I think we could count REG as an alternative to Coventry/Docherty, but definitely not Edun. If he’s even coming off the bench in that role we are in trouble
Campbell is one of those players that from the first time I saw him I thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt but in my mind I thought “what a load of old shit”
since then I have yet to see anything that makes me think there is a player in there so he joins the ranks of Bonne, Spongfoot Foot, and David Davis in looking shit and continuing to be shit.
The one thing I would say in Campbell's defence is he hasn't really had a run out in the team/formation that is currently playing well. I imagine, a bit like Berry and Doc who were also both looking like big disappointments for a lot of this season, he would look better now. That being said, he has showed very little, other than a pretty good performance vs. Birmingham, and has probably been the least effective of all our summer signings (more so than, even, Ahadme).
I also don't really see where he is needed. Who does he cover in the current setup? I'm not sure he's a full-on holding midfielder like Coventry - Taylor is the most like for like replacement and Doc provides a slightly different option there. Maybe the more box-to box role that Doc has been playing but we also have Karoy who can do that job (I'd far rather we focus on developing him than give Campbell game time) and Taylor can probably cover that to an extent too. He certainly doesn't offer the goal threat that Berry does and if we just want more energy in that role then, again, we have Karoy for that job.
To rebalance the midfield I think getting shot of him and Edun would be the first priority. I'd prefer to keep Taylor, and actually see him on the bench, but I can see some logic in allowing him to leave too. If we then sign an attacking midfielder and another winger then that would put us in a better position in terms of having cover and competition for the shape we have been playing since early December.
He was brought in to play advanced when he's not an advanced midfielder. Docherty is still struggling to adapt to that. Who knows what Campbell is like in his more natural position, but I've got a feeling it's a lot better than we've seen. Still he can't play that role so happy for him to move on quickly.
Been on the bench in the last six games, and played nine minutes vs. Northampton
You've got to think that even Nathan Jones isn't impressed with that much limited game time. I know we've not lost any of them (apart from last night), but to not be involved at all, and so give others a little bit of rest...
If NJ ain't keen surely he can just terminate the loan this month?

Only if there is such a clause in the loan. I thought it was a season long loan. On the flip side it would be prudent from their point of view for Luton to have a recall clause in the case of a permanent transfer.
So about 100 or so new posts over the last few days, still no rumours, just continuing 'chit-chat' about nothing! It's a rumours thread, once again is there any chance we can keep to that?

The majority of recent posts are talking about the Campbell rumour.

I suspect most of us just kept thinking about THE Alan Campbell when he was signed but to give this one credit I thought he was outstanding in the win over Birmingham. For whatever reason I don’t think we’ve seen the player from that day since.

He was and his career suggests he is better than what we have seen overall. It happens sometimes.

I can't bring myself to go through all of this but are we actually linked with anyone?
In regards to Campbell I think he's had one decent game vs Birmingham and that's it!
I wrote on twitter after the Preston game that I genuinely think we need to cut our losses with Gas and try and get a fee for him this window as his re-sale value will plummet come the summer. What's he on a 2 or 3 year deal?

Gas is a 4 year deal.
Has all the markings as being the pound for pound worst signing in our history.

Bolton linked with Terry Taylor.
Allan Campbell linked with a raft of Scottish teams.
We have extended contracts of Reid (keeper) and Laquretabua.
NJ has said we have a near Championship squad already so reinforced the message of a quiet window.
So quite a few "rumour/transfer/signing" related things in the last week. Just nothing particularly exciting.
Rumours threads have always been full of guff and people always get upset about it.
I've never really understood it, as if you just want to read about facts, then any sales/purchases immediately spring their own thread, so just ignore/don't bother with this one (sorry, last bit not aimed at you @agim, just a general observation)

Not even close. This is a club that spent multiple millions of pounds on Djimi Traore.
Is he disappointing, yes. Pound for pound worst EVER? No I'm not having that.

Maybe jones should have been provided with the follow up question “if the squad is near championship quality, why are we mid table”

I would have gas over a sodje and the other guy from Leeds at that sort of time, kandol???
they were both free signings though, and gas cost somewhere between £300k and £7.5bn, depending on which posters you believe

Izale Mcleod will always top my pound for pound worst list. £1m+ and the only things I remember was him winning 2 pens against Norwich that Reid scored and getting retrospectively banned for an elbow away at Northwich.

Berwick Rangers, Lowland League, would suite AC great!
