You get The Animals, not The Fish, you get The Herd, not The Shoal.

Henry Cow. What's wrong with Henry Cod?

What have we got against fish?

Sounds like working through problems rather than overcoming them.

  • If Bowyer gets us promoted while the old yellow toothed wankstain is still running the club into the ground it will rate as probably the best performance ever by a Charlton manager.

No he'd just be a very unusual dog...

Thanks for these clues, @JamesSeed - I am sure everyone has worked this out, but, if not, here is the decipher.

Its surprising how few bands are named after fish.

"Its..." has an apostrophe missing. This means we are obviously missing something.

"...surprising how few..." is obviously a reference to the consortium and how, while we are thinking there are several names that have failed the EFL fit and proper test, there are in fact surprisingly few members in the consortium now. And maybe there's something else that's "surprising".

"...bands are...". This was a clever one. Because it's not "bands are", it's "banned sarr". Where is Nabby Sarr banned from playing? Well, as Charlton now has his registration, he is no longer able to play for his previous club: Sporting Lisbon.

"...named..." This is interesting. Because it confirms that we are looking for a name, or at least a set of information that helps us identify the buyer and when the deal will go through. Maybe we can find the name of the buyer's country and the date the deal will go through?

"...after fish". Well, Mark Fish played in a famous Charlton defence, "Brown Fish Costa Fortune". So we are looking at Costa and Fortune. Jorge Costa has been without a club since 25 May. And Jon Fortune. Who (as everyone will remember) committed his future to Charlton, despite agreeing terms with Stoke, after a match against Sporting Braga.

Three solid gold references to Portugal. Sporting Lisbon, Sporting Braga and the former Portguese defender Jorge Costa.

So, we need to know what the Portugal reference is. Especially if it is "surprising". So we need to know something more about football in Portugal. Well, what was the last competition Portugal played in? The World Cup, right? Well that's not "surprising" enough. So we need to look elsewhere. What was the last international football tournament Portugal played in, in Portugal? Yes! The Algarve Cup. So we need to know something about the the third-place match, as Portugal was referred to three times. Who played in that match? Portugal. And who did they beat in the third-place playoff? Australia. It was a woman's tournament - "surprising", right?

So there we have it. "Its" tells us we have been missing something. "surprising how few" confirms that the EFL issue will be removed simply because there are now fewer members of the consortium. "bands are" introduces the first of three Portuguese references. "after fish" confirms the Portuguese reference, which gives away the fact we are looking at Australia.

So the Australian consortium *will* buy Charlton. James Seed has confirmed it.

Oh yes, one more thing. The date. That's easy. Jon Fortune's birthday - 23 August. But, remember the reference to Jorge Costa's last job ending on 25 May this year? That was exactly twenty years after the playoff match against Sunderland. So take that twenty off the 23 and we get 3/ The third of August. Next Friday.

Conclusive proof from @JamesSeed - the Australian deal will be confirmed at the end of next week.

That was too easy, James. You're slipping.
    Work of genius mate.

But actually it was much simpler than that:
The club *surprisingly* costa fortune. They were so busy *fishing* for support from a disillusioned fan base that they didn't notice that Abramovich has links with Chelsea.
Once the ELF eventually realised as well, it was too late to replace his missing billions. So they've been waiting around for Roland, in the absence of a series one bidder, to beg them to take the club off his hands as, 'huh I'm not made of money huh.'
With luck that should be some time in 2020.

Yeah, exactly. Only three, and how many bands are there exactly?

ok but please don’t shoot the messenger:

GM anticipating ‘a difficult two weeks ahead’.

But also that ‘it’ll all be worthwhile’.

Which is slightly depressing if you hoped it would happen before the start of the season, but positive if you thought it wouldn’t happen this season at all, or they were pulling out.

I’m sure he’d want to apologise for not being able to share any proper details, but if you start breaking NDAs you immediately lose all business credibility.

[*turns off phone, dives for cover*]

    PS 16/1 is poor value.

Unfortunately, none of your deadlines have been remotely accurate before.

And I'm not expecting this one to be any different...
Sorry EastStand, I haven't come up with any deadlines. 'Difficult couple of weeks' doesn't mean they're buying the club in two weeks. Far from it.
May 18th they said they thought it would be sorted the following week, and I advised caution. But that was their honest assessment. If you dont want to read this stuff perhaps avoid the thread.

Oh good, I thought they were just all sitting around over tea and cake and just hoping it would come good in the end all by itself.
    You do wonder sometimes.

I'm glad they're just sitting there playing a board game. Talk about get your priorities wrong.

sorry, someone did say that the fish puns are starting to repeat on this thread.

eventually, I suppose and if RD doesn't sell, every word ever used in a Shakespeare play will have appeared somewhere on this thread.
