Just wondering who was the last Kent opening batsman that was able to bring his county form to his England performances?

Thinking maybe, Brian Luckhurst? I lived in Australia between 1970-72 and remember his performances against Australia, in Australia. Batting with Boycott as his opening partner?

ah, Bob Woolmer has just popped into my mind, was he an opening batsman for both Kent and England?

I think Woolmer mainly batted down the order but did open in a couple of Tests.
  • 304-3

    Wicket for Parkinson
  • When I think of Woolmer I immediately think of those finger less (mitten type) gloves he wore.
  • 376-3 at tea
  • I know there's another day left but they might as well just shake hands

Not sure about that with our ability to collapse. They are 30 ahead with 35 overs today remaining today and could be 320 ahead and declare after an hour tomorrow. We have a proven ability to self-combust especially in what might be 75 overs of play left.

Clearly you haven’t been following Kent too long

  • 477-4

One to Leaning. Lancs are now 103 ahead with 21 overs of the day remaining.
  • Staggering though, even on a flat pitch we have an ability  to make it look like we are getting torn an absolute new one. Knew there was a reason we ended up getting lots of runs in the first innings, we have proper village bowlers and have done for years
  • A third wicket for Evison

527-5 and a lead of 153 with 13 overs remaining. The dangerous Turner still there on 123.
  • 615-7 with Parkinson picking up a couple more. A lead of 241 with 5 overs to go.
  • 629-8

    wicket to Jaydn
  • Another to Jaydn

    631-9
  • 639-9 at close. Lead of 265.
  • What happened to the Wes Agar who used to be really good?

I don't know. He hasn't been great in white ball either but, there again, this is his first bowl in the CC whereas Kashif Ali has been a disappointment too - 11 wickets at 58.54 compares to Dudgeon's 8 wickets at 8.62
  • I suspect that Anderson might declare overnight and set himself upon us in the knowledge that we will probably have to bat for five hours at least to save the game.

  • Poor performance today.
  • Parkinson opening the batting?

Compton out cheaply already. This could be a long day trying to hold on for a draw.

That is rather a strange way of lengthening the tail or keeping our top order away from Anderson which, either way, didn't work as Parkinson went for 4. We're currently 34-2 (17) with Jaydn on 16* (35) and DBD on 6* (24).

It's going to be a long day. Hopefully.
  • Really unfortunate for Jaydn who has been batting valiantly- hit on the forearm by Stanley just 4 balls before lunch. He has carried on nevertheless and will get an opportunity for some treatment and a proper assessment during the break.

    74-2 (30) and we trail by 191

    Jaydn 48* (71)
    DBD 13* (66)
  • DBD out in the first over after lunch at short leg from a bit of a nothing shot for 13 (69). One can't help thinking that going into his shell as he did today actually didn't do us and him any favours overall.

    75-3 (30.4)
  • Maiden FC 50* (74) for Jaydn

Muyeye goes for 3 (17) in exactly the same way as DBD. It is really baffling to see these tactics. Our two best strikers of a ball in the side have allowed Lancs to dictate. Playing French cricket like that to someone turning the ball into them with five around the bat is asking for trouble.
  • Leaning out LBW first ball.
