It does seem like a lot of championship teams are making good signings, which is a slight worry
If we can make a good start this season, it will hopefully become easier over time to attract talent and convince them we’re are heading upwards rather than just trying to tread water
As long as 3 aren’t then it’s all good! Sheffield Wednesday and Hull so far are 2. And Portsmouth have only signed one untested Aussie striker. Haven’t seen much from Derby or Wrexham’s transfer business that’s too strong.
I think we’re doing well and it sounds like there’s more to come 👍
Rumour on the other forum 2 players have been at the training ground today, 1 to sign and the other weighing up his options as he has interest from another club.
JRC would be the first transfer from a current Championship club.
Getting existing Championship players to join a newly promoted club is always going to be a hard sell, other you have a Birmingham type budget, so perhaps not surprisingly we've ended up raiding a relegated club (Luton) or the better players at other L1 clubs.
That's where loans do come in, as you can get the sort of player who would never join us permanently.
When we were relegated our best players left for clubs higher up and generally did well. That is how it works.
Intrigued by Apter. I saw him when he was 19 on loan at Scunthorpe United and he was exciting to watch in a side low on confidence and quality.
Comfortable with the ball at his feet and was a really tricky dribbler with a low centre of gravity, his only real issues at the time were his decision making in the final third and an occasional case of spongefoot. I’d be interested to see how he’s kicked on since then.
Apter left an impression on me in both matches I saw this past season.
In the home game he gave Small the run around and put in a couple of lovely crosses cutting in on his right foot.
In the away game he definitely gave Edwards one of his toughest assignments of the season.
Honestly, going to your defenders and saying “who was the worst couple of players you faced last season” probably isn’t a bad strategy if Ramsay would’ve said Tanto and Edwards would’ve said Apter…
No matter how this season pans out, in this current moment at the very least it’s genuinely refreshing to feel like we’re a well run club again with ambitious owners that are proving their ambition with more than just words
But I suspect he will be content to draw his salary sitting on the bench and being Nathan's best mate.
Not sure why you make it sound like Berry plans to be a lazy player and just accept wages to sit on bench.
He put in a lot of effort last season for us (42 league games, 7 goals, 5 assists), no reason he wouldn't want to put in that effort again and help us be successful this season.
But you carry on with sarcastic comments about content to draw a salary and be the managers best mate.

Yep, Berry was absolute class last season. No one in there right mine can dig him out for how he played and the commitment and desire he has playing for Charlton.

I don’t question his attitude and he has an eye for goal but I don’t see him being influential in the division above . Hope I’m wrong . I feel the same about Docherty . I believe Coventry will be good enough and I think Anderson will do a job as an energetic sub .
I think we are reaching a point where speculation on who will leave will be as important as who arrives. Alex Mitchell, Luke Berry, Nathan Asiimwe, Terry Taylor, Ashley Maynard Brewer, Gasan Ahadme may all be permanent departures, loans for Kanu, Dixon and possibly Zach Mitchell.
Why would Berry leave
Not saying he would but there is a possibility. He has a year left on his contract at Charlton, he is unlikely to be offered a further deal, if a club comes in and offers him a two year deal and an opportunity to play regular first team football, then he basically secures his future for two more years. It's the nature of Football that you have limited longevity and you need to stretch it out as much as you can.

If there is any truth in our interest in DKD then you’d think that would spell the end for Berry.
DKD tends to play (very well) in that second striker / attacking midfielder role.
I’d be suprised to see us spend big dollars on both Apter & DKD though. That would be dream world.

Oza, a little bit of an overreaction, don't you think ?
Don’t know how the rest of you are feeling about this transfer window but I’m pretty buzzing with where we are at the minute tbh?
The thing that is impressing me most is what appears to be the right blend of senior but not too old pros like Kaminski and Bell (32 & 31) with players who are mid career with future sell on value. We saw in NJ’s first full season how he goes about getting the most/best out of players so am expecting him to help get the next level out of players like Oloafe and Carey.
One or two wing backs (one who could play both sides would be ideal), a CM and another forward and think we are pretty much set.
Signing Apter won’t be straightforward. Blackpool want to keep him and he’s under contract. His star is still rising, so it’s going to be expensive. Probably the most expensive signing of the summer. That’s not to say it won’t happen. I would think the player and his agent would be keen but all I’m really trying to say is this one won’t be quick or easy to get over the line.

I see what you are saying but if Apter is going to be sold its in Blackpool 's interest to get it done early. That gives them time to bring in a suitable replacement. Sell him at the end of the window makes it harder to do so.

Definitely putting the pieces into the puzzle atm i'd rate it a 6 maybe 6.5 out of 10 but if we get the rest in as you say In those positions and they are exciting good additions then it would put it around 9 and one of the best windows in yonks.
Sounds like from the Blackburn journo on Cawleys podcast that JRC can play box-to-box CM or RWB to a good level too which is excellent to hear. Sounds like a good pro too.

Berry is the best finisher in the club (Godden is a goal scorer, there’s a difference). When all the rushing around and snap shots don’t pay off, Berry seems to be in the right position, stopping time and placing the ball in the back of the net. That man should never, ever, be allowed to leave Charlton.
Even if we did sign Apter and DKD , Berry will still have a decent sized role to play , whether that's off the bench or in away games where Nathan changes shape . He's also someone that's clearly valued around the squad too.

Gives us lots of options.
Hopefully we get them both over the line before the team bonding trip to Slovenia 🤞

Can't see why he'd leave for Donny.
