On our way to becoming a joyless world.

If this was one of the few things bringing you joy I have got some great news about other websites on the internet!
Do you know of anywhere they pixelate their tits and growler?
The reason I ask is that it wouldn't seem right to view something of that nature in case they were supplementing their policewomen's pay cheque.

To be fair, I've not seen the woman at the bottom/on the left at the darts.

But hey you might be on to something here. It would be brilliant if we got lollypop ladies acting as walk ons at next years PDC.

It isn't a big deal and there are inconsistencies we can all identify, but ultimately it does objectify women and what it adds to the sport is questionable. The decisions seem to have been made by the respective sports for those reasons.

So what about Sky Sports and all the good looking women on there, purely for their looks and for blokes to ogle.

Weather girls, add them to the list. You could go on forever.

Aren't the women on Sky Sports, like their male colleagues, journalists?

I assumed the same of "weather girls".
The weather boys are meteorologists, the weather girls are not - apparently.

Find it all a bit pathetic but sadly it’s the way things are going.

Of course the use of ‘glamour girls’ are not necessary to any sporting occasion. But then again nor are MC’s, music, fireworks, mascots, dancers, hospitality, food and drinks, commentators and all other aspects that add to ‘the package’, whether that’s attending ot or watching at home.

We are heading for an age of fear and blandness. Let’s hope equality really is applied. I look forward to watching a prime time family entertainment programme like Take Me Out where a bloke doesn’t have to take his shirt off for 30 women to ogle and pass comment on his body. Or Loose Women where they have the butlers in the buff on.

But that’s all a bit of harmless fun, isn’t it?

It's very shit the other way round too, AFKA. The problem is, however, more widespread when it comes to women - and it's also worth considering men would much more easily be able to put a stop to any sexist overtures than women (physical power etc).

This is why misogyny is IMO worse - women don't feel powerful enough, in a sort of primal sense, to be able to stop it. It's changing, though, and that can only be a good thing.
This hardly applies to the girls at the darts or F1 though does it because by the looks of it they enjoy what they do. Turing up at an event once a week, getting glammed up, parading around and being admired and getting paid for it is not the same as going into the office 5 x days a week and doing a job the guy sitting next to you gets paid double for.

F1 & the darts have dropped the girls because of pressure form the PC brigade and what is going on in the film industry.

People are running scared and as AFKA said we are heading into fear and blandness when we should be having a bit of fun.

I am sick to death of people being offended on my behalf.

I assume the days are numbered for Rachel Riley on Countdown?

Late's face it, a cheapo computer could do her job, so what's she there for?

Correct. It's about time that jobs that can be automated are realised. Who cares about the knock on effect? All she does is press a button, after all.

It's not like she's done 5 years of driving around a city to build her familiarity and knowledge of said city up. She's blagged it with an earpiece for far too long.
  • Christ, for all those justifying this decision, I presume you also want most female group/artist to change their acts too. After all, children watch them and some of them really do look like prostitutes when performing.

I work with a ‘grid girl’. She works in my office but occasionally does it part time, plus some occasional modelling.

She has no need to do it but loves it. Loves the scene, the racers, travelling around, getting glammed up. She’s never once felt uncomfortable.

But a few people have decided her opinion doesn’t count and she can’t make her own decisions. Remind me who the sexists are again.

AKA Bartram bang on the money. Where does this ‘being offended on behalf of others’ culture end?? I hate to think how sanitised our world will be in another 10 years!

A few people have hit the nail on the head here, why has nobody thought to ask the women who do this for their opinion on the matter?

For all the steps forward the world and society has taken forwards with equality and recognising diversity there is always something like this that is done to smash those advances back 40 years. The male presenters at the BBC is another, they have to take a pay cut, what? To go down to the women's level? Why could the female presenters doing identical jobs be paid the same?

I.coukdnt give two shits about a woman walking down an aisle with a darts player, it matters not to me, nobody is going to convince me Barry Hearn has got women's rights and feminism at the top of his priority list all of a sudden neither sky sports! Let's look at sky sports news shall we, all of the female presenters are there purely for their appearance keep in mind the channel is essentially one long advertisement for whatever sky have an investment in anyway.

It's not lost on me in all this the head of OFCOM is in her role not because she is any good or more knowledgeable or more forward thinking or a genuine leader but because of positive discrimination, she is fucking hopeless and there are people, male and female, within the industry who are far more capable than her at that particular role. She is ticking all the right boxes as far as political demographic box ticking goes.

I look forward to the day when catwalk models no longer exist and let's be honest, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell are not intelligent women, they are women who have the 'right' skin, hair, bone structure, whatever but they are the epitome of objectification of women and if this is what the world wants to stop then great but how about we ask those involved, those who are top of their field of industry of walking a few yards looking pretty. Like the women who do that at the darts.

Cheerleaders too, let's get rid of them, forget the fact they will have practised and practised for most of their lives to do what they do.

This isn't about treating women equally, it's about trying to be trendy and appeasing an ever growing, rabid minority who see it as their duty in life to be professionally offended and generally be a fucking nuisance.

It doesn't help that a worrying amount of women ironically look up to appalling human beings like Kim Kardashian who is famous for having a dad or a step dad who defended and somehow got a man away with murder, who regularly is seen pulling her tits out on that notoriously family friendly forum Twitter and is an absolute mega star. And Jordan, fucking hell a woman who has sold her and her kids privacy for a pound note is seen as an aspirational figure, along with all the other dead between the ears morons from any number of reality tv shows. They are so thick, so, so thick yet they are adored by young women.

So no, I don't think it's advancing gender equality banning walk on girls from the darts, formula one or any other sport that needs shit like that. It makes no difference to me whether or not they are there, I'll still only watch both sports once a year. The hypocrisy is what aggravates me

It hasn't actually been "banned" by anyone has it? It seems to me as if it's a business decision due to a gradual changing of attitudes over the years which now means that rather than the girls being considered an attraction as they were in the past, they are now considered to be something they may put people (particular sponsors) off of being associated with the sport.

I'm astonished that people are comparing "Grid Girls" with musicians and/or Rachel Riley and don't get why one is objectification and the others aren't. It's almost as though they don't understand the problem in the first place...

Yeah its spot on in a way that he's summed the situation up, but everyone is debating if they think its right or not

From the context that those agreeing with it were behind it. Chip on the shoulder crap - the sports in question made a decision without a gun to their heads and things change.

Yeah one on the right is much more Harvester!!
  • Darts wont be the same tonight, going to proper ruin my evening without the obligatory pre-match wank .....
  • Some belting comments, mainly from people who claim not to care. The Sex industry isn't closing down, if you're into that and which red blooded male isn't? There's places for it. Female pornstars earn more than men btw and do less work! Funny enough if you ask pornstars if they enjoy their job they'll say yes as well, who is claiming they don't? Watching 2 people, especially females, beat each other from piller to post followed by people wolf whistling at women with their arses hanging out waving cards is pretty creepy. Darts with the dresses and sashes and that formula one lady posted above I don't see the issue with. Introducing ring men could be an alternative route to inequality of so many people aren't please with this.
  • F1 and Darts maybe want to be taken a bit more seriously - the pit girls and walk on girls look like a 70s time warp. I've never understood their purpose.
