Killie were largely relegation threatened cannon fodder last season so 1 in 3 for a striker is not bad. That said the general standard in Scotland is awful. I'm Scottish so I can say so without being racist! I supported Killie as a boy and take an (increasingly distant) interest in their fortunes. Killie fans on magennis were lukewarm at best last year. If he's cheap he might be a useful squad member but to be blunt, with a moneybags owner im really hoping for better than this, even in league 1. That Chris Brown whose just signed for Bury tore us a new one at the Valley for Preston a few years ago. Should have signed him for peanuts.

I take it you've seen him play?

Yeah I watched quite a few Northern Ireland qualifiers for the Euros.

This "judge him when he plays for us" attitude happens every Summer and more often than not, the previous opinion held of a player seems to be right. Particularly remember it when people were being critical of Roger Johnson...

Judge him when he plays for us doesn't seem to translate to the boards view of the England squad either when someone new is or isn't called up. Of course you will have opinions on players and not always agree with the coach. I can't not remember him looking like a donkey the majority of the time and give him a completely new slate and assume what I've seen has been wrong.
Of course it's been proven right in the last few seasons given the number of poor signings.

Before that Kermorgant was seen as a bad signing. Morrison had to prove himself to many after struggling at Sheff Wed. There were even some saying they didn't want BWP after we were first linked with him. I'm sure there are more examples.

Is he so bad that he couldn't even do a job as a squad player in League One? A back up target man doesn't have to be a 20+ goal a season striker to add something to the team.

What this probably does show is after bringing in Ajose and Novak that RD won't spend much on a third choice striker.

To me this season feels more like 2010/11 under Parky where players came in to "do a job" rather than to build a strong squad that could win the title like in 2011/12.

Happy to provide translation services for anyone who needs them!!! The gist is that he thinks Magennis is a prick!

'I was a better player in my day'

Don't let Katrien see this video.
  • Leicester fans really didnt rate Kermorgant did they...

Just because a player doesnt work out for one team doesnt mean they wont work out for another.

Ooo I'll add David Button / Simon Francis / Alan McCormack to prove my point just that little bit more... Will fans ever learn?

They did until the playoff penalty miss. I think you're stretching.

Okay then but what about the other players I mentioned? ;)
  • Who had a problem with David Button?

A lot of Leicester fans liked Kermorgant and thought he was harshly dealt with because of the penalty and again they felt Morrison was a good player at that level when we got him.

What is doing a job though? Spending 100k of our seemingly short transfer budget to stick on to win a couple of headers?

Maybe you are right on your last line but that seems absolutely awful to me, spending money on players you'd want to be rid of within a season. Didn't really work when we had to rely on Paul Benson when BWP went down did it? You get players who could be first teamers then the competition causes a good player to become a back-up, not get in a shit player to be a back-up who then isn't good enough when called upon.

A player who is technically deficient isn't suddenly going to work better in a new environment or league unless his physicality is so good that it over powers the opposition and if he can't do that at Kilmarnock why is that going to happen now in League One?

Josh Magennis is not in Kilmarnock's squad. I wonder if the fee has been agreed.

That made laugh so much I watched it again but with the subtitles on so I could understand more of what he said. However the subtitles made it even funnier as they bare very little relation to what he said.

Having just watched us beaten by a Bury team comprised of battering ram forwards, battering ram midfielders and battering ram defenders perhaps Slade knows what you need in this league.

not sure you should mention his name in the same sentence as Yann, 'interesting' video clips, he can turn and shoot at least.. reminds me a bit of of Matt Svenson (thinks he's Pele, but clearly isn't)

Apparently we've had three bids rejected and won't be going back a forth time: http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36999711

Our bid seems fair given his limited pedigree and the fact he is in the last year of his contract. If it's not enough for Killie, then it's fair enough we're walking away. Whether we have the budget of Man City or Bangor City, there's no reason to pay over the odds for players, especially when they're nothing out of the ordinary like this fella.

Josh - don't sign. You would be better off unemployed.
  • I thought we were scraping the barrel with this signing, I'm worried about who our next target is
