Arla milk

edited December 11 in Not Sports Related
Is this the latest conspiracy theory going around? A new additive used for cows to try to lower methane gases but apparently it's being used to cull the population or something nutty. People boycotting the milk and supermarkets etc

"Culling the population" is not why a lot of people are objecting.
They're objecting because it's another hubristic and dumb idea that fucks with the foodchain.
Okay, I had a quick look on X and definitely saw some comments like that. Though perhaps not surprising on there.

Why is it dumb out of interest?

It's another one to add to the growing list of the conspiracy theorists, along with Climate Change is a hoax, Covid is a hoax, 5G masts damage us, anti-vaxxers, jet con trails are cloud seeding and probably that the earth is flat.

  • Is milk from cows fed Bovaer safe for us to drink?

Milk from cows given Bovaer, a feed additive used to reduce methane emissions, is safe to drink. The additive is metabolised by the cows so does not pass into the milk.

Bovaer, a brand name for the additive 3-Nitrooxypropanol or “3-NOP”, has undergone rigorous safety assessments as part of the FSA’s market authorisation process, and is approved for use in Great Britain. It has also been approved for use in other countries including in the EU, Australia, Canada and the US.

If it reduces methane emissions it is fine by me.

Reducing methane emissions is good but it might be a bit better if we just collectively reduced our consumption of cow products and reduced methane emissions AND the apparent need for swathes of rainforest to be cut down and land occupied at an unsustainable scale.
I agree but as that is not easy to achieve, this is something that can help.
