Kashi update (of sorts)

It happened a day or two before the Fulham game.
As I mentioned in another thread, from personal experience, Achilles injuries can be incredibly difficult. When I was having tendinitis problems a few months ago, I could walk just about fine, but even breaking into a light job caused extreme discomfort. Surgery can often be high risk, as if there is a partial tear you risk making it worse. I know he had an operation, again just stabbing in the dark here.
As for transparency on injuries, I agree. From years of listening to/reading Sid Lowe, he has commented numerous times that in Spain they are very specific about injuries and expected time out. I believe the same is true in Germany as well But it's not just Charlton who don't do this, it seems to be a cultural things that injuries are vague and treated as week-to-week. Look at Arsenal.0 -
Kashi didn't have an operation (afaia).0

Hi Matt,
In every matchday programme we have a column with our head physio Erol Umut who provides a full injury update.
As we’ve previously reported, Ahmed Kashi has been struggling with an Achilles Tendon injury. He’s seen specialists who are trying to get to the bottom of the problem and I believe the intention is to try and fix the problem without the need for surgery.
Nothing has changed from that situation in the last couple of months so there’s not much more the club can do other than keep reporting the same thing. However, I’m told a decision on surgery was to be made at the end of last week, so the picture should be a little clearer come tomorrow.
Kind regards,
Olly

He was the best summer signing by a margin, Bauer has grown into his role. There is a massive gap in the story of Kashi's injury. Either there's a yawning gap in the Charlton medical/physio staff and budget meaning there was no meaningful diagnosis for far to long a period; or something not physical/non-football. Either is a scandal and either would fit the Douchebag's shoestring management policy0

I suspect the latter.StigThundercock said:He was the best summer signing by a margin, Bauer has grown into his role. There is a massive gap in the story of Kashi's injury. maybe it is just bad luck rather than a conspiracy
I have no inside info but maybe he just got a bad injury and its taking time to heal completely6 -
Great to get an update and I appreciate that it's better if a player can avoid surgery to recover. But. He's been out for three months. If they have now made a decision that surgery is needed, how long do they expect him to be out? If it's less than 3 months, why have we taken so long to get to this decision (assuming we have).charltonaddickedmatt said:Hi Matt,

Just smacks a little of dithering, which might be ok when you're working with a big squad, but we don't have that luxury and certainly not when it concerns a player who had quickly proven one of our best early performers.3 -
I'd honestly forgot he was our player, same with Ceballos.0

It just seems worrying that 2 players (Igor and Kashi), and potentially 2 of our best players, have had long running injuries that didn't seem that bad at first, but just seemed to drag on for ever. You never got the impression with either that the initial problem was immediately seen as a "Oh ****" moment, where the next time you see them they're bandaged up and clearly out for months or a year.Henry Irving said:maybe it is just bad luck rather than a conspiracy

After Igor it's understandable why everyone is a bit suspicious.2 -
I think Igor is different from Kashi.killerandflash said:

At least we could see Igor last season being played when clearly not fit because we didn't have any other strikers.
Kashi hasn't been rushed back and then broken done.
An Achilles operation should be a last resort not the first. Sometimes that might back fire in terms of time out but without knowing any more I don't see that they have done anything wrong. At the time not operating might have been the best option1 -

people forget just how quick kashi is. Whenever the opposition has the ball in our half he's going full pelt to close them down. It takes a massive strain on the body and even a small niggle can be excacerbated when you play like that. I fear kashi will have to adapt to slowing down/not closing down as much to stop the injuries which is a shame because that's his major strength.1

Ahmed Kashi's injury is Achilles-related. Due to be out for the rest of the season as he needs an operation. #cafc

blox, big loss to the team2

I blame the pitch ... It's too green and lush. If we'd a mudbath, he'd be fine.7

Shame. I thought he looked great for us. Ah well, get him on the slab and get the guy sorted. We can stick him in the Welcome Back to Division 1 Party.2

Had him as our best player at the start of the season. Held the team together. All fell apart since he's been out...0

Is this the operation he didn't have 2 months ago?

So that's now two Achilles injuries to important players that we've comedically mismanaged. Great.0

Thought we started to fall apart long before he got injured - 1 point in September with him in the side - I missed the Hull and QPR games and only saw him play against Rotherham and Huddersfield and he didn't look all that special in either of those gamescafc_harry said:Had him as our best player at the start of the season. I guess this was the risk...
Have the Operation and he'd be out for the season / Leave the operation for a few weeks and see how it progressed2 -
Everyone was injured in September though weren't they... Was a horrible month in that basisEast Kent Addick said:

Maybe he was already carrying the injury and was trying to play through it, when you saw him?East Kent Addick said:

That would impact on his performance.
