Being able to just walk up to a turnstile, pay and go in.
  • Or the one guy with a "transistor radio" at the ground.

Having the players jump up to the side of the East Stand and sign autographs

Chris Powell | Simon Royce just two that I remember doing it from years ago - Now they have to indicate to the kids that they can only do it after the game when I'm sure most parents want to just head off home

Was the one aspect I quite liked in League One as remember Ben Hamer / John Sullivan chatting with fans at an away game when they were taking in turns to do their warm up drills

Hopping on the bus to the ground and finding yourself sitting next to the star centre forward (ok maybe I'm not quite that old 😀).
  • 3pm kick offs.

    Semi finals at neutral venues.

Brian Moore was a real class act. And despite being a Gill, I always felt he had a soft spot for Charlton.

Being able to drink on the terraces.  Better for those that like a drink and those that don't, because the half time rush wasn't as intense.

Half times being displayed by the man in the white coat with the box of numbers, about ten minutes before the end of the match.
  • Being on holiday abroad in Spain as a child and having to wait until the next afternoon after the game for the English newspapers to hit the shelves so i could find out the football results.

Cerise and orange flags for the linesmen (who were called linesmen and not assistant referees/linos)

Before the big screen we had a girl wearing a sash that walked around the edge of the pitch displaying the raffle numbers.

Picking up a news paper and finding out transfers that way - not 3 days before it happens.

transfers being able to happen up until the old deadline day (think it was towards the end of March)

Only one game being on live tv each week.

Games being played in pissing rain and thick mud. I remember a game at Upton Park circa 88 it pissed down and there were puddles all over the pitch - some tackles that were practically GBH we’re flying in.

Old style grounds - St Andrews, Ayresome Park, Roker Park etc etc.

Football was so much better in the 80’s.
