100% Leaburn - had a great touch and brain just didn't have the physique to be an explosive striker - Magennis has the opposite - all physique, limited ability.1

The memory may have dimmed over time but I’ll always maintain that I witnessed Carlo score a Barnes-in-Brazil-esque goal away at Southend in a 2-0 win. Sublime. Possibly.1

Carl Leaburn over Josh but both players were false number 9's. Leaburn only scored 1 goal every 7 matches. The only time he got in double figures for a season was with Rob Lee's help. Times are so bad that the rose coloured glasses are out. Carl was a lovely fella and foil for a goalscorer but non scoring strikers just put more pressure on the midfield.0

I know this sounds stupid but Leaburn would have been possibly a really great player if he was shorter. He was tall so used for his height but he had a lovely touch and could dribble but had no pace. Very underrated footballer.0

I guess that's the nature of football, if you like the person you remember the good bits, if you don't like them, you remember the bad bits. Pardew (a midfielder) has much better goalscoring stats than Leaburn, but because he's a **** it's been forgotten!

Pardew scored the winner for us in a 4-3 win against Newcastle after being 3 nil down, that match has been erased from history because of old big nose.1

Carl was a target man as the ball stuck with him (sometimes) Josh always tries hard but his first touch is more erratic. Plus lone striker when not a natural goal scorer is tough going. (For fans as well as Josh)shine166 said:

Leaburn only got better when Garry Nelson joined the club in 1991 and he had an experienced head that worked the channels and talked the big man through a game plus Curbishley and Gritt telling the wide players to put balls on Carlo's head. 14 goals that season was the break through for him.shine166 said:

Partly agree, bus disagree if Magennis played in a two he'd be as good as Leaburn. Leaburn's all round play, his ability to hold up the ball was far superior to Magennis although i've no doubt if you put the ball on Magennis's head 6 yards out he'll score. Magennis is playing in a very poor league, Leaburn would have scored a lot more in this division and been a very decent player.shirty5 said:

Leaburn got better service though. In 91/92 we had Robert Lee on one side and Colin Walsh on the other, 2 first division/PL standard wide midfield players, plus the likes of Scott Minto and Garry Nelson.Rob7Lee said:

Magennis isn't as good in the air as Leaburn (he isn't as good at finding space and attacking space) but he's definitely better on the floor. Leaburn for a striker had a very weak shot.
