If you watched Squid Games dubbed then I could probably understand why you wouldn’t like it. Sounds like GCSE drama voiceovers.
  • Finished the first season of Gomorrah yesterday. Starting to warm up. First few episodes were full of shite acting and not a lot to get your teeth in to.

The Don Pietro playing at being mental whilst in prison was very predictable.

Genny returning from Honduras livened it up a bit. Looking forward to seeing what season 2 brings.

Definitely! I watched subbed then tried one episode dubbed and it was awful, no effort made lol!

Manhunt: the night stalker, Series 2 (series 1 completely different and doesn't have to be seen first).

Cannot recommend this enough, four parts to it, it’s about the south east London pensioner rapist, you might remember it in the papers 10/15 years ago.  It is proper tense viewing and if you live alone you’ll probably shit yourself if you hear a tap drip in the night post viewing, so you’ve been warned.  Martin Clunes is absolutely brilliant in it.
Loved this series. One thing I particularly liked, and probably because it's based on a real person, is that the DI is actually likable and not a series of cliched personality flaws. Made the series believable.
  • Really buzzing for the third season of You which starts on Friday on Netflix. Considering I was wasn’t convinced by the first couple of episodes of season one and had to be persuaded by the missus to stick with it I’m really glad I did. Judging by the trailer I have a feeling season three will be the best yet.

    No spoilers!

Series 2 is fantastic imo. I agree it took a few episodes to warm into.

Ps. Don Pietro looks like @Covered End

    Apologies.

Couldn't wait so have started season 2 already (was already balls deep in episode 1 when I posted earlier). Currently 20 minutes in to episode 3 whilst ensuring Teams doesn't go in to 'Away' mode  :)

Started last night. Really good and doesn't try too hard. In fairness it doesn't need too. The story is gripping in itself.
  • Succession series 3 out next Monday, brilliant programme, dialogue snappy like Thick Of It, think the writer is from Peep Show. Rewatching first two series ahead of Monday, really is excellent.

Squid game was superb, worthy of the reviews.
I get that the acting was decent, but the whole concept was wank and most of the twists were pretty obvious. Really dont understand the reviews

    Anyone seen Alice in Borderland?
Came out the end of last year.

The synopsis reads similar to Squid Game, players face deadly games they must win to survive.
    Wondering if its worth watching?
Just started watching this following Squid game, enjoying it so far and i'd recommend if you like squid game (how could you not lol)

I watched dubbed, there were certain bits that annoyed me too because of it but i always forget. For Alice in borderland i am watching it with subtitles and doesn't sound ridiculous, must remember in future or even rewatch SG

Marvel's What If...?.  Only watched one so far but I enjoyed it.  It's well written and they got proper actors to do the voices - Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Stanly Tucci, etc.

Squid Game is the best thing on telly at the moment.  Three episodes in and both Ms AA and I are hooked.  Everyone we've spoken to who's watched it has the same opinion.

Finished Alice in borderland last night, would recommend. On netflix, not quite as good as squid game but its quite similar in the concept (well sort of), anyone who enjoyed Squid should like this. Roll on next series now

Anyone see the Josh Widdicombe Who Do You Think You Are?

    (Spolier alert I guess)

Interesting watch but then half of me thinks it's so many generations back that there's millions of potential links, half of us are probably descended from some random royal's 4th illegitimate daughter 19 generations back or whatever but it's just that the records aren't there.

Finished Squid Games. Enjoyed it at first but thought it got steadily less interesting as it went on. The acting by the VIPs was absolutely dreadful.

Yeah it’s been well documented how bad the VIP acting was. Sounded like porn dialogue.

Just watched the 1st ep of squid games. Looks right up my street and want to watch the 2nd ep straight away.

Started off watching it dubbed and then changed to subtitles. Much better.

I watched a few minutes of the dubbed version the other night, just to see what it was like.
    Oh my god.
I’m sure they just got some random people on the street to read the script without them knowing anything about it. The voice acting is some of the worst, monotone crap I’ve ever heard. The acting by the actual cast is so good the dubbing is a huge slap in the face.
I’d always go with the original language and subtitles but squid game is particularly bad for the dubbed version.

I actually watched it Dubbed, really rubbish on that side but still enjoyed it. Think i will have to watch it properly with subtitles sometime soon, alot of the voice overs are awful

Appreciate dubbing is not too great, but the thing is with subtitles, is that the cinematographer has lovingly crafted every frame to be viewed, but you end up just looking at the bottom 25% of the screen most of the time

    1st episode enjoyed
thought 2nd episode was bit meh
  • I watched the dubbed version, know it's not as good but too tired at the moment to want to read subtitles.

    Still enjoyed it.

One thing I did wonder, not sure if it's just me (and SORT OF SPOLIER ALERT BELOW):

The policeman, did anyone else think he looked just like the 2nd guy to get killed in Red Light, Green Light?  One of the two who ran off, the guy who then discovered his mate had been shot?

I'm just bit sure if it was a deliberate red herring, or me thinking too much about two actors with skinny faces and a similar haircut.

Did the job either way as it meant no way did I guess the twist about his brother.

Yeah, absolutely awful. In fact, that episode with the VIPs almost derailed the series. Misguided episode and poor, poor performances.
  • Second series of Guilt (Scotland's Fargo) is back on our screens. Cracking stuff...although they could have said prior to the first episode that the main baddie is the same character played by a different actor this series.

Yeah. I thought that. Bill Paterson (as always) nailed it in the first series.  I’ll need to watch the new one again as I was tired and not really focussing but it didn’t have the same dark humour that the first series had.

Watched all 4 episodes last night via iPlayer and loved it !

Great acting & a plot that kept us guessing throughout.

Mind you, we had to pause it several times to discuss what we had gleaned thus far and as a result, clarified the scenario as we saw it unfolding.

NOT one for a quick  doze  whilst watching, even for a minute.

And Mr F stayed awake the whole time !
