I agree. Ipswich were probably in the top one of big spenders.Clarky said:Can't see it really matters, afterall being in the top three budget wise last season didn't equate to anywhere near our final league position.
It didn't get them promoted.2 -
Big money don't mean promotion, you can have all the money in the world, but if you don't know how and where to spend it, it means f all.
We ain't done too bad with the signings so far, and listening to Ben's pre Derby interview, he sounds upbeat with how things are going with a couple of potential new signings, so every confidence that we will get what we want sorted soon enough..panic not everybody...

I understand that a top 3 budget should roughly equate to a top 3 finish in general terms, but we also have to take into account that the team that finished last season (regardless of the budget), finished 13th. So you’re already having to make up for the gap that existed.0

And then went out of this way to big up Martin for "finding" Garner 🤷♂️🤷♂️Southbank said:TS is getting his retaliation in first. If things don't turn out well he is not the bad guy if he can convince us money was not the issue.
BG gone by Xmas if we have a poor start? After all, apparently he has a top 3 budget to work with.

Someone on here confirmed a while ago it’s shared with all owners in the division. Part of ensuring the league remains competitive I guess.eaststandmike said:How does he know the figures of other clubs0 -
I would forget about transfer fees in thinking about it. Such a high % of league 1 transfers are frees or loans.cabbles said:I understand that a top 3 budget should roughly equate to a top 3 finish in general terms, but we also have to take into account that the team that finished last season (regardless of the budget), finished 13th. Wigan spent less than us on fees last season.
The metric that matters is wages.7 -
A top 3 budget doesn't mean a top 3 finish, but it sure helps! Ipswich were the outlier last season, but the likes of Wigan, Sunderland and Wednesday all finished in the top 5 last season. The 2011/12 and 2018/19 promotion sides would both have been near the top of the table for wages.
It's obvious we're spending less this summer from our signings, when we've signed 4 players who were all playing in L2 last season, and 1 from Lincoln who won't be near the top of the salary scale either.

Cannon of Everton who we are linked with playing under 21 for Everton now and scores just b4 halftime for them,3

Both could very easily be true. Clearly Wednesday and Derby are spending more than anyone did last year. The players who Derby have brought in this summer will be on at least 2-3 times anything we are paying.Scoham said:
So shock horror, both Garner and TS could be telling the truth.14 -

I agree , but I suspect Ipswich are paying over the odds as well.RC_CAFC said:

I suspect we are probably top six with Barnsley and Peterborough potentially out gunning us also.1 -
I read that as our budget hasn't changed much.
How other budgets compare is another thing but I suspect the three relegated clubs plus Derby and Wednesday have bigger budgets.
I was more interested that Garner was finally wearing a club top and, since this is the rumours thread, that he said two players were close.
Assuming JRS is one and Sarr is the other4 -
Isnt Sarr @ Reading now?Henry Irving said:I read that as our budget hasn't changed much.

I assumed that was a joke about Henry's favourite ball playing defender.
Ince expecting Naby to be confirmed next week.

Interested to know how some think he is above league 2 level?cabbles said:I too think JFC is above League 2, but if he does end up at Orient I think it highlights how massively inflated people’s opinions of him are for us.Of course, we can argue circumstances at his stage of life re: moving home etc, but to end up at Orient would be a pretty sizeable statement as to how overhyped he’s beenCoaches, recruitment staff, agents etc say different..3 -
To be fair i'm sure most people on this forum could probably tell you which clubs have the biggest budgets.eaststandmike said:How does he know the figures of other clubs0 -
Yeah, derby are last and their business been terrible like us cos they’ve not spent any fees..Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Based on career to date, but I take your point that if he is heading there, then that is his level.Redhenry said:

i agree - jfc was neat and tidy, nothing morecabbles said:
I’ve just never got the hype and I do appreciate I’m in the minority as the general consensus is that most people I would imagine would like to see him play.Cafc43v3r said:
Obviously everyone is entitled to opinions on players it would be pretty boring if everyone always agreed but personally I am gutted that he won't get the chance to prove his fitness here. He isn't without blame to why though.cabbles said:I too think JFC is above League 2, but if he does end up at Orient I think it highlights how massively inflated people’s opinions of him are for us.Of course, we can argue circumstances at his stage of life re: moving home etc, but to end up at Orient would be a pretty sizeable statement as to how overhyped he’s been
I do find it strange though that people are writing him off without actually seeing him play again, yet people were prepared to have a melt down when it was suggested Dobson might not start last week.
Remember they are the last two POTY and actually JFC got a higher statbank mark, in a better team than Dobson did.As you say it’s just different opinions. I certainly think he’s an okay player for this level, but nothing more. I might be judging him too harshly given the 2 knee injuries, but I just never took to him, even before the injuries.0 -
Wow that PP video couldn't be any more spot on could it...10

Maybe a bit harsh to focus on Liverpool, when they could have covered fans from most Premier League sides0
