Get as many runs as you can, don’t fuck around with declaring in your first innings at just over 3004
-
I love a Jofra slog1
-
Much needed runs here. Quality from Archer.0

Rooooooooooooooooooooooooooot

I would rather they had declared, but if we were to bat on this has been exactly the right batting approach in this situation.Diebythesword said:Would rather runs on the board than bowling at them tonight tbh. Good to get some momentum back.
That message from Potts clearly told them to hit out, as Root had been playing defensively and trying to hide Archer from the strike.0 -
Just shows how under par our score is and how useless some of our batsmen were. If Archer is doing this, watch them rack up 450+0
-
Archer to a 50 anyone...0
-
Let Jofra open the second innings with Crawley. Absolute cinema.2
-
Great time for Archer to get his best test score. Lovely.1
-
Anyone who seriously thought we should have declared at nine down needs their head examined.
Have they forgotten Edgebaston last time?2 -

325-9 (74) at close and an unbeaten 10th wicket stand of 61
Root a fantastic 135* (202)
Archer with a swashbuckling 32* (26)

What a partnership this is. Great finish to the day1
-
Quality day for the fans there. Very jealous.1
-
Unbelievably good finish. Goes to show how quickly the Aussies panic if things turn. Thank god we didn't declare!0
-
Kent and Sussex both outscoring Surrey.
Really impressive knock by Archer. Massive shots, but also some excellent defence when required.2 -
Quality performance from Archer/Root...0

Can't beat a bit of last wicket trolling to demoralise the Aussies,Joe root what a man and archer aswell bravo 🫡0
-
Jofra can bat. I saw him score an excellent ton for Sussex 2nds a few years ago. He tends to get beaten by pace which isn’t a problem here. Hope he makes 50 tomorrow.killerandflash said:Kent and Sussex both outscoring Surrey.

West Indies won there last year, scoring 311 in the first innings, so people saying it's under par are wrong2
-
Well done Joe Root, fantastic.
Think 325 still feels short, but it's a hell of a lot better than 264, so well done Jofra Archer too!!0 -

Bet the Aussies wished they hadn't slowed the game down, and just got us out 50 runs ago3
-
Really poor captaincy by Smith, who thought we were done and dusted with 45 minutes of the day to go.
Great to see the world's best batter make his first 100 in Australia.
I will admit that I didn't think at the start of play that Archer would hit more sixes today than Root has in his career in Australia.2 -
Thank fuck for that. 325 is a decent score with a pink ball under lights. 350+ would be lovely but I have a sense that there wont be too much more batting tomorrow morning once a fresh Starc gets bowling.1

We'll see.Rothko said:West Indies won there last year, scoring 311 in the first innings, so people saying it's under par are wrong0 -
Aggers (rightly) really laying into Brook on TMS, absolutely spot on saying he's got so much potential but will waste it playing like this without thinking.5
-
And quite correct too. Please now post "Archer looks like he's going to rip through the Aussie top order."Addick Addict said:

Great last hour!

The WinViz thing that the BBC are fond of has England at 68% to win. I always feel it underestimates our ability to self-destruct, but the general conclusion seems sound that we're suddenly slight favourites despite the horrors of everything except the last hour or so.0
-
Given both sides have dodgy looking batting line-ups and some quality bowlers, I'll happily take this first innings score.2

The betting markets are somewhat different:Swindon_Addick said:The WinViz thing that the BBC are fond of has England at 68% to win.
