Russell Slade

He's had an interesting managerial career.
Responsible for a number of relegation rescue jobs, stability and even Wembley play off games for a couple of clubs.
He seems a sound manager and motivator.
Intriguingly, he's never quite achieved a promotion.
Yet that is the task Katrien has publically outlined for him.

I Hope the local journos go after Katrien with the questions on control of player signings, as there is no way she will not be at this press conference attention seeking individual that she is.10

The man obviously has no respect for English football so why have any for him?3

I'm happy with the appointment . It's a change of direction from the owner which is good . Let's hope Slade gets to recrute his own players and RD doesn't use his network scouting system anymore.2

Good appointment - he certainly has the right experience for the job. I Hope he will remain 'his own man' and stand by his instincts when he makes decisions1

Sure he's a decent man. However, until the Belgians are gone, nothing changes. The key question on THursday will be over how much independence he has ... interesting they need three days to prepare him for the right answers ...1

I bet he quits before the start of the season

She is busy practising her toothy smile and prepared vague answers, along with soundbites about new beginnings, big budgets for League 1 and how fans need to back Slade.Ketman said:I Hope the local journos go after Katrien with the questions on control of player signings, as there is no way she will not be at this press conference attention seeking individual that she is.
If Slade turns to her and says "oh pipe down you silly cow" then the season-ticket boycott is off.3 - Sponsored links:

Is this our first Manager as opposed to Head Coach under the Belgians?0

This is a slight change in RDism as Slade is British and Manager, however more we don't know. If they he has control of recruitment it will be within a budget which they won't tell us but then neither would any other club.
I spose what I'm trying to say is the appointment is a step in the right direction and time will tell if our journey is in a new direction3 -
He has a good track record in the lower leagues. If he has full control over signings and who plays then it could be a decent enough move for us.2

Somewhere Nobby Vinegar is telling his missus to take her summer frocks out of a suitcase and start packing her winter gear instead...7

I hope CARD and non-members can get a short notice protest down to the press conference tomorrow. Really don't care who the manager is, he is just another puppet for working under this regime and you can just tell that Russell Slade is the spineless type.10

There are some seriously miserable people on here - This is the best managerial appointment we could have hoped for right now. Give him a chance.13

My good friend is a sports photographer, and I trust his judgement on the people he meets. He says that regardless of his football acumen, Slade is a really, really good guy. So there's that.10

Unless the owners change the way they want to run the playing side of things I think any Manager of ours is going to have his work cut out. Good luck anyway Russell0

Well my gast is well and truly flabbered! Didn't see that coming at all. Couldn't care less to be honest.1

I will not be stepping foot in The Valley until the owners are gone so not really fussed. I doubt Mr Slade will be there by the time I start attending again knowing these owners.2

That it is the best we can hope for - and don't disagree with that - only serves to underline what Roland and Daisy have done to the club.ProSt8 said:There are some seriously miserable people on here - This is the best managerial appointment we could have hoped for right now. Give him a chance.

A healthy CARD protest will make clear to Daisy that this appointment has not bought everyone off, and also let Russell Slade know, if he was in doubt, the scale of the task facing him.forzajuve_27 said:I hope CARD and non-members can get a short notice protest down to the press conference tomorrow. Time to get behind the team. Hope the players and Manger don't get booed this season before they are given a chance.8

Hopefully he can convince Tony Watt to stay. Hopefully Tony saw what Russell was capable of at Cardiff?2

No one (as far as i'm aware) is questioning Slade and we will all give him a chance. The question that has to be asked, and rightly so, is how much control he will actually have. Wilder walked away because he wasn't given control over signings, then 2-3 weeks later we give the job to another guy. It's inevitable the question over how much control he'll have is going to be asked.
If RD isn't giving Slade control over signings then let's face it, it doesn't really matter who we employ.4 -
I hadn't planned on booing any biblical animal feeding device.Redhenry said:Time to get behind the team. Hope the players and Manger don't get booed this season before they are given a chance.
But is this something you know that we don't? This year's gimmick is to have sheep and cows grazing on the pitch with a feeding trough in the corner in place of the sofa?3 -
Good appointment considering! but all the time Duch is running the show will Slade be able to manage???? im still NOT re-newing (protest) and to top that £500 for my seat now!!! for League1 Football !!! no way, I wont give the Belgian Prick my money.0
