20 mins when it was obvious their two forwards couldn't shut down our back four and their passing routine. As ineffective as Clare was (he lacked drive) he still offered us width and Coalville needed a five man midfield to close up the flanks.
As for performances, it was hard not to be impressed with Mitchell (despite the lack of forward opposition). He was incredibly smooth coming forward and beautifully balanced. This is a real player.
Well done to Stockley too. He did plenty of hard work and laid off/played some good balls. Nice to see him take some shots too. He was crap last week v Ipswich but hopefully today will remind him, what a decent player he can be, when he just plays, rather than look to blame others when things get tough.
Also...JFC showed why he ought to be in the league match day squad. A very tidy performance, from a player who has hardly played. Someone is going to get a bargain in January.
Finally...a real shame Jake's header didn't go in, in the final minute. 4-1 or 4-2....didnt matter....it would have been so special for him to score.

Got released by West Ham and has played at a few non-league clubs. Big Charlton fan from Dartford. Really gutted when his last minute header was saved.SoundAsa£ said:

Mitchell looked good coming forward, but then he was hardly tested in defence for 90% of the game. I'm always a little bit wary about getting too excited about defenders who are good on the ball until they've shown they can do the "day job" as well.5

I wasn't. He was playing against Charlton, not for Charlton.Simonsen said:

I must have missed something?I don't get why people in the west stand stood and clapped when they scored.4 -
Mitchell is seventeen! 17!!!!
Appreciate him, he still has to develop, he stepped up when called on, did it well, kudos.25 -
Our team is threadbare but highly motivated. Only a few, but high quality players, mixed with kids. Garner makes all the difference - Jacko's wimbledon drew to Weymouth today. Says it all really.0 -
This is spot on. Some of the whinging is off the scale.FishCostaFortune said:Never knew a bunch of fans to be so depressed in a game where we won 4 - 1, and the only reason we conceded was because our 4th choice CB made one mistake.4 -
Mc Grandles came in injured and has played limited minutes. He hasn’t set the world on fire but I hope for his sake he doesn’t read this thread.14
-
With McGrandles, he was in my memory bank of strong League One players but he hasn't shown that since joining us. Obviously, I had a high opinion of him from noticing strong performances.0

Almost scored at the end! Still came away with a shirt signed by the Charlton team! Nice gesture, Sandgaard will be invoicing him in the post!Dave2l said:Did the bloke who supports Charlton purposely put in "the worst Coalville performance of a lifetime"
Because he loves Charlton so much8 -
It wasn't really. We could and should have scored more. If anything it's frustrating we didn't.killerandflash said:4-1 is slightly flattering, but in these games the higher teams normally pull clear at the end, with their better squads and fitness.1 -
I have a nagging feeling that TS and a few aging hangers on are in a studio somewhere across the pond, penning a rock anthem to celebrate our glorious progression through this iconic competition...
In all seriousness, I awake to a strange feeling. Charlton have not embarassed themselves to lower league opposition in the FA Cup. Well done the lads!4
