Zidane coming in for a lot of stick here for taking Ronaldo off when they were two one up and somewhat bizarrely said after the game that the league title is still not out of reach for them. If Barcelona best Espanyol tonight they will be 21 points in front of Real, the biggest gap for 90 years.
Meanwhile Atletico play their closest rival tonight for second place, Valencia. After a slightly slow start at the new stadium Simeone has got Atletico in gear again and now with Diego Costa back and without the demands of Champions League football they are looking good for a runner-up position and possible Europa League win. Being the top team again in Madrid for the first time since 2014 will mean a lot as Real fans tend to look down on them but arguably Atletico have more actual support in the capital.1 -

I think they will be delighted just to stay up to be honest. Other teams in Catalunya find it very hard to compete with Barcelona dominating the region, and Girona are really a very small team with a small stadium and fanbase.paulie8290 said:

They would need to make huge progress to get into Europe and in reality the Abu Dhabi ownership will probably see them as being a farm team for Man City rather than European contenders in their own right.0 -
Genuinely don't see it like that and i'm sure that's not City football group's aim. They've bought Girona as a team playing at a good level to send their best kids too and others like the brazilian they've sent there (whose name i forget) to help him settle into european football.paulie8290 said:

I’d like to go to the Rayo Vallecano game (saw them play at Barcelona many moons ago) but I highly doubt Mrs Otto will be too keen! I hope to go to Athletico Madrid to do the stadium tour as well.

Yes, the Calderon is still standing but they plan to knock it down in the next year. I think they still have the museum there, which is really interesting. Still haven't been to the new stadium, the Wanda Metropolitano, as it is so far out of town but it looks amazing and hope to get there soon. I mainly get to third division games in Madrid, which is quite fitting for a Charlton fan!4

As a Depor fan, horrified by this. I cannot see what basis he got the appointment - they needed Warnock or a Spanish equivalent. Incredible to think they are gonna get relegated only 6 years ago or so they had mega money and people thought they woukd challenge at the top of La Liga for years0 -

If Huesca can stay top of the second division and get into the top league this season it will continue a surprising trend of small clubs punching well above their weight, like Girona, Eibar and Leganes. Some of the historical big names like Real Zaragoza, Racing Santander and Real Valladolid have found themselves left behind despite having much bigger fanbases.0 -

Real Madrid can be ridiculously expensive, which is why most locals can't afford to go. Atletico is more reasonably priced although their tickets have also gone up since the move to the new stadium.0

Copa del Rey semi-final second legs today and tomorrow, starting with Sevilla-Leganes which is 1-1 from the first leg then Valencia-Barcelona tomorrow night, with Barca one nil up from the first leg. A Sevilla v Valencia final would be great but just hoping that Barca don't win it again, at least for a bit of variety: they have won the last three finals.0
