    I would rather they had declared,  but if we were to bat on this has been exactly the right batting approach in this situation. 

    That message from Potts clearly told them to hit out,  as Root had been playing defensively and trying to hide Archer from the strike.

    Really impressive knock by Archer. Massive shots,  but also some excellent defence when required.

    Jofra can bat. I saw him score an excellent ton for Sussex 2nds a few years ago. He tends to get beaten by pace which isn’t a problem here. Hope he makes 50 tomorrow.

    Think 325 still feels short, but it's a hell of a lot better than 264, so well done Jofra Archer too!!

    Really poor captaincy by Smith, who thought we were done and dusted with 45 minutes of the day to go.  

    Great to see the world's best batter make his first 100 in Australia.  

    I will admit that I didn't think at the start of play that Archer would hit more sixes today than Root has in his career in Australia.

    Thank fuck for that. 325 is a decent score with a pink ball under lights. 350+ would be lovely but I have a sense that there wont be too much more batting tomorrow morning once a fresh Starc gets bowling.

    The WinViz thing that the BBC are fond of has England at 68% to win. I always feel it underestimates our ability to self-destruct, but the general conclusion seems sound that we're suddenly slight favourites despite the horrors of everything except the last hour or so.
