No shocks there, which is a positive. Sounds like Bob knows what he's in for and what he intends to do, from RD's silence it seems he intends to be pretty hands-off, which helps I think. Hopefully we'll get contracts signed soon enough and crack on. The whole 'only one year' contract is not an issue with Bob, so that's good enough for me, no nefarious scheme just a different approach, if it works for them then let them get on with it.

I agree. Let us hopefully see some positive movements. We have Buyens, Ansah & probably Ventokele. Obviously we need centre backs, and general depth and quality overall. The one area I think we'll probably be covered in is up front, with talk of Gomez, plus PP, Church, Ventokele & Reza. Don't get me wrong, I definitely don't rate Church so would want better than him. PP might even go on loan to another network club if his performance reviews for the under 21s are anything to go by.

It's always difficult with these things as he probably doesn't want to over promise and under deliver. Plus he's not even taken a training session yet. I still think we're moving in the right direction.

New Charlton manager Bob Peeters says the Addicks are in negotiations with a number of transfer targets as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

Charlton have already signed Belgian midfielder Dani Buyens on loan from Standard Liege this summer, with FC Copenhagen striker Igor Vetokele also close to agreeing a deal in what’s shaping up to be a summer of change at The Valley.

The Addicks have lost goalkeeper Ben Hamer to Leicester and defender Dorian Dervite to Bolton, and Belgian coach Peeters, who took over from Jose Riga at Charlton last month, says they are working hard to bolster their squad.

“We can try to bring in some players because some have left Charlton,” Peeters said at his first press conference as Charlton manager on Monday.

“I think we have already done two good signings in Yoni Buyens and Igor Ventokele, and we have some more people in the pipeline.

“It’s looking good so far. We need to finish the deals and if we can bring in those players then we can do a good job this season.”

Asked how many players Charlton are hoping to bring in, Peeters said: “I cannot put a figure on that but we are talking to several players.

“Everybody knows Dervite has left, so we need to bring in one maybe two central defenders. Maybe we are looking at some options in central midfield and maybe another striker.”

On goalkeepers, Peeters added: “We are in negotiations with a few targets.”

Former Belgium international Peeters arrives at Charlton fresh from steering Waasland-Beveren to Belgian Jupiler Pro League survival.

The 40-year-old knows the Championship having spent two years at Millwall during his playing career, and he denied suggestions that he is only interested in signing players known to him and owner Roland Duchatelet from Belgium.

“When you come in as a new gaffer the first thing you do is look at players you know can do a job,” he said.

“I know Igor Vetokele very well, he’s a very talented player. And Yoni Buyens was one of the best midfielders in the Belgian league. He’s got a great engine and he can do the job in the Championship.

“So I’m looking for people who are suited to play in the Championship. The first two signings are Belgians, but we’re going to bring in some other players as well.”

Seems to be saying that Igor is done.

Lighten up, mate, it was clearly a joke about Karl Peeters looking a bit like Bob Pilkington.

He said all the right things, he comes over well and things seem to be moving with transfer but just as people would have said with Powell let's wait and see.

No wingers? Slightly disappointed at that.

Not sure Harriott and Wilson could cope with 48 games in a row...

    Redundant. Really disappointing.
  • But it's not H is it really yes he may bear a slight resemblance to our Karl but just underneath my post there's further evidence of everything happening at the club under Rd is a negative

The club is changing we may not like it but it doesn't mean it's wrong or the changes didn't need to happen

We need every one singing from the same sheet and progressing

Let Rd and BP make their mistakes

I reckon we are in for a real good season it just feels right and I know I ain't alone in that feeling

People are so caught up on not knowing the players coming in

But every player at some stage is an unknown

It is always sad when people lose their jobs through redundancy and should be a last resort. Twenty years' loyal service is to be celebrated and applauded.

However we are talking about a business that is losing significant amounts of money, and for sustainability it is vital that we attempt to balance the books.

Why do people get so worked up about people being made redundant. It happens all round the world and is no reason to be all anti rd

Because these people's lives revolved around CAFC, they contributed in some form however little to getting our club where it is. They are then chucked out the window as they are not required, it's not an easy thing to get over and affects their entire life from then on. And yes it does happen around the world

Very true, especially with comments made over the years about some members of Office staff being on 'Premiership wages'.

Anyway, no-one has confirmed it is redundancy, and at 20 years it wouldn't be cheap....perhaps 'Jan' wanted a change?

I see the same people moaning that there are redundancies are the same moaning that we only have 1 goalkeeper and no centre halves, and that we have too many loans.

This guy is a shrewd businessman, he knows where to makes cuts and where the money needs to be put into.

If he keeps on all staff and invests in the playing side, will the same people be moaning that the club is being run into debt??

Cant have it all I'm afraid, and although its sad that people are being made redundant, something needs to give.
