Does seem odd that if he had signed on either Monday or Tuesday it's not been announced yet today. Thought I'd just have a look at Cawley's recent headlines. With Kelman it was "Charlton close to a deal." Whereas on Knibbs on Monday it was "Charlton working on a deal." A subtle but I would think, intentional difference.

That said, a lot of supposed ITKers seemed sure he had completed a medical and signed on the dotted line.

Someone mentioned that Reading were working on a replacement for Knibbs so maybe have asked us not to announce until that is done to soften the blow for Reading fans, have a bad feeling though about this one, if say Wrexham come in we probably can't compete on wages! Hope I am wrong but some reassurance from Cawley or @goddenole would be good

I am not ITK but I think we are not getting Knibbs. I feel it would have been announced by now. I think the so called ITKs have gone too early. I know that Wrexham and Sheffield United are interested. I wouldn’t be surprised if he turns up at one of those Clubs.

On Monday I posted that I thought Knibbs wasn’t as close as some were saying due to other clubs being involved. I very much think it’s going to come down to his choice with three clubs vying for his signature, all having met Readings valuation. I very much hope my information leading me to think that was incorrect but it’s looking like it might not be.
  • Knibbs is signing for Vietese Arnhem. Murphy was using his new position to poach him

It comes from a guy who said Kelman wasn't happening, so take it with a pinch of salt.

If it was a done deal there is no reason whatsoever why they wouldn’t have announced it today.

All suggests it’s not done. Hope I’m wrong

Lucy Bronze. She played in the Euros with a fractured tibia.
Bert Trautman played in goal for Man. City with a broken neck.
Not at all the same situation. Scientists have proved that Germans feel pain less than other people.

Exactly. Perhaps we couldn’t agree terms.

It only got announced on Monday we had agreed a fee, think people are flapping way too much . Apparently we’ve been chasing Kelman all window so we know things take time. I have faith Jones and the board will get it over the line.

if you think this is flapping, then you have not witnessed a proper CL Delort-sized meltdown yet

That’s not true though is it?

The time it’s announced is agreed between the two clubs.

Reading may want to announce a signing of their own that they’re close to completing first. Or they may want it held back for other reasons.
  • Phew.  Just asked AI (Gemini) where is Harvey Knibbs?  Panic over.

From a PR point of view, you would want to leave it at least 48 hours after sad news to announce anything - even then, it would be advisable to do it low key.

It would not be a good look to return to normal / as if nothing had happened, so quickly.

    Fair point.

I wouldn’t say I was flapping, just not convinced that it’s all done and dusted. That equally doesn’t mean that it won’t be at some point

I get what you're saying, but we also launched a Hawaiian shirt today, which isn't exactly mourning attire...

If Cawley hadn’t already tweeted about it I’d be fully on the Sheff Utd train.

But when was the last time Cawley opened put a player’s name out there and then the deal fell through? He only does that when the deal is already signed or it’s at the goal line.

People are just flapping because it hasn’t been announced today like they assumed.

It could still be announced tonight. Or tomorrow. No rush.

We have returned to normal quickly.

We played a game and reported on it only a few hours later, have announced an outgoing earlier today, have announced new items in the club shop.

I also wouldn’t panic if he didn’t join. He’s a great player and one I’d love to have but it’s clear that the club have been enquiring about PL loan signings if it doesn’t come off

Playing a game and reporting on it is ongoing business - that doesn't stop.

If the club is actively marketing / promoting so quickly then that's less appropriate. If we launched an Hawaiian shirt today then that's even more inappropriate on two levels.

I don't subscribe to the clubs marketing so don't see this, but I could give them some PR guidance.

I would panic if he didn't sign as he's quality and I think we would have struggled to get better for the price. Fortunately a deal was agreed and he is set to sign as reported.

Put your concerns elsewhere I would say, like will there be enough stock that we can all get a Hawaiian Charlton shirt.

according to the local Reading newspaper .. Reading aim to fill 'big gap' left by Knibbs exit before Lincoln City opener

For me there's only 3 feasible reasons why it hasn't been announced yet.

    1. He's had another offer at the 11th hour. However this would seem unlikely as there are no legitimate reports linking him moving anywhere other than to us.
    2. He failed a medical. But if this were true it would've been announced by now.
    2. Reading are in the final stages of signing a replacement and want to get that done before they officially let him leave.

So all things considered i'm going with option 3.

Available Thursday, maybe they wanted his Knibbs wearing one in the photo shoot...
  • Pete o’rourke reported that it was going to be finalised later this week, stop panicking 🤣

Maybe we're delaying things, so that Southend have less time to be prepared? - Bit like how we knew about JFC's injury before the Sunderland game in 2018, but the club didn't announce it until just before the match...?
