POST-MATCH THREAD: Birmingham City vs Charlton Athletic | Saturday 15th February 2025 - 3pm Kick-Of

  • The Club is aware that at yesterday’s match against Charlton Athletic, a supporter in the home end made racially motivated gestures towards an away fan.
We would like to apologise to our visitors from Charlton and stress that this mindless action does not represent our football club.
Birmingham City has a zero tolerance for such behaviour and we always take action.
We are working closely with West Midlands Police to identify the individual concerned.
Once identified we will support the authorities in their investigations and once that is concluded we will take appropriate action ourselves.
We will keep supporters updated on the investigations.

  • Felt Gillespie was marginally at fault, but you have to remember Stansfield is the best striker in this league and way too good for it, as shown by the stunning finish.
Agree with many that there are some pretty shabby areas between city and ground,, especially as the bus because of roadworks did not stop near the roundabout. Ended up 15 minutes away so was late. Felt the arrangements with our supporters being next to the more vocal and some provocative Blues was something urgently needing changing. Hope the person idiotic enough to throw a flair which nearly hit a policeman at the end has been caught on camera or otherwise rumbled.
Finally enjoyed vibrant city centre and a good curry.
  • I think flare throwing fella was outside surrounded by a few old bill

Grim. Good to see Birmingham acting quickly on it
Saw this happening. Plenty had photos on phone and were showing the police. Fair play to the head steward, who had really annoyed me by trying to get the police to move people out of the seats next to the netting when there was nowhere to go, as he immediately stopped being a jobsworth and was directing the police outside to try and intercept whoever it was.

Moron. Hope he gets a lifetime ban from Birmingham City.
  • Sadly it is exactly 'who they are' although not representative of any one fan base I still think this could happen more or less anywhere in the country.

  • Oh if only things had been different, they wouldn't be the same...🤔
  • A middle aged woman.
    Dear me 🫣😞🤬
  • I actually put a bit of fault at Edwards door for the goal, he went for a header he was never getting in a million years which left him out of position and us short at the back, CC should just have put it out and that was bad game management, can't blame MG, as others have he had someone running to his right and was mindful of over committing too early. Saturday was never going to define our season just disappointing everyone else won.
Gillesphey definitely not at fault. Agree with all the above.

Also that surely puts to bed any chat about our squad being ready for the championship. We were miles off them today
Today, meaning one match similar to the impressive Newcastle having a bad day at the office against the likely champions in the Premier.

You are probably right but I found it embarrassing that as we were on a good run we were suddenly going to finish in the top  2 ! The seesaw goes up and down and the players go from zeros to Heroes and back again as weight on either end of the kiddies plaything changes.

The same people no dealt in November said the worse squad in living memory 🤔

I thought we were going to get beaten 3-1 and Stansfield would get a brace so no real harm done losing to the run away champions of League one 1-0.
Disappointment for the 2k travellers but Possibly a 4-0 tonking if that was played when Jones and Ramsey were missing !

We need to be in the playoffs to win it. I was in the 7th to 10th camp back in August when we did the predictions so this is all a bonus for me but I do know that we would've to have much recruitment whether we stay in this division or the unlikely event we get promotion.

You can't stand still in football and CAFC have been in quicksand for some time so even to be in the fight for top six is progress after the last 4 seasons.

You know that thing when with a corner the ball is in the quadrant if even a tiny slither of the overhang of the globe is over the outside of the line, well AMB collected the ball when a tiny slither of it looked as if it was over the line of the penalty area.
The officials couldn’t be sure it wasn’t so couldn’t give handball.
Would like to see it again but it wasn’t featured in the highlights video.
Not sure about a slither, it was almost a full ball outside the box.

‘That was mental’ – Nathan Jones provides view on Ashley Maynard-Brewer handball accusation at Birmingham

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones revealed why goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer had to be withdrawn at the halfway point of the 1-0 loss at Birmingham City – and also gave his view on a contentious incident early on.

The Addicks stopper was replaced by Will Mannion at the interval after an eventful first half at St. Andrew’s.

Maynard-Brewer was perhaps lucky to escape without punishment after appearing to handle the ball outside of his area in the early stages.

He was then beaten by Jay Stansfield’s rising drive midway through the half, before making a close-range stop from Tomoki Iwata.

But the 25-year-old goalkeeper didn’t reappear after the break.

Jones explained: “He picked up an injury which is unfortunate. I think it’s a groin injury. He did it in the first half, so we got to half-time so we didn’t have to make a sub because we knew we’d need game changers to come on. That’s unfortunate.”

When asked about the handball incident – during which opposite number Chris Davies was cautioned for his protestations – Jones added: “No, he didn’t [handle the ball outside of the area].

“They made more of it than it should have been. That was mental. Literally their coaching staff get an iPad and got a computer there and they can see it’s clearly inside the area but it generates a bit of atmosphere and so on but nothing to talk about there.”

I think Nathan needs to go to Specsavers. That said, I think if we had a penalty ruled against us that was that far out of the box, he might just have had something to say about what he saw!

This is disgusting and whether you like Birmingham or not, they are illustrating it is not who they are. It is worrying that there are people who feel empowered to do this in such a public place. Nothing to do with football but not good for society.
In all honestly I am starting to have a poor opinion of Birmingham supporters. Quite like them when they are not in the vicinity of a football ground.

They are not really respectful online/or (as it appears) in the stadium as well.

They need to start taking lessons from their owner instead of constantly coming out with this.  (Maybe play this advert at the start of every home game)

I know it is not 'the club' but their fan base but if they are not careful they will be the Millwall of the North.

Again they need to act on this now especially when their owner is doing long adverts about how to be respectful towards others.

  • To be fair it was a bit of a free hit ( i know some will shout theres no such thing), I didnt think we would get much from the game.

Don’t get why Jones can’t just say “we got away with that one”. It’s so blatantly obvious and just makes him look silly.
    Never give an inch.

They are the Millwall of the Midlands and always have been.
    Perhaps you're not very old?

Christ, I remember the last game of the season in 1998 (just looked it up), when they all started coming onto the pitch at the end of the game to get at us and having no protection on the way out as they attacked us.

They even got on our double decker coach/bus as we fought them off and I recall Andy Church smacking one of them on the head with an iron bar as they were reaching the top deck.
Bricks were hitting the windows and a few psychos were even kicking the bus as we finally sped away at @25mph.

Regularly used to get aggro outside every time.

Dropped us back at Birmingham international instead of New Street for our own safety according to the local old bill when we departed the bus

Yep, I'm not THAT old (38 today! Thank you thank you) but I've always known Birmingham are a horrible bunch, they were due a relegation out of the Championship for years too but when it eventually came it was when they'd been bought by serious Yank money ffs. They'll be established EPL in three years along with Palace. We live in hell. Cheer up Leuth have some cake or something
    Happy birthday @Leuth

  • I had middle aged men singing ‘get in your boats and fuck off home’ near me 🙄 in our end on saturday , football brings out the inner most cnut in some people
Just a playful reference to our excellent canal network.

Sorry that we lost, but not devastated as we made them work bloody hard for it. We even had a period of dominance towards the end of the game after the subs.
Birmingham has a lot of good bars and pubs, went to a pub recommended by a mate. The Colmor tap, a Tnornbridge brewery pub  Had a good mild bitter in there and had a friendly chat with Walsall fans. Who were home that day.

I'll look out for that one in the summer when I'm up in Brum for a day at the test match. Just around the corner from The Wellington too.
