Gillingham did a wonderful job getting Jay Emmanuel-Thomas for the season. Looks like a world beater at this level. Cracking signing. We should have made it part of the Cousins deal that we got him on loan.
He's scored a couple at this level - but I would be surprised if he maintains that. He's always looked guff whenever we have played against him and I don't think it's any different now.
Scored and did well for Bristol City at this level. Far more proven player than Bokata
And Gills have also got Waggy to give him a service....
We have been very patient waiting for this to happen, did you see how patient we were? Very patient. We have the patience of a saint you know. We don't like to rush things here we like to be patient.
Josh Magennis is a good professional and a decent guy. He will be sorely missed by Kilmarnock if he goes. Ironically enough I was playing golf yesterday with a Killie fan and mentioned he could be a good buy for Charlton.
He is not necessarily a great footballer, but has ability and WILL RUN ALL DAY. He has great nuisance value and has the potential to be a 'Valley' favourite. For the money mentioned, he is well worth a punt.

Yeah, we've showed great patience getting a converted goalkeeper from a lower table Scottish Premiership side who averages 1 in 6. A real coup.
Don't think we're entitled to be that choosy on the striker front. Wall landed a 6'6" lad from Folkestone Invicta. Young and not yet very good with his head. That's what I call a target man. We need an Iwelumo. Never forget the winner at So'ton.

IIRC they wanted to get shot of him towards the end as he was lazy and uninterested. QPR signing him was a bonus for them and he turned out to be turd there too. Presumably he's in last chance saloon so is trying to impress but could well fall into his old habits.
I actually wanted us to sign him when he left Ipswich but think Brizzle paid decent money for him and he was out of our reach.
JET is an enigma, he always looks like having all the talent in the world but seems to only apply it in the first couple of months every season. Should be playing at a higher level in all honesty, but only he really knows why he isn't
Having just watched us beaten by a Bury team comprised of battering ram forwards, battering ram midfielders and battering ram defenders perhaps Slade knows what you need in this league.
So it looks like some people have decided he is shit already before he has kicked a ball in anger. Pathetic
Perhaps we don't deserve success.
It's not that I think he's shit, I just expect he'll be limited. I fear that with our lack of ball playing midfielders or defenders for that matter, and in signing a lump of a center forward, we're just going to be playing direct, back to front football. The problem is, a lot of teams in this division do that, and I don't see us being better at it than most teams. Also, who is going to provide someone like Mcgennis service?
I've been underwhelmed by all of Slade's signings with the exception of Rudd (not counting Ajose and Holmes as they were already lined up, Novak is a draw as he was lined up but Slade convinced him to come). Our team is crying out for creativity on the flanks and in midfield, but that is yet to be addressed.
Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of Josh Magennis from Kilmarnock for an undisclosed fee.
The Northern Irish striker becomes Manager Russell Slade’s eighth signing of the summer and has put pen to paper on a two-year deal in SE7.
Slade said: “Josh will give us a real physical presence up front. He has progressed his career over recent years and I see him as a late developer because the early part of his career, as many people will know, wasn’t as a forward.
“He has developed that, has got himself in his national team and featured in the Euros this summer. He can score a goal, has got pace, will bring plenty to us and will cause a lot of problems to back fours in this league.
“He was a target that we had been trying to get over the line for a few weeks. In fact, we had him done at one stage, but it didn’t happen because the goalposts were moved. Fair play to Katrien, she got round the table again and managed to get the deal over the line again. Sometimes you think you have got your man and then things can change but we dealt with that situation in a real professional manner and managed to get our man.”
Magennis began his career as a striker in Northern Ireland before becoming a goalkeeper. In 2008, while on the books of Cardiff City, he reverted to playing as a forward and signed his first professional contract a year later.
The 25-year-old made nine league appearances for the Bluebirds, and two during a loan spell at Grimsby Town, before then moving to Scotland to join Aberdeen.
While at Pittodrie, he bagged 10 league goals in 98 games and, following a short stint at St Mirren, made the switch to Kilmarnock. A full Northern Ireland international, Magennis notched 18 times in 72 matches – averaging a goal every four games.
Last October, he bagged the goal that booked his country’s place at this summer’s European Championships and played in all four of their games at the summer showpiece.

Sounds like Katrien was holding a gun to Slade's head here....

He will take our number nine shirt.
