Gavin Carter

As a club we are at a pretty low point
For many on this site we have been there and seen it all before
Owners have come and gone and we are all cynical about the next regime
Gavin is not only a Charlton fan through and through but has also put his own money where his mouth is and frequently comes over from his home in Canada
He is now on the board as Chairman -a position that gives him a unique opportunity to report to the powers that be.
There have been too many mistakes to mention and I fear yet another season is to be written off
But we have to move on
Gavin is a genuine guy and having met him a few times I hope he can be a bridge from the fans to the money men and hopefully finally move the club forward⚽️

Blimey I still have my concerns about the current regime, don't tell me we have a new lot coming in ?

You've met him a few times & assure us that he is a genuine guy ? He may well be, but some people met southall a few times & thought the same thing. Some hung on every word from the Belgian "solicitor". Actions speak louder than words, I'll wait & see thanks.
Southall was a shister / you know that
Gavin is a fan backed with his own money
How much has it cost him? Do we know?
  • This thread would have been better being addressed to him so he takes notice of the fans feelings & let's the owners know.

Never met the guy but is he someone to put his head above the parapet & tell it like it is or is he a Yes man ?
  • Discussed in an existing thread from page 2 (announcement of his role as non exec chair earlier in December):

I bet he does not pay for his Business Class flights over.

That aside, I think we'll see things change now.

4th highest budget or whatever it is we claim to have is also being consumed by non playing expense I assume is your point.

    You assume wrong.
  • Never met him but from the video interviews I have seen he doesn’t strike me as a rock the boat type of guy, hope I am wrong but wouldn’t surprise me if he is in the SMT’s pocket

I knew that as soon as he opened his mouth, others wanted to shake his hand & have their photos taken with him & even applaud him as he walked past.

Good old Gavin, lets wait & see what he brings to the party now that he is "chairman" (All the way from Canada  :D)

Why on earth would you think he’s in anyone’s pocket ?
Because in the interviews I have seen he seems quiet and compliant, he doesn’t strike me as the sort of guy who will give Charlie, Rodwell and Scott a hard time. As I said I hope I am wrong and he tells the investors what’s going on but I am not holding my breath

He set up and is CEO of a tech business so I doubt he’s averse to saying his piece or getting things done. He has two dogs in the fight. His investment and his genuine support of CAFC. He’s not likely in my opinion to keep Schtum and watch both go down the gurgler. I have no idea what his relationship with any of the SMT is but I’m confident he doesn’t know any of them particularly well or for much longer than his investment timescale. I’m about as despondent as anyone about Charlton at the moment but I think we should at least wait and see before accusing Carter of being a patsy.
    👍
  • I'm told he schleps over at least once every two weeks. (On the last occasion he was in Hong Kong and got a flight over from there.)

I am not accusing him directly of anything and I clearly said “I hope I am wrong”

Just basing my thoughts on small observations

Genuine question but did anyone within the supporter base know Gavin Carter or seen him at a game before he appeared on Twitter defending Sandgaard junior?

Just curious to know how someone who the club puts out as 'lifelong supporter' and yet I have not come across anyone who remembers seeing or going to games with him from years gone by.

Varney, Simmons, Bobe and White were very known/seen as supporters before they officially got involved with the club.
I’ve thought the same since he was first announced.
I expect he was more likely a West Stand home fan, that rarely went away (pure speculation based on the fact not one person have said they recognize him).

I suspect there are lots of people on here who wouldn't be recognised either. If I suddenly became wealthy and bought a stake in the club I think there's a handful of people who would be able to vouch for me. We have a big stadium and take a decent amount away usually, it's easy to stay anonymous
    Exactly.
If you go to lots of away games you’ll be known and if you sit in The Covered End every game as well.

If you rarely go away and sit in the wastelands of The West, you could quite easily not be recognised.
  • Never took a travel booking from him, but each to their own. As I have said before, time will tell.
  • I'd like to think this appointment could prove to be profitable in the next twelve months.

Interested to know your thoughts as to why? I'm hoping the same to be fair.
