Can’t comment on the defensive tactics blaming in this, I didn’t watch it.
However, I do know it’s a massive frustration for every football fan when their side try to shut the game down when they are winning and then don’t achieve it. And I cannot think of a single team / manager that does not adopt this tactic when defending a slender lead in the last segment of the game. Can anyone?
I appreciate everyone is gutted when we lose and there will always be an element of blame emerge. But Bowyer is not a ‘shit manager’ for the games we don’t lose in extra time.
Given the amount of crap he’s dealt with and how he has everytime seemingly put our club first when he could easily have said f**k this, I’d love it if we could all be a bit more supportive and loyal. Just my opinion.33 -

This season has been one kick in the bollocks after another. Very disappointing to concede in injury time / late on again. Still we have to hope and there is 2 games left.

Simply we've lost the ability to win and manage a game. If we don't go down it will be a miracle, which if we some how stay up we'll be doing a Norwich next year. Not forgetting they missed a penalty............
More than ever Bowyer had instructed to play from the back, seemed to be mostly via Pearce which is like asking Maradona to go in goal, Naby should have started if that was the plan.

Basic human psychology dictates that at 0-1 in an important match when confidence is low that the team will sit deeper as the game wears on. The subs weren’t the main reason for that, it was the circumstances.If we were 2-0 up, as we should’ve been, it would have been different. 1 goal per game is not enough to win matches regularly.0

I think Sarr came on to give us some more height in defending their long throws. On balance and now I have calmed down, disappointed but not surprised. A 2-1 was probably a fair result in my eyes but considering the pen it could have been far worse.
Still smallest budget, off field bullsoap and losing your best striker mean for me were still above where we should be.2 -

That is a brutal blow. We aren't down, but the problems remain.
Every season three clubs aren't good enough to stay up. Our squad was probably the weakest throughout the season. Bowyer said fourth bottom or higher was his goal.
To stay out of the bottom three we need to gain more points and have two games left. Is it likely, no. Is it possible, yes.
Do we still trust Bowyer? I think I trust him, but the players have shown over 44 games that they aren't really good enough for this division.

Lot's been said about the substitutions already, but those three subs at 77 minutes felt in hindsight like something out of the current "non-competitive" kids football where big squads get rotated just to give everyone a run about. Should've been out of sight before that with McGeady hitting the post and Camp making a great save at point blank but it just feels like we got to 20 minutes before the end and thought sod it, one will have to do then.
Sure Bowyer will believe he wasn't being too defensive because he brought on Morgan who's been criticised for his defensive work. So frustrating that in both this game and the Brentford game our goal has come from link-up play between Williams and Doughty and in both games both have been hooked.
Some irony that both of those players were kept on longer than usual meaning we probably won't see them on Saturday and we only have one point to show for it.1 -
We had 3 decent efforts in the 2nd half. One we scored, one hit the post, one was well saved.
After the subs in the 77th minute, it was all Birmingham

The big upside of supporting this club is the supporters. We deserve better than what we've had in the last few years, especially the last few months. Ironically, our best hope is that Stoke beat Brentford meaning that Leeds win promotion just before their last game.
If we can pull off a shock at Leeds, Huddersfield have two tough games against West Bromwich Albion and Millwall. It's not over yet.
I don't necessarily believe it will happen but it's not beyond the reach of this league's random nature.

You can't say the players are shit on the one hand and then expect them not to make genuine mistakes. You can point at the manager, the substitutions, the referees, anything you like. The only positive spin i can put on the current situation is that when we were sat in the relegation zone during lockdown not knowing if the season would even restart, if you'd said to us "beat Wigan in your last home game and you'll stay up" every single Charlton fan would've taken that.
They're on a great run and their confidence will be sky high, but they're certainly not unbeatable. They only drew 0-0 at Barnsley last week.10 -

Barnsley are gone. If we beat Wigan they can't catch us. Luton or Hull will drop points or both if they draw so a win against Wigan would almost certainly keep us up. Sadly, I can't see it. Even if we start well and take the lead, it will end up backs to the wall holding on to what we have!
Chris Wilder effectively said the fact that Championship managers were bottlers helped Sheffield United get promotion and Bowyer has proven his point this season. I don't enjoy saying it but it is plain to see.4 -

Gutting but no change. Beat Wigan we stay up, providing Barnsley do no better than draw tomorrow. Even had we won tonight, lose to Wigan Saturday we were in the brown stuff. Mission Wigan, and if the mcgeady that played tonight turns up we have got a chance.1

I'm 100% behind Bowyer still but he still deserves criticism. This just keeps happening but we never seem to learn from it. Partly Bonne has to score from two yards out which he can't do much about, but it came at a time of one of our best spells of the game when we were getting forward and having a few chances and we kill that spark.
Most infuriating thing to see in football is a team set up defensively and timewasting, then that same incredibly defensive set up and line up suddenly have to push forward for a goal.

"Bottling it" for me means you didn't stand up to be counted. You didn't put your head in where it hurts. You let your team mates down because you didn't fancy it or weren't up for it.
Hand on heart I really don't think you can say that about any of our squad, or the manager.
There's a lack of quality which leads to mistakes. But they're honest mistakes, genuine mistakes from people that are doing all they can and not through lack of effort. They are just falling short and you can see how it's hurting them.
That's nothing to do with "bottling it" in my book, which is why I objected to the comment.14
