He's not ruling out all loans though is he? He said never say never and if the right person came along or we picked up an injury in a key area in the next fortnight then I'm sure we'll see a loanee come in1

As well as the cost and having to guarantee game, I get the impression we prefer permanents as we can develop them and potentially sell for a profit if they progress faster than the club. They also don’t need replacing every summer (or worse, in January).
I expect the remaining position we’re after is RWB. For them to be a loanee they’d have to be outstanding, as we’ve spent a few million on Apter.1 -
Do you guys think we will see anyone in before deadline0

I am expecting one in and two out (likely on loan Z Mitchell and Kanu).
I think a possible new player was at the Valley on Tuesday night. Was down the far end of the 1905 lounge but couldn’t find the opportunity to get a snap and when I explaining his characteristics to my lad, he didn’t know either. Passed the height test, blond and very athletic looking. May have been nothing but one or two people gravitated in and around him to suggest he may well be a prospective signing.Manny Egbo was also in the lounge but don’t suspect he is in the signing soon category now we are in the Championship.12 -
Manny Egbo has performed the player to fan transition, truly the stuff of dreams24

I get the idea of no loans but even if we were to bring a cb on loan for example it allows Z.Mitchell to go out on loan and gets him ready for the first team next season so actually betters his development. If we were looking to bring in a loan striker then that’s different because it reduces TC Leaburn opportunities but bringing in a loan to cover another youngster to go out on loan isn’t a massive hindrance in their development3

There’s a lot of talk on here rubbishing Rodwell’s statement about loans. I don’t see any issue with it.
I get that people want a body in while a youngster develops on loan elsewhere, but not only has Rodwell explicitly said we haven’t ruled out getting loans in, he’s also said we’d prefer that the players developing with us benefit Charlton in the long term rather than other clubs. He’s not against loaning out you’ll notice. And those youngsters going out on loan and improving can come back next year challenging those in place or replacing players who move on.
He’s mentioned 4 players there where he’d rather use them than get a loan in. We might disagree on who could step up now, and which of them might do better elsewhere on loan, but his point is clear: he doesn’t want to block the progress of our young players. He wants those players around the first team to aid their progress and ours. He’d prefer them to have a chance of playing rather than a Chem Campbell or a Matt Smith (take your pick) or even an Alex Gilbert who left us in credit. But he’s ruled nothing out, which is correct too - remember, we don’t know what sorts of injuries and suspension issues we might have to deal with this year, so options need to stay open.
In truth, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of those 4 go out on loan and I wouldn’t rule out one or two loans in either. Rodwell is rightly keeping some cards close to his chest while also pointing out the intended strategy and ruling nothing out.I just don’t see a problem with the philosophy or the statement.31 -

My opinion is that when your established in the league you can be a bit more adventurous with your academy prospects and more focused on giving them time and opportunities but this season is purely about staying up. While I'd love to see the prospects step up if there's couple of EPL loans that we can get to keep us up then we need to be fixated on that and make that sacrifice.6

Chris_from_Sidcup said:Loans are only an issue if you have too many (like Orient last season) and then need to totally rebuild the following season. If you can get a top quality loan like Gallagher, Cullen, Bielik etc then i can't imagine why anyone would see this as a bad thing.

We were under an embargo because of him. Less money spent on himself would've meant better loans in Jan and keeping Conor. Matt fucking Southall is why we got relegated. He is why we had to play kids. Yes, 🐍 could've saved us, but we never should have been in that position the first place.15
