Me too - I think the only way I'm going to get it out of my head is to go into my garden and sing/clap it outloud about three times in a row.Mortimerician said:Sounded good yesterday. Can't recall a Charlton song being chanted for as long. Caught on quickly. Well done.

It's a weird song, but took off yesterday! Is it I followed 'them' or 'the'??0

Apparently its "I followed on" but both of your words make a whole lot more sense to be honest.boggzy said:It's a weird song, but took off yesterday! Is it I followed 'them' or 'the'??

errrm, ironic statement about how poetic football chants are.0

I thought it was
Since I was young
I followed them
Cafc
The team for me

Whether it is or not, I think it makes most sense & that's what we should sing.0

Was forced to sit in the Bournemouth end on Saturday and thought this sounded good. Well done lads.0

Unbelievable! We've only given it a couple or run outs, and Ajax have nicked it already.0

I think for me this song is like the Andy Hunt one. I absolutely hated it, but still ended up singing it all the time anyway.
Fair play though, it did go down well yesterday.0 -
I'm like that with Jason Donovan's Too Many Broken Hearts.....Brendan_O_Connell said:I think for me this song is like the Andy Hunt one. I absolutely hated it, but still ended up singing it all the time anyway.

I think it's a great chant but I agree with some others on here, the 'followed on' line is weird. Why not:
Since I was young
I've always sung
CAFC
The team for me0 -
Since I was young
I've hated blue
Got jumped by Chelsea
I followed through0 -
I like the Ajax drummers, do they give masterclasses?0

Similar scenes expected in Floyd Road on tuesday night0 -
Sice I was young
I was forced to follow
the cafc

you arsehole woah woah woah woah woah0 -

I really can't see what the issue is with lyrics. Its very apt for a lot of Charlton fans.
I followed on = carried on family tradition.
Think it's brilliant.0 -
Even your 'interpretation' doesn't really make that line work. As I said, I love the chant but would love it even more if it made sense. presumably the on in 'followed on' is there to scan better and also sort of rhyme with 'young'- just make it a better rhyme:Charltonparklane said:I really can't see what the issue is with lyrics.
