I'm going to have an arbitrary situation here so bear with me. Say there are 10 people to be interviewed for a job. Previously, all 10 were white. Now it's 9 white people and 1 non-white. We are seeing a 10% decrease in white candidacy, but an [infinite]% increase in BAME candidacy. That's still overwhelmingly in favour of the white people.
And yet, trying to level the playing field is racist. Fucking lol

And how is that the logical conclusion? I would have thought the aim (rather than logical conclusion) is to ensure an equal playing field. Because there sure as hell isn't one now.

I think the Rooney Rule would be a great thing in football. The ratio of black managers to black players is appalling. I'd go further and make it mandatory that a significant percentage of youth and assistant first team coaches were also black.1

This is really simple, England, or club X were going to interview 10 white guys, the Rooney rule says the have to interview at least 1 BAME candidate, so now they interview 11 guys. How has this disadvantaged anyone? How can anybody sane argue against this and formulate complex logical loops to make it somehow discriminatory against the white candidates?
Just go and get t-shirts that say "I'm not racist, but... Oh, wait, I am racist" and stop arguing that the Rooney rule is racist.10 -

I have done my best not to fall into outrage at what, on the surface headline seems another example of positive discrimination.
One part of me is annoyed that this needs to be done and the other part of me is glad it's being done.
Annoyingly I remember examples of this happening at my particular place of work and it being an unmitigated disaster and an insult to diversity and my own intelligence.
All through the nonsense that was the last presidential election we heard "wouldn't it be great to see a woman president" and as much as I am on the side of disliking both candidates, that pissed me off. It's actually un-diverse as you can get, we seem to quietly make strides in a lot of society in terms of diversity then take enormous leaps back by pointing and saying "look a black president" as if that was all Obama had going for him, like that episode of the office and the big black cock joke.
And something that is truly unforgivable, the BBC persisting with citizen Khan
I was part eavesdropping and part half heartedly taking part in a rabbit in my local about Theresa May. One of the barmaids was adamant she was fantastic, when I heard this I asked her why she thought that and genuinely she couldn't give me anything beyond "she's a woman". No mention of the mess she is making of being in government, the fact she is has a chronic medical condition that makes her being PM harder than it has to be, the fact that as home Secretary she has systematically destroyed police resourcing and moral, and many other things, some positive, lots negative that I wont bore you with but you get my point.
I fully accept nudges have to be nudged and legislation needs to be in place to prevent discrimination however we can never lose sight of the need to get the best person for the job as opposed to the right tick in the box which just insults everyone6 - Sponsored links:

Historical racism in the game automatically means that BAME candidates are ignored, as opposed to not being qualified or having the required experience that the hiring club highlight as being a prerequisite of any applicant that is to be successful, in favour of a white man.1 -

Simple google will do. Football chairman are well known for documenting racist and border-line illegal hiring policies and then putting those documents in easily accessible public places online.Big_Bad_World said:

It isn't even necessarily overt racism that this is hoping to solve. People naturally gravitate towards people that look like they do. This goes for skin colour, gender, even the way you dress. Hence why in courts potential jurors are sometimes sent back to the waiting room on the basis of how they look (ie a smartly dressed white man may not be chosen to serve on a jury of a homeless non-white).1

You don't seem to think there's a problem with racism in football so fair enough. The FA has taken the same attitude up to now but at least there seems now to be recognition that change is needed.
If any changes open up access and make it fairer then what's your problem? Providing the best candidate gets the job then what's the issue? If the best candidate doesn't get the job becausr of their skin colour or ethnic background then is that something to be celebrated?
