Wycombe arrived at the Valley this festive season having only lost one on the road all campaign, full of confidence and sitting second in the table. But Charlton have been performing well over the holiday period themselves, starting with the same eleven that have won back-to-back victories. The two sides pushed and pulled for the first half hour with Charlton having the better of the opportunities and Wycombe looking organised but contained. Luke Berry had a couple of chances in that period, one of which he should have done better with, but it was Miles Leaburn who picked up where he left off to open the scoring*. Another Josh Edward’s long throw caused issues and Leaburn stuck his leg out past his man to drive in his first goal of the afternoon on forty six minutes to take the Addicks into the lead going into halftime.
The second half started with the Addicks building in confidence. On fifty-two minutes Leaburn struck again as he broke free into the Wycombe half and, seeing the keeper in no-man’s land, skillfully lobbed the ball over and down into the back of the net to put Charlton two to the good.
Charlton were in complete control and Wycombe looked devoid of ideas. Leaburn, tired and on a yellow, was taken off for Ahadme, with Karoy Anderson also coming on to refresh the centre of the pitch. Wycombe had made quite a few changes themselves at that point looking for a bit of inspiration. That came from Richard Kone, Wycombe’s top scorer, who found himself with space in the box and curled a shot past Maynard-Brewer to set up a tense final fifteen minutes. In hindsight, Wanderer’s supporters will surely be asking why he had been rested. While Wycombe gained confidence from the goal, it proved only a consolation as Charlton were determined to see out the good performance with all three points.
We’ve returned to being well organised at the back and difficult to beat. And we’re now scoring more freely. The squad should have a bit of confidence going into the back end of the season, poised to make a playoff push. Three wins on the bounce take us up into seventh place in the table, up from eleventh before kickoff. So, all in all, the Addicks are finally pointed in the right direction. Will we be in a position to strengthen in January to ensure things stay that way?
Charlton 2 Wycombe 1
Over to you.
*Editor’s note: Leaburn’s goal to open scoring occurred at the beginning of the second half, not in the first! It was level at halftime.

I’ve been very critical of both the players and Jones but today was decent. I’ll still not give Jones too much credit because what’s happened in last three games isn’t a consequence of his tactics suddenly working. He’s been either forced into a change or realised his favoured style might cost him his job. Having said that, there is definitely something to build on now regardless of the whys and wherefores. Now would be a good time to invest in the squad but I’m fairly sure that’s unlikely. Anyway. Very good win today.

Keep it going lovely boys!0

Thoroughly enjoyable second half of football. Quality is still not great but the effort is second to none. Well done boys and NJ.17

Great result.
Looking solid going into the next stage of the season.
Underperforming team are coming good
COYR!5 -
Really good second half. Reminded me of the good old days. We made Wycombe look like Cambridge.3
-
Probably our best performance of the season. Brilliant team effort and a well deserved victory. Worked ourselves into the ground to the point that Wycombe didn't really have any clear cut chances, while we managed to fashion several for ourselves.5

YESSSSSSSS!!!1

I thought Cambridge looked better than Wycombe in all honesty. Should have been 3 or 4 one.1

Fantastic performance today by everyone as we all know beating a top side in the league is something we do and losing to the bottom clubs is also something we do ! Crawley now a massive game, 3 points there and we can start to believe6

Brilliant performance.Pin your ears back and go for it now boys6

Thoroughly enjoyed that.15

We actually seemed to have found a lineup that seems to work well together. Who would have thought that playing a defensive midfielder, box to box midfielder and an attacking midfielder in their natural positions instead of three defensive midfielders would work.21

Just the expected 9 points. Can’t believe we are in the conversation for playoffs to be honest. Are we in a false position? Who knows?Hopefully this form will continue.I give Jones stick for his turgid football so gotta also give the praise for this run23

Isn't it amazing how all of a sudden things just click.
That was Birmingham at home all over again. Every player worked their socks off , closed the opposition down and made them look ordinary at best.
A month or two ago we would have blown that lead.
We just need to do the same at Crawley on Wednesday.
Well Done lads24 -
A great result and perhaps we have finally 'clicked'? I hope noone comes on here moaning today, every player played their part and we didn't make Wycombe look anything special. Two well taken goals by Miles, great defensive display from the back 3, Small worried them, TC run them ragged Cov and Doc had hold of midfield. We pressed and harried all game, the same as we did against Brum etc.
Onto Crawley, can we make it 4 from 4? I think we can!7 -
Fair play to Jones and the players. Looked impossible a few weeks ago and these 3 wins have been better than the ones at the start of the season. We were the better team for 80 minutes today and really should have been more than 2 up by the time they scored.
If we can exorcise our Crawley demons on Wednesday I’ll start to think we may finally be clicking.5 -
Did Miles do the tunnel jump?3

Thought first half we seemed set up to contain and hit then on the break, which we did well. Both TC and Small caused them problems and Berry should have scored. They looked slick but not dangerous.
Second half we moved the ball better and picked them apart, Leaburn showing his class with two different but decent finishes. They eventually got back into it when two of ours fell for the same feint and they scored with their first shout on target.
We became more ragged but worked hard defensively, they lacked the sickness of the first half and grew desperate.
3 in a row now, long may it continue.0 -
My little one had a good feeling about today. ...
If we had won that by more than one goal then that would have been fair.
Apart from being fairly organised, I don't see how Wycombe are where they are...thought they were bang average!

Lloyd Jones is so crucial to this side, what a difference since he came back from injury62

What a great festive period for us. Feeling a lot more positive about the second half of the season. Some great performances and team play today. Special mention for Gillesphey who has had his critics and not without reason. Best game he has had for us. Up the football league we go.12
-
great performance all round!
Absolutely beautiful to see us actually try and play some proper attractive football the last few weeks - and it has clearly paid off!
Made hard work of it somewhat at the end, with TC and small getting lazy and lackadaisical but it worked out. Hate to say it but the slight dip in performance coincided with Andersons introduction- really hard to see what he adds at the moment4 -
3 out of 3, fair play to NJ and players.
Can’t wait for Crawley, booking for Preston.7 -
Great win - and full value for it too.0
-
Small in on the right has made a big difference to the team, both defending and attacking, even if he himself isn’t back to the heights he set last season.
Gillesphey has played much better.
But Lloyd Jones is the anchor. We’re so much better when he’s in the squad, organising the back and being a leader that seems to scoop up everything around him.24 -
MOM today, an amazing goal that second one, managed to miss the first goal.
What a win, onwards and upwards from here.81 -
Wins help, but enjoying the endeavour and some lovely football along with it. Still work to do. We need a stronger bench, but this is our best team. Leaburn and TC up front have been huge over Xmas

Noticable that the midfield kept it on the floor & passed to a team mate, esp for the 2nd goal.
Defence looking a lot better now Jones is back & also heps having a proper full back at right back, even if Small is a left back by trade.
Might have egg on my face re my comment about Leaburn but I'll take that every day of the week if it means he scores every time I say it.9 -
Nathan Jones has been kidnapped .Been told to get the real one back we have to pay 200k .
Understand we are unable to find the money at the moment.31
