  • Friend of a friend who is a boro fan says. Good player never given a chance and lightweight.
  • I asked my mate who supports Boro. He said it’s difficult to express a view, as he’s played so few games, although not his fault as the players in his position have been going great guns plus the club have signed two attacking players which will push Gilbert further down the pecking. When he has seen him, he’s looked handy.

It’s a low risk deal for Charlton and, unlike a summer loan, there’s no risk of him being recalled. Let’s hope he’s an upgrade on Luke Berry or, at the very least, that he will provide an element of competition that will push Berry to up his game.

    ...Remind you of someone...

    ...TT ?

From the picture of him signing what appears to be a blank piece of paper on the OS I thought he looked like a skinny 18 year old, surprised he’s actually 23. I’m sure training with Danny Hylton (is he still with us?!) for a couple of months will toughen him up!

  • Looks a good 'un….
  • Very good BUT what is his squad number please
Probably 14, the number he has worn at Boro.
  • Welcome, never heard of him so hope he lives up to the hype that Scott and Jones are saying re adding quality.

I take the comments on the borough forum with a pinch of salt, if he is too good for league one, he wouldn’t be here

Fire us to promotion Alex 🙏

More to the point, how tall is he?
  • Got to say, the fact that nobody seems to know too much about him is probably a good thing, no unrealistic expectations there then. I will base his signing on the last loan signing from Middlesborough, I think, Alan Kernaghan, if he turns out as well as that fella did then we might have a result.

I haven't got any friends from Middlesbrough 🤷🏻‍♂️
But Steph McGovern said he's a versatile skilful player that needs more game time and should be decent in the mediocre League 1.
Chris Rea said Alex Gilbert will be driving home for Christmas.

I hope Alex hits the ground running in his 10 minute cameo on Saturday and he is successful for himself, the team and the fans 🤞🏻

Boro have done us up like a kipper here. That’s not even Alex Gilbert. It’s Paul Smyth!

He is only here for 4 months so I would hope he has all the tools in his box to hit the ground running. Not spend a couple of month’s toughening up
  • Underwhelmed with his track record.......

Is what my wife said about my profile on the dating app when we met. 16 years later, and she's warming to me!

Let's hope this young lad with something to prove, does just that. He doesn't really have any reputation, such is his very limited game time so far for a 23 year old.

If Jones sees something in him, then that's what matters, as he'll definitely be picking him on Saturday's, otherwise, why get him?

Is this the 'quality' that was spoke of on Saturday? Can Gilbert be considered a marquee signing?

Paul Smyth has played 22 matches in the Championship this season for QPR so not all our ex players drop down the football pyramid 😁

He’s hardly played any first team football, and has never played a full 90 minutes in his career (that seems pretty crazy by 23 years old), so I would take the views of fans of other clubs he’s been at with a massive pinch of salt.
Especially as they say this and that about League One but they nothing about it. Luton fans do know about it but they still said that Berry would be like a ’cheat code’ , whatever that actually  is.

I doubt that Gilbert's going to come in and be a vital part of the team, certainly not for the first few months as he isn’t used to playing 90 minutes.
He may be a ’game changer’ and if so then we should be delighted with that.
  • Actually going on Saturday so will hopefully see him in the flesh.

How the fuck you going on Saturday , you do know it's a 12.30 kick off , that's prime time for lunch , you on some sort of diet , can not believe you're letting this shit get in the way of an important meal .
I know. Such a dilemma. Only doing it because little bruv is over from France.

  • Is he competition for Berry? If so good. Berry not involved enough for me. Is Gilbert better? We'll see.
Seeing as NJ said that we only bring in players that are quality & better than we already have then I assume Berry will be dropped on Saturday & Gilbert starts.

    And if you believe that.....
  • Time will tell whether this fella is good, or a dud, got to trust our extensive recruitments judgement.
  • Another one due in on loan today:

    For us?
  • My smoggie friend said "Who? Never heard of him". Still, as he just lives near M'bro and doesn't follow the football, not very insightful.

    Welcome Alex lad. Smash it.

    God! I hope so!

How can you NOT want to sign a player who has the name of "Krippendorff"?

Quick hard working flair player in FM, could fit what we’re looking for as an alternative to TC.
  • I know it's a Gilbert and Sullivan joke but I am surprised with American ownership and owners that have owned MLS clubs that we haven't looked at players over there.
