Are you saying that teams like Yeovil started the season hoping to reach the play-offs????Viewfinder said:
Rubbish. There isn't a single club in this league that doesn't start the season with ambitions for the play-offs. With our history, ground and level of support we ought to be right up there. It's a bit sad that some of our own supporters condone the penny-pinching of the owner and the low expectations of the manager.flyingkiwiDK said:

BP: I had a good chat with Roland. When the job as Charlton manager comes in you don't hesitate. #cafc

BP: Our ambition is to do better than last season #cafc
You need to learn to walk before you can run!
I'd say around 5-8 teams start the season looking to consolidate, just like we did two years ago.0 -
And how do you think he amassed that personal fortune, by chucking his money around like confetti. He seems determined not to become another basket case Football Club owner who turned a blind eye to the basic business principles of how they made their money in the first place :-0Viewfinder said:
The Kermorgant business, for example. Duchatelet's unequivocal declaration at his takeover press conference that he isn't going to spend big on transfers or wages. Reliance on youth - cheap to run. Peeters has been appointed instead of an experienced English manager - Chris Hughton, say - because he is inexpensive and easy to push around. Duchatelet's personal fortune is around £420m.ShootersHillGuru said:

Another colleague of mine with 20 years service departed from the club today. Best wishes for the future Jan.
No idea is they were made redundant or left for some other reason/s
Jan worked as a Facilities Management Co-ordinator and gave her all from an office in the bowels of the West Stand which was no more than a large cupboard. From time to time, she emerged for some fresh air....
Jan was heavily involved in the volunteering at The Valley over recent seasons inc the seat cleaning projects which is where we spoke about helping with the Pierre Bolangi Memorial Garden.
Whilst I do not know the full facts about Jan's redundancy, nor do I know who will be taking over her heavy workload, she will be sorely missed and IMHO deserved better than her ultimate fate.
A truly lovely lady whose sunny smile lit up the dark days of recent years.
Enjoy your "retirement", Jan. You SO deserve it !
Sorry to hear this and wish Jan all the very best.
Sometimes think there is clearing out going on for the sake of clearing out, rather than any grand strategy...
Only time will tell whether this was a "good" move by the powers that be or a big mistake....
Anyway best of luck to her I hope she finds something quickly or enjoys a break.0 -

There won't be a Facilities Management Co-ordinator, New bloke has recently been employed as Head of FM, so therefore, there is plenty of room for a Facilities Manager. Perhaps Jan, as a co-ordinator, isn't up to the role (or doesnt want it)

For a redundancy to be genuine, you must demonstrate that the employee’s job will no longer exist.'
Legally, no. May be a similar job, however.0 -

Who's moaning, I just see people being sympathetic towards someone who is being made redundant. Wish people would bore off with posts about fictional moaners!ValleyGary said:I see the same people moaning that there are redundancies are the same moaning that we only have 1 goalkeeper and no centre halves, and that we have too many loans.
This guy is a shrewd businessman, he knows where to makes cuts and where the money needs to be put into.
If he keeps on all staff and invests in the playing side, will the same people be moaning that the club is being run into debt??
Cant have it all I'm afraid, and although its sad that people are being made redundant, something needs to give.

Yes it did VG. Because you weren't the only one boring on about it!

It's a sad fact oflifebusiness these days. I expect the pennies being saved have gone towards the final contract offer to Poyet - so we know who to blame....2 -
You've only gotta look at The Newshopper's thread about why BP was hired, to see that some posters will get the nark or put snide remarks about the owners at any opportunity.Athletico Charlton said:Yes it did VG. Because you weren't the only one boring on about it!

I understand people's hesitation in being 100% behind the new regime, but some people are going to great lengths to put negativity into any noise being made by the club. It needs to be pointed out because its becoming a joke. There is no imagining it, its there for people to read.2 -

As with all takeovers, every employee will have been under scrutiny. If people are paying your salary they need to know what your job contributes. If you are not one of the millions who have experienced such a process over the past 30 years then consider yourself very fortunate. I witnessed it in UK banking and in the US leisure industry post 9/11. Watching people being escorted individually off the premises by two armed guards is not a sight you forget.
That said the process is not intended to either disrespect or challenge the talents or performance of current or past employees. Financially it is a matter of knowing, before you spend any money, what your cost base is, the value it brings and how you might improve both.
It is neither a cause for unfeeling comment or inappropriate condemnation.
It is within a business regularly losing £5mn per annum sadly a fact of life. My best wishes to the individual(s) involved
N.B. The inconvenient truth remains that in addition to funding the above shortfall someone recently shelled out £14mn to keep the business operating at all, while assuming responsibility for additional remaining debts of a comparable sum. Penny pinching? Yeah right!

Gary - your post above obviously had me in mind. And it's a fair point you make - on the face of it my comments are contradictory.ValleyGary said:I see the same people moaning that there are redundancies are the same moaning that we only have 1 goalkeeper and no centre halves, and that we have too many loans.

The point I would just ask you to consider is this. In the bigger scheme of things the savings being made by letting go some of the staff who will be leaving is small beer. For example, I know one person who will be leaving shortly whose salary will probably save about 4 or 5 weeks wages for Polish Pete. So in order that we can pay thousands and thousands of pounds in wages to hopeless signings like Thuram-Ulien, Nego, PP (and, in my opinion Reza (although let's not start that debate up again) we cut hard-working and loyal staff to pay for these players.
IMO, if you want to balance the books, clear out the dross players we have accumulated under RD, not people earning a small crust who have given many years service to the club.
Right, that's my lot on the subject. Different people have different views. It's just some, to my way of thinking, have no thoughts for other people.5 -
