Can he play wide in a 442?Big_Bad_World said:You could do a lot worse than getting Ferguson in from us.
Would suit a system with Stockley as Ferguson, although not blessed with any degree of pace, works his arse off and does have a great delivery.
However, as I said, he doesn't have any pace. He does, however, have a superb delivery and work-rate. Can take a decent free-kick as well.4 -

I'm sure he's half decent but I think many of our lot would see it as an Aiden McGeady signing. Nigel has come out publically trying to reduce the age of our squad and I'm not sure Ferguson would necessarily fit the project we're tying to build as a slow 29 year old wide man, as good as his work rate and delivery may be.Big_Bad_World said:

I'd imagine that if we weren't as worried about age, we'd me more in the market for a Bacuna type player who's due to leave Huddersfield on a free unless he lands a deal. He may be 29 but has the pace and trickery, much like he's used Millar and DJ this year.1 -
Mullin could be another Ajose, one blinding season when his team were flying high and he was the main man ..charlton_hero said:

Yeah, I completely get that. I'm very much in the camp of a wide man needing some pace about him.Vfrf said:

Just think that dropping down a division would work hugely in Ferguson's favour and also to whoever takes a punt on him. If you got Stockley then I reckon you're looking at a promising partnership on the pitch.

With JFC out for the start of next season and losing Doughty and Maddison we need a left footed dead ball specialist .Big_Bad_World said:

My only misgiving is age . He turns 30 in the summer .1 -
29 isn't that old in football terms and a lot younger than Watson and Pratley2

When I hear his name, it reminds me of Paul Benson. Just for that it’s a no from me.Lincsaddick said:

I doubt we’ll see too much of either Pearce, Pratley or Watson so a 30 year old that fits our needs seems like a good idea for me. In fact apart from Watson, will they even still be at the club.Henry Irving said:29 isn't that old in football terms and a lot younger than Watson and Pratley0 -

People are very scarred by Ajose. His name seems to come up every time a player has a decent goalscoring season and we look at him. Sometimes it's just a flash in the pan and sometimes it's the start of a player figuring himself out, the management will hopefully be able to judge that. We don't have to cross ourselves to ward off Ajose's spirit every time though

Strangely I think recruitment now will be better than when Driesen and Meire were calling the shots and not just because we'll have a sensible budget.Garrymanilow said:People are very scarred by Ajose. We’re losing Maatsen and Millar. We need left sided options. Ferguson sounds like he would an extremely flexible option up and down that side. Yes he’s turning 30 and we’re trying to bring the age of the squad down but his game has never been about pace. I wouldn’t be against a two year deal.Richard J said:

I'd like to also claim some scarring from Pawel Abbott, David Mooney and Akpo SodjeChunes said:

It would probably mean we could afford an extra winger or striker in the squad as he could provide cover at full back.Callumcafc said:

Ferguson sounds like a decent option, would prefer most of our signings to be players on the way up though. Young guys like Wintle and Lowery at Crewe would be ideal. Proven at this level but at an age where they can improve.0
-
I read somewhere that Adkins said he wanted to bring the average age of the squad down. Quite sad that a 30-year-old signing would still probably do that.4

I for one would like us to build a more mature and experienced squad around Gunter, Pratley and Watson.33 -
I noticed that Wes Hoolahan is still playing. 39 in a couple of weeks. Reckon he is worth a 3 year contract.grumpyaddick said:

Ipswich aren't wasting any time are they. Already said Judge wouldn't play because it would trigger an extension. Released their captain and another long serving player today.0

333 unread posts and here I am reading this thread. I think I’ll come back when it hits 3333.1

Luke Chambers has played 396 times for them in 9 season, an incredible fitness record. Indeed he's played 774 games in totalCafc43v3r said:Ipswich aren't wasting any time are they. I agree but it won't help us lower the age of the squad .Henry Irving said:29 isn't that old in football terms and a lot younger than Watson and Pratley
I guess we need to wait and see who is released .0 -
Been looking at suitable accommodation in the area apparently! 😉Lazy_eye_metaphor said:l
We generally don't do transfer business with that lot. Better to keep it that way IMHO.ShootersHillGuru said:
If Henry’s source is correct and Ferguson of Millwall is being looked at then he is comfortable at either left back or left wing. Played consistently at a higher level than league one and is a good age at 29.robinofottershaw said:I would keep Matthews and Watson but let Gunter and Pratley go and bring in younger players at right back and centre midfield to challenge or be first choice ahead of Matthews and Gunter.
If Pearce stays I would hope he is more of a squad player next season than first choice. Same goes for Purrington. I think he has been stronger defensively than Maatsen but would be good to see someone who can combine that side of the game along with being strong going forward. Purrington is a perfectly adequate back up at L1 level.

I see Emyr Huws is being released by Ipswich . Ex Man City trainee who is a Welsh International , left footed over 6ft and only 27 .
I liked him since he played against us for Birmingham and scored in 2014. I suspect his injury record will mean we wouldn't go for him but he certainly did have ability in his younger days .3
