A Koc & bull story?

  • The big turning point was Leeds' relegation. We all thought/hoped it would inject some sanity into football, make clubs spend less crazily and actually worry about sustainability. What actually happened was the big clubs made sure the new deals guaranteed them more money and a more uneven playing field, so none of them could ever suffer Leeds' fate.
  • My favourite source for understanding all the shite is Tom Bower's book "Broken Dreams", which details how the whole dirty deal was done. It is a marvellous book (albeit you will feel like jumping in the bath afterwards to wash away all the slime). It has a complete chapter on Harry Redknapp, with the mind-boggling stat that while at West Ham he signed 144 players in 7 years...
wow! Thats a new squad every season pretty much?

there are a few things in the book that would be regarded as libellous by 'Arry, he just seems to be taking rather a long time getting his lawyers onto the case.

  • So did I : - )

Thank you Sheffield and Curb-it. Would have been quite distressing to think anyone did : - )
I was certain it was you ;)

    Why is that, I wonder...

Yep. Bower reels off a few names and I remember thinking " yeah I remember that name...but he never actually played for 'em" . There was one who did play. Anyone remember Marco Boogers? He was so useless that GLR ( beloved forerunner to BBC London) developed a bit of a thing about him. they obviously smelt a rat- but he actually appeared, at least. Of course one of the 144 was Jermain Defoe, but sadly Bower doesn't delve into that.

nobody ever sued Bower. Nobody even kicked up a fuss. That's why I believe the book, and must get another copy, once Amazon start paying corporation tax. He also refers to Richard Murray as "saintly", in the context of being one of the few ready to share out the TV money more equally.

The rot started in the 70's (I think) when the so called big clubs stopped the away teams from receiving any revenue from gates.

True. Although I am not sure it was so early. I think Man U was the prime mover.

  • I don't have long but the basic principle is that Arsenal/Utd/Liverpool with the other bigger European clubs made the system that rewarded them much more then there league opponents, which helped make a gulf of finances, the system was so corrupt it has meant the only way for any team to on a regular basis change things is if they have a big investor, if they had never created the corrupt system then we would not have the need for clubs like City/Chelsea to do what they do.

Ideally we would not have them spending hundreds of millions on players but blame those clubs not City/Chelsea.

Defending those clubs is like the people who think we should all still bow to the royals, keep everyone in there place.

Hope that helps but im in a bit of a rush.

    Good points GGA

  • That reams is an absolute idiot, small minded bloke on a similar level as Ackworth in terms of the rubbish he spouts, hasn't got a clue.
  • No news just rumour.

cue Reams posting on into the valley for you to have a "face to face discussion" at his local to "sort out any misunderstandings"

Lay off Reams and ITTV. It only leads to silly insults and threats.

Actually Reams clearly does have a good source (and I think I know who it is as I once had dealings with them) and what he is being told is similar to what others are being told.

Nearly everything he has said on ITTV had been bouncing around in text messages or inboxs for a while before he posted it on his site.

Of course that doesn't make all or any of it true. Some of the stories on here and there are just that, stories and some will be news leaked on purpose.

What Reams hasn't considered why this months rumour doesn't match last months hence we have been taken over by Arabs, Russians and now Turks and that's just this season.

The Koc story does have a basis in fact but its not the done deal some were saying it was. In fact I was told it was done but obviously not.

The rumour that the SLP was banned by the club for running the Koc story suggests TJ and/or MS are very sensative about it. That in itself is odd as the Koc family were seen in the Directors box and many who were in there were given the impression it was done.

Maybe the deal has fallen through when due dillagence turned up some unsettled legal cases and strange accounting practices? Maybe TJ wants to keep a slice of the club and Koc don't.

Maybe we'll be told one day but don't hold your breath.

We have now reached such a stage of secrecy that the senior managers no longer have their emails listed in the programme. I wonder why.

Are you indicating that's the case?
  • NO!!! It was a hypothersis and nothing more.
  • The deal (and there are multiple offers) won't be going through until July/August next year, though funds are available for CP in the January transfer window......

If there are interested parties and they have put in different offers why would it take eight months. ?

  • Due Diligence is an incredibly thankless task and is often the stage at which a deal goes one way or another. It is time consuming and creates a lot of follow up traffic, meaning that there could well be a "slow down". If the Koc deal is not just a rumour it is entirely feasible that this is where it is at the moment.

    Unless you're Simon Jordan.
  • They're not going to rush into taking the wrong deal - they have four offers (five, but they don't believe one of the offers), so they will take their time and choose the right deal.... allegedly
