I reckon that the singing from the Covered End over the past couple of years is the best I've heard since the mid to late 1980s. No jeers, no voicing of (real) frustrations.... just passionate, honest, on-going support. Charlton fans have engaged in this on numerous occasions in recent times - including last Saturday - and the results have been tangible, immediate and very important. The players are energised and feel valued. Chris Powell has often spoken of the positive effect that the home support has on the players. Well done, all. Grumble quietly. Sing up, long and loud!
I have said on here many times that I only get to the valley 3 or 4 times a season. I would agree that the singing and general enthusiasm amongst the fans has improved tremendously over the past few years, for two reasons I would surmise 1) Our success over the past two seasons , 2) many more young people attending home games than was the case a few years back. It's nice to see/hear it
Lyrics to pre-existing songs (that aren't in Football) are much more likely to catch on and are still somewhat original if no other clubs are using them.
But how many good, catchy pre existing songs are out there that haven't already been used? Has to be ones that people already know.
Absolutely loads. Doesn't even have to have any words. Yeovil sing the theme tune to Rocky. Not particularly hard to get people doing, but everyone knows it and they're the only club that does it.
"We Sent The Palace Down" was thought up half way through the game and is still pretty original by our standards!

I like it , although do think we need to keep coming up with more new songs/ original songs , easier said than done , could do with some musicians who are Charlton fans coming up with a few , they've got to be easy to sing along too as well.
It gives some atmosphere, so what if a few other teams sing it? I'm not a huge fan of the ultra style stuff but would rather that than a quiet ground. It's not our main chant in the same way that 'chrissy powell's red army' isn't, and every club in the country sings a version of that. If you want an original song, stop complaining and write one.
There's about 3 or 4 new songs ready to go to be thrown out there, though too soon yet because of the introduction with this one. Don't want to over do it at once. Though when you say 'Original' song, do you mean a song that nobody has yet used in Football such as a pop song back in the 80's which is yet to be rewritten and converted to be sung in the terraces. Or a brand new tune written by a Charlton fan which could be used?
Personally I think the latter would be great.
I think either of those could be counted as original mate, but like others have said if it's a known tune people will probably be more likely to sing along. I'll sing along to anything, main reason I go football is the atmosphere

Very true! Any suggestions then?
Radio Gaga by Queen: "All we need is Cedric Evina" *clap clap* "Cedric Evina......Cedric what's new? Someone still loves you...."
Could have been useful during pre-season. And I don't know of any Queen songs currently in circulation in the Football world!
This is going to be one of those songs that in a few months time every bloody club in the land is going to be singing and the originality will be long gone.
Stuck in my head all week, would love to know what the new songs that are to weened in are!
Am hoping to get another one going by the end of the season. Maybe even by January depending how everyone feels about having another song in so soon after this one.
You can't have too many songs.
There was/is a Liverpool fan, that made up songs and he used to sing them in the pub beforehand, to practice & get everyone to learn them.

What a fantastic idea, not called the covered end choir for nuffing you know, even if the singing don't catch on, more time in the pubs not a bad idea! :/0
Out of interest though, what does "I followed on" mean. The song seems to have lots of Scots background - is that a phrase up there ?
I now know they're not, but on Saturday I thought the words were "I followed 'em" which made some sense at least. RD #2 ? Anyone apart from Ms Riley got some bangers?
Seperate thing altogether but does anyone fancy taking The D L Rigby flag to Watford with them? PM me.
How about " rhoys wiggins , gets the ball and runs it down the wing, takes a touch and then he crosses in , oh I believe in rhoys wiggins!" To the tune of "yesterday"?

Do do do do Bradley Pritchard perhaps?

I don't think you have to wait until January to ween them out, Watford away would be fine.

The Obika song was also very, very good.

Followed on = continued.
In cricket if you "follow on" you have to bat again/continue.
"We are Charlton from the Valley, we are Charlton from the Valley" to this tune
