  • That is absolutely cringeworthy. Like Marcus said above, both sides need to grow up a bit.
  • Can see the original argument for asking, but as soon as they didn't agree to the draw you get on with it, all the bleating about it, bowling Brook etc is really poor.

Of course, if you believe 1.4b people on Twitter, it was definitely the groundsman fault for telling people to get off a pitch hes working hard to prepare.

Poor, childish and embarrassing behaviour by England that led to a sour finish, because they were tired and sore at the end of the "test". The only positive is that it has been recognised by the English supporting media and fans.
Akin to what I say in my MK Don's retorts......how many is too many ?

If you were 70 not out would you stay for the final hour to see if you could get to 100 ? What about if you had 60  ?

Early- mid 90's I can see that you might want to stay on so you could register 100, and In Washington's case it was going to be his maiden century. But as one of the English players said, they could have pushed a bit harder after tea to get those runs.

So c'mon chaps......at what score is enough to stay on for the final hour instead of shaking hands ?

Gambhir's a brave man given the size of the head groundsman!
  • I think the weather might be the winner this week. Looks like rain Thursday morning until early afternoon, and again on Friday. Saturday looks ok but then maybe more rain Sunday.
  • Fucking hope not going to my 1st test in over 40 years Thursday

Did they stay on for the final hour @golfaddick

Sounds like it's Golfie and KP versus the rest of the cricketing fraternity on this topic. One I'm happy to let rest now 😉.

Lee Fortis is a great bloke by all accounts but also not someone you mess with

Bumrah out of the final test. That Indian attack is going to be bizarre
  • Tempted to lump on another draw, both sides struggling for 20 wickets.

He was the groundsman at the Kent ground in Beckenham back in the early noughties and I got to know him a bit .He's a lovely chap. He's a real gentle giant but like most groundsman prepares a lovely wicket but then resents people using it 😀

A probably fully rotated England attack Vs an Indian attack of a very weary Siraj, Arshdeep, Kamboj ,Thakur and Jadeja sounds like one for the purists 😂

    Draw all over it
  • So no Stokes or frontline spinner
  • And one suspects that Stokes tantrum at the end of the last Test was made in the knowledge that he wouldn't be fit for the final match
  • This is going to be the drawiest draw in the history of draws. If India don't pick Kuldeep and stack their bowling they're even bigger idiots than I thought
  • There had been rumours that we'd leave out Dawson if Stokes wasn't fit, to play 4 seamers, but that's a big call. Especially as Bethell as a red ball bowler is a complete rookie.

For Stokes not to play suggests that the risk in him doing so was fairly high given he hasn't got many commitments between now and the Ashes.

Edit - he's just said that, as things stand, the recovery time is 6-7 weeks. There was a school of thought that he played as a batter only but even that wasn't considered worth the risk.
  • Rehan Ahmed can consider himself laughably unfortunate to not be in this side tbh. Then again, this Test is a nailed on draw. Bowling attacks have got nothing
  • Glad we've not been stupid and rested Joff. We need Wood & Archer both fit if we have any chance in the Ashes imo.
  • An Indian journalist has just asked whether Stokes was asked whether instructions were given to him as to whether he "could watch the wicket from 2.5 metres away". Stokes avoided answering that specifically by saying that "he doesn't know what happened" at which point the ECB media man swiftly rushed him away. Their journos surrounded the head of the ground staff yesterday in order to spin a response but both he and Stokes successfully fed them nothing.
  • Slightly odd situation now where Bethell is auditioning to potentially take the role of the person captaining him

I think he's auditioning for a role anywhere in the team. We won't afraid to throw him in at 3 in New Zealand and I'm sure if he does well here then a place will be found for him anywhere from 1 to 7. He has 12 FC wickets to his name at 70.00 and has 2-90 off 20 overs in the CC this season. He is nowhere near being regarded as an all rounder in red ball but someone that we will throw the ball to in order to break up the monotony of seamer after seamer.

Of course but the two most under pressure players are probably Crawley and Pope (I don't think either will actually be dropped). The rest of the top 7 are pretty nailed on.

Will also be interested to see how much he is thrown the ball when the seamers need a rest and if he gets it before Root

I don't think it needs annotation, it's a pretty balanced article.

That might depend on whether there are right or left handers in at the time.
